Elementary Online Report Cards

The purpose of the Elementary Online Report Cards document is to assist you with

accessing and completing the online report cards for your students.

Step 1: Log into the K-5 Online Report Cards Site

Open an internet window and go to www.gcsnc.com. Click on the Schools tab then on the link

for GCS K-5 Report Cards which is found in the list to the left:

If the link is not available, you can type in the internet

address: sia.gcsnc.com (note that there is no www.).

2

Log in using your GCS user name and password (the same way you log into your school

computer each day).

Choose K-2 Report Cards or 3-5 Report Cards. If you teach a combination second- and third-

grade class, you will complete report cards in both sites. Only your second-grade students will

appear when you are working on K-2 Report Cards. Only your third-grade students will appear

when you are working on 3-5 Report Cards.

3

Report cards for K-2 students will include an accompanying page for comments. Teachers also

have a link to the Grade Level Expectations documents, which they should print for each

student, at least for the first quarter. The Expectations are available in English and Spanish.

Your name and school will appear above a roster of your students. The Grading Scale will

appear on the printed report card, as will absences and tardies. We no longer report days present.

4

Step 2: Enter Report Card Information

Choose the quarter you want. Select the first student by clicking on the name. The report card

fields will appear on the right side of the screen. The example below is a fourth grade report

card.

Check any necessary fields to indicate a student receiving services as academically gifted, a

student with limited English proficiency or an Exceptional Child. Teachers of students in grade

3-5: Enter letter grades for subjects and check boxes when prompted to indicate a student’s

performance based on grade level. Teachers of students in grades K-2: enter 1, 2, 3, 4 or S, I,

N, U in each field, as appropriate. See the chart at the end of this document for score options.

You may use your tab key to move from field to field, or you may place the cursor in each field

using your mouse. Please note that the conference date field must use this format:

MM/DD/YYYY.

You are not required to complete all fields at once. You may complete portions of the report

cards, save, and return later. Fields are restricted to appropriate characters. If you use an

invalid character, when you attempt to save, you will get an error message and the invalid

character will turn red. Correct it and save again.

Continue entering scores for enrichment subjects, conduct and work habits, etc.

For K-2 teachers, the Physical Development fields will only print on kindergarten report cards.

End of Year fields will only be used in the fourth quarter. The Comments box and Conference

field are available for all quarters. Keep comments to no more than 330 characters, please.

5

When you have completed a student’s report card, check the Report Card Complete? box and

click on Save. If you wish to start over with a student’s report card, click on Clear then Save to

remove grades, codes, checks and comments.

Once a report card is complete, you may select it to print by putting a check in the Print box to

the right of the student’s name and clicking the Print Selected button. Report cards can be

printed individually or several at a time. If you also need a copy in Spanish, put a check in that

box, Save, and follow the steps for printing.

You will be taken to an option screen where you must export to PDF in order to print or save:

Choose PDF from the drop-

down, then click Export.

6

You will be prompted to chose Open, Save or Cancel. Choose Open.

When the report opens, you may click on File to save it as a document or to print. Please

remember that PDF documents cannot be password-protected and should never be sent as

an e-mail attachment.

When you are finished, close the report by clicking on the X in the upper right-hand corner. You

may then use the “back” arrow to return to the class roster screen and log out.
