And shola trees hug the mist-shrouded hillsides, sheltering many endangered species of wildlife. For the more adventurous, there’s the challenge of climbing the 8,841 ft Anaimudi, the highest peak in India south of the Himalaya, which towers majestically over the town. The small rivulets and rolling hills are few ofthe other elements that are not to bemissed while clicking the pictures. And youknow what is the best part? The best part isthat you don't have to even pose a lot forthe pictures here; the sheer beauty of theplace will make up for everything. A littleunfair but true. 

2 Attukal Waterfalls

Past the dense jungles of Munnar, enrouteto Pallivasal, lies the cascading AttukalWaterfalls. The cascading plunge of thewaterfalls can be seen from afar. As you getcloser to the falls you can see the pearlywhite water streaming and flowing down,twisting, turning and shooting past, over andunder massive smooth, glistening bouldersas it makes it journey downstream. 

You can approach the Attukal waterfallsthrough a narrow wooden bridge. Ice cold,the water gushes around in a steadycadence with mist rising and at times theentire region around the waterfall becomesfoggy and translucent. The walk up to thewaterfalls is a treat in itself. Towering hillswrapped in green and blooming withseasonal flowers fill the horizon as far asyou can stretch your gaze. If the water levelis low you can walk up to the rocks andsplash around in the water. Serene andromantic, Attukal waterfalls is also anexcellent site for a spot of trekking.

3 Kannan Devan Tea Museum

On a trip to Munnar? If you are, youcannot not visit the legacy of the grand teaplanting district in Idukki’s high ranges. Visit Kannan Devi Tea Museum, the first teamuseum of the country displaying thegrowth of this century old tea plantationsand industry, which began with a simple tearoller and has grown to the present day fullyautomated tea factory of Madupatty. Theplantation has become one of the majorattractions in Munnar. A visit to the Tea Museum is aninsightful experience. Run by Kanan Devan Hills Plantations now (it’s nota Tata Tea plantation anymore), the TeaMuseum traces the evolution of the teaindustry in Munnar from the 1880s. At theadjacent tea-processing unit, one isintroduced to the stages of tea manufactureand the intricacies of tea tasting.

The memorabilia at the museum includesthe roller from 1905 - taking you back intime. One of the museum's rooms offersviews of the ancient bungalow furniture,magneto phone, cash safe, wooden bathtub,iron oven, etc. Another room houses

antique office equipment like typewritersand EPABS of the 1909 telephone system,which were used in the high ranges. Don'tforget to attend the tea tasting sessionshere.  

4 Lakkam Waterfalls

Lakkam Waterfalls is another of the natural wonder that thebeautiful city of Munnar and itssurroundings have to offer. Located at apoint which is only a 5-minute drive fromthe Munnar-Marayoor road, this spot isperfect for clicking some awesome pictureswith your loved ones. Nestled amidst VagaTrees, this waterfall originates fromEravikulam Plateau and offers a beautifulsight to behold.  

5 Kolukkumalai Tea Estate

Bodinayakanur, Kottagudi, Munnar,Tamil Nadu 625582, India

Located at a distance of 35 kilometres fromMunnar, Kolukkumalai Tea Estate is situatedon the precipitous ridge above the scorchingplains of Tamil Nadu. The highest reputedtea estate, it is around 8000 feet above thesea level. The estate is known for producingexcellent flavorsome teas and is popularworld over for the highest tea production.Tea factory was established in the middle ofthe estate more than 70 years back and itstill uses traditional techniques, that serveas a draw for tea connoisseurs. Thetechnique used is a seven step processwhich involves withering, rolling, sieving,fermenting, drying, fiber extraction andfinally grading. The reputation of the estatecan be gauged from the fact that in 2005, itwon the Southern Tea Competition of theGolden Leaf India Awards. Apart from theexcellent production, it is also known foralluring panoramic views of the ruggedmountains combined with the rejuvenatingfresh breeze. People here lead a simple lifewhich generally revolves around their homeand work.
