One of our key differentiators is that we provide multiple learning pathways which, through various articulation agreements, facilitate the entry of our alumni to local and international higher education institutions. What is articulation? Articulation refers to the process whereby the cred- its achieved in a course offered by an institution are interchangeable with a different course, either offered by another institution or within the same institution. Through this process, the participant en- sures that they do not repeat a module they have al- ready completed and can move through the curric- ulum at a faster pace. Programme mapping, which is largely based on the various learning outcomes, NQF level, credits and assessments of each mod- ule, indicates the potential for articulation. Articulation allows participants, who have success- fully completed accredited programmes/modules, to move between components of the educational delivery system. Articulation may take one of the following forms: • Vertical articulation allows for movement between different components of a learning system or between different NQF levels. • Horizontal articulation allows for movement between different components of a learning system, or from one course to another or from one department/faculty to another i.e. at the same NQF level. USB-ED participants who have successfully com- pleted certain programmes may receive exemp- tion from similar modules in another programme/ qualification. They, may however, be expected to achieve a certain overall percentage in the USB- ED programme and/or may be expected to write a challenge test to prove competence prior to enter- ing the qualification. Does the ability to articulate have an expiry date? Yes, all programmes offered by USB-ED are credit- bearing for up to three years. Who does USB-ED have articulation agreements with? ArticulationFAQ

Your learning journey with USB-ED will guide and inspire you to become a thought and practice lead-er by exposing you to both the academic rigour of Stellenbosch University and the entrepreneurial culture of business.

One of our key differentiators is that we provide multiple learning pathways which, through various articulation agreements, facilitate the entry of our alumni to local and international higher education institutions.

What is articulation?Articulation refers to the process whereby the cred-its achieved in a course offered by an institution are interchangeable with a different course, either offered by another institution or within the same institution. Through this process, the participant en-sures that they do not repeat a module they have al-ready completed and can move through the curric-ulum at a faster pace. Programme mapping, which is largely based on the various learning outcomes, NQF level, credits and assessments of each mod-ule, indicates the potential for articulation.

Articulation allows participants, who have success-fully completed accredited programmes/modules, to move between components of the educational delivery system. Articulation may take one of the following forms:

• Vertical articulation allows for movement between different components of a learning system or between different NQF levels.

• Horizontal articulation allows for movement between different components of a learning system, or from one course to another or from one department/faculty to another i.e. at the same NQF level.

USB-ED participants who have successfully com-pleted certain programmes may receive exemp-tion from similar modules in another programme/qualification. They, may however, be expected to achieve a certain overall percentage in the USB-ED programme and/or may be expected to write a challenge test to prove competence prior to enter-ing the qualification.

Does the ability to articulate have an expiry date?Yes, all programmes offered by USB-ED are credit-bearing for up to three years.

Who does USB-ED have articulation agreements with?USB-ED has entered into articulation agreements with several institutions. These institutions have been carefully selected according to stringent, academic criteria and ease of access through on-line and blended learning. They are:

What is RPL?RPL is the Recognition of Prior Learning for those individuals who do not have a qualification (degree). It is the process of identifying your knowledge and skills against a qualification or part thereof. Completing a USB-ED programme may put you in a position to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). RPL has a dual purpose: on the one hand, social justice; and on the other, access to or ad-vancement through credit accumulation and credit transfer, to opportunities for lifelong learning.

There are two main forms of RPL which reflect the different purposes and the different processes within which RPL takes place:

1. RPL for access: To provide an alternative access route into a programme of learning for those who do not meet the formal entry re-quirements for admission. RPL for access ap-plies to learning programmes offered by an accredited institution of further learning or workplace-based training provider.

2. RPL for credits: To provide for the awarding of credits for, or towards, a qualification or part-qualification registered on the NQF.

In both cases, RPL processes may take place at a diagnostic, formative or summative point, or in-cur-riculum to create opportunities for advanced stand-ing or recognition in the workplace.

When may the potential articula-tion/RPL become effective? For any short course credits earned on a USB-ED management development programme to be effec-tive, the participant must:

1. Successfully complete the USB-ED pro-gramme by means of individual assessments with a pass mark of 50%.

2. Meet the entrance requirements for the qualifi-cation and be successfully selected by the rele-vant institution (Note: a maximum of 10% of students may qualify for RPL)

3. In some cases, participants may be required to complete additional challenge tests (assess-ments) prior to entry into the qualification.
