PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
With two months behind us, we are already
looking at Report Cards and Parent/Teacher
Interviews. Please note that Report Cards will be
going home on Nov. 8 instead of Nov. 9, and that
interviews will occur on Nov. 15 from 3:30-9:00
PM. Our annual Book Fair will occur on Nov. 15
(until 7:00 PM) and Nov. 16 (closes at 4:00 PM).
This is a major fundraiser for our library, and we
very much appreciate your support. (Christmas
presents??)
Thank you to the many parents and students that
attended our Playground Grand Opening and Open
House evening on Oct. 12. Visitors were treated to
a hotdog lunch, student work and art displays, a
Literacy session by Katherine Oviatt from Central
Office, and some delicious samplings of foods
created by our very own Home Ec. classes under
the guidance of Mrs. Gray.
Good luck to all our Jr. and Sr. Volleyball teams as
they battle in the upcoming weeks. Please come
out to cheer them on!
Our Remembrance Day presentation will begin at
10:45 on November 9. Parents and community
members are welcome to attend.
Horizon Schools have a revised procedure in place
regarding High Risk Activities. Once our staff has
had time to deal with this for Muenster School, we
will be sending home Informed Consent forms for
each child. These forms must be completed by
parents and returned to the school.
A reminder that the school will be closed from
Nov. 10 - 13, re-opening on Tuesday, Nov. 14.

GRADE THREE & FOUR NEWS
November in Grade 3/4 is going to be a
busy month! We are going to be focusing
on narrative writing and run-on sentences
for the next few weeks. Guided reading
will be starting up next week. Ask your
child about the book they’re reading with
their group! The Grade 3’s are writing a
math test soon and moving on to a unit on
addition and subtraction. The Grade 4’s
are still making their way through their
number unit… it’s a long one, but so
important! In Social Studies, we are going
to spend the next 2 months talking about
Christmas celebrations from around the
world. If you and your family have any
special cultural traditions, we would love
to hear about them! In Health class, the
students have brainstormed “ok things to
do” when they are angry and have come
up with action plans to use when they
become angry. Have you noticed a
difference??? Ask them about their plan! I
look forward to seeing everyone at
interviews on the 15th!

GRADE FIVE & SIX NEWS
It’s looking like November is going to be a
busy month. In ELA we are working on
making alliterative sentences, making
predictions, (The majority of the class is
predicting Houston to win the world series.)
and writing Remembrance Day poems. We
are becoming multiplication machines as we
multiply many mathematical equations.
(Alliteration!!) In Social we are learning about
other cultures and we’ll be having a food fair
(YUMMY) We have been studying the body
systems in science. Come and check out our
skeletons in the hallway. We are really
excited to start ceramics with Mrs. Varga.
Watch for our cool Christmas projects.
Curling is about to begin and we were pretty
happy to hear that we get to go to a curling
clinic on Nov. 8 and Gr. 6’s get to curl in our
school super league this year. We are sure
Mrs. Lacoursiere can’t wait to write our
report cards (wish we could do it!!) and meet
our parents. We know she has lots of great
things to share with you.

The Kindergarten class had a great
Halloween. We had many superheroes,
princesses, animals, and spooky creatures in our
classroom. We had a lot of fun checking out
different costumes during the costume parade,
playing games, and, of course, enjoying
Halloween treats. Many of us are already
excited about Christmas J
We will be learning more about our classmates
throughout the month of November. “All About
Me” is our theme for the month and our posters
will be on display soon.

FROM THE DESK OF THE SRC…

They help create spirit-- making Muenster school a caring, fun and exciting place to come to
each day. Please make sure we thank them for all their super efforts.

The SRC were off to a busy start again this year. Sept 13, our magazine sales fundraiser began.
We had another successful campaign. The SRC will be donating a large portion of all profits
toward school improvement. Thank-you to everyone who has supported the magazine
campaign.
On Sept 20, 21, 22, five students (Carson Sogge, Kelsey Berscheid, Mykenzie Taphorn,
Elizabeth Glaser, and Madisyn Engele) attended the annual SSLC (Saskatchewan Student
Leadership Conference) in Tisdale. Over 110 towns and cities took part. The theme was
Superheroes. The event was inspiring and lots of fun for both students and advisors.
Terry Fox was very successful again this year. We started the event with a hot dog BBQ. The
weather was just right so we were able to enjoy the walk around town. We raised $285.00 for
the Terry Fox Foundation. Thank-you to our students, parents and members of the
community for supporting this very worthy cause.
Volleyball intramurals will be beginning soon.
Please check the School events calendar for upcoming spirit and SRC activities.

FCC Drive Away Hunger
Thank you to everyone who donated food and money to the FCC Drive Away Hunger campaign
organized by the Muenster SADD chapter. Our attempt to fill the mini-bulk “Shopping” bag was
successful and Muenster School collected just under 678 meals for the Humboldt & District Food
Bank! Congratulations & Thank you!
Grade 2 News
The grade two class has been busy working on our reading and math skills. In math we are learning
about the numbers from 1-100. We are learning to count by 2’s, 5’s and 10’s. In reading, we are practicing
our silent reading every day and reading aloud in reading groups. Recently the class helped me
rearrange our classroom to make a cozy reading corner, which all of the students enjoy. For Hallowe’en
our class had a fun time practicing and performing plays for the class. This month we will be reading and
leaning about Remembrance Day and the reason we wear a poppy.

LIBRARY NEWS
The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to our school this month and we are very excited to offer this
literary event to our students! We invite your entire family to stop in and visit our Book Fair. We
have a wide selection of books and reading material to offer both young and older readers.
By encouraging reading, you open up your child to a world of opportunities. Your support of this
event enables our school to purchase new resources for our library!
Books also make great gifts and stocking stuffers, so get your Christmas shopping done early!
Book Fair Dates & Times
November 15 9:00am – 7:00pm
November 16 9:00am – 4:00pm
Location: Muenster School Library
Please watch for the Book Fair Flyer your child will be bringing home. Have your child cut out the
entry form on the back of the flyer and enter it in the draw box when they attend the Book Fair. This
is their chance to win books for themselves and for the school. No purchase is necessary to enter
this draw.
We look forward to seeing you during the Scholastic Book Fair and thank you in advance for
supporting this very important fundraiser.

SADD Saskatchewan Conference
Heartfelt empathy
The convention room held a solemn silence except for the uncontrolled sobs that
escaped from the audience as auntie to the Van de Vorst children, Tana Deibert,
recounted the events of the crash on highway 11 that took the lives of her sister, brother-
in-law and their two children. Everyone could still recall the news of the tragic event of
this innocent family snuffed from life by an impaired driver. A heart wrenching story that
should not have been told except that one person made that very unwise decision to get
behind the wheel after consuming alcohol.
This was ‘hit the heart message’ the seven SADD members heard repeatedly at this year’s
SADD convention held in Saskatoon on October 19-20. Every year there are new stories
from victims that feel a strong need to speak out and share their message in the hopes of
making a difference to a driver that may leave someone else in a similar situation
because of their one bad choice of distracted or impaired driving. The sad part is these
stories come from only a handful of the hundreds of people affected by an impaired
driver each year on our roadways. Of all the provinces, Saskatchewan continues to have
the highest rate of incidents of impaired driving.
PLEASE BE RESPONSIBLE – PUT THE PHONE DOWN WHEN DRIVING AND ALWAYS HAVE
A PLAN FOR A SAFE RIDE HOME WHEN INDULGING IN IMPAIRING ACTIVITIES (drinking
alcohol or taking drugs, including some prescription medications)

JR. GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
It has been a great experience working with and getting to know all the girls on the team this year.
They worked very hard at learning a new rotation, moving our feet, and having fun. We went to 2
tournaments, one in Wadena and one in Watson. In both tournaments, we made it into the playoff
rounds. The girls had a very positive attitude and I can’t wait to work with them again next year.
Special thanks to Jenay Varga, Mykenzie Taphorn, and Shelby Engele, for helping us develop our
skills and cheering us on. We head to pre-districts in Wakaw on November 2.

Muenster Summer Fun Camp
Muenster Summer Fun Camp is looking for interested individuals to join our 2018 executive. The
mandate of Muenster Summer Fun Camp is to provide safe, educational and affordable childcare
for rural working families. The Muenster Summer Fun Camp is looking ahead to its sixth year of
operation. Our camp accommodates on average 40 campers per year ranging in age from five to
twelve years old. In the summer of 2017 our organization employed 18 local students. We not only
focus on safe and engaging activities for our campers but we also strive to teach leadership skills
within camp volunteers and leaders in paid positions. Assistance from executive members
typically occurs in May and June. If you are a parent of a camper, a community member that
enjoys working with youth or just interested in finding out more about the Muenster Summer Fun
Camp, please forward your name and contact information to [email protected] . Thankyou
