GNAC MEN’S SOCCER ALL-TIME PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

PLAYER OF THE WEEK SELECTIONS 2001 Week of Aug. 20-26: Goalkeeper Jeff Wallace, Humboldt State (6-1, 170, Jr., Vallejo, CA), starting in the place of the injured Colin Garon, had nine saves, including seven in the second half, as the Lumberjacks outlasted San Francisco State 2-1, despite playing one man short over the final 26 minutes. Week of Aug. 27-Sept. 2: Joe Watson, Seattle (F, 5-8, 160, Jr., Auburn, WA - Auburn Riverside) and Cody Hagler, Western Washington (F, 6-2, 190, So., Canby, OR - Portland). . .Watson recorded three goals and an assist as the Redhawks won three of four games with CCAA opponents, including a 2-1 overtime win over previously unbeaten Sonoma State Sunday. Hagler had a pair of game-winning goals as the Vikings defeated UC San Diego 1-0 and previously unbeaten Chico State 2-1 in overtime. He also scored twice in a 5-2 loss to Grand Canyon last Monday. Week of Sept. 3-9: Ian Chursky, Seattle (Forward, 5-10, Jr., Federal Way, WA - Decatur & Tacoma CC) and Michael Schefter, Seattle Pacific (Midfielder, 6-0, So., Yakima, WA - West Valley). . .Chursky scored twice, including the game-tying and game-winning goals, in a 3-1 non-conference win over Western Washington. . .Schefter scored three goals in a pair of road wins over Cal Poly Pomona and UC San Diego. Week of Sept. 10-16: Eduardo "Lalo" Serrano, Humboldt State (Forward, 6-1, Jr., Toluca, Mexico) scored three goals, including two in a 3-0 shutout of Dominican and the game-winning goal on a penalty kick in a 2-1 conquest of Fresno Pacific. Week of Sept. 17-23: David Smith, Seattle Pacific (Forward, 6-3, Fr., Corvallis, OR), playing in his first games of the season after recovering from a pulled hamstring, scored the game-winning goals in victories over Sonoma State and UC Davis as the Falcons extended their winning streak to four games. Week of Sept. 24-30: Grant Falco, Seattle Pacific (Forward, 5-9, Jr., Veradale, WA - University) and Brandon Sewell, Seattle (GK, 6-1, So., Federal Way, WA - Decatur). . .Falco scored two goals and also had two assists as the Falcons extended their winning streak to six with a pair of victories. In SPU's 3-2 win against San Francisco State, he set up one goal and then beat two defenders and hit the game-winner from a difficult angle along the end line. He then notched another goal and an assist in the Falcons' 6-0 conference win over Northwest Nazarene. . .Sewell had seven saves and turned away numerous crosses in the box to record his second shutout of the season in a 1-0 win over California State-Bakersfield. "Brandon made several-what I call-goal-saving saves, and when you only have a 1-0 lead, that is huge," said SU head coach Peter Fewing. "He read the game very well, came off his line extremely well and distributed the ball well." Week of Oct. 1-7: Joe Watson, Seattle (Forward, 5-8, Jr., Auburn - Auburn Riverside) scored one goal and assisted on the other as the Redhawks defeated Seattle Pacific 2-1 for their first victory on SPU's home field in 23 years. Watson is currently tied for the GNAC scoring lead with Eduardo Serrano of Humboldt State. Both players are averaging 1.50 points per game. In 10 contests, Watson has scored five goals and also has five assists.

Week of Oct. 8-14: Trevor Stoneberg, Northwest Nazarene (Forward, 5-9, Sr., Meridian, ID) scored in overtime as the Crusaders ended a four-game losing streak with a 3-2 win over Northwest Nazarene Friday. He also scored two goals in a 5-1 win over Evergreen State on Saturday. Week of Oct. 15-21: James Ward, Seattle Pacific (Forward, 6-0, Fr., Salem, OR) came out of the net to rally the Falcons to a win and a tie in a tournament at Incarnate Word, Tex. In the two contests, Ward scored three goals, including the game-winning goal in a 3-2 win over St. Edwards, and the tying goal in a 3-3 draw with Incarnate Word. He also had two assists. Week of Oct. 22-28: Danny Ferris, Seattle (F, 6-1, Sr., Yakima - Eisenhower) scored two goals in a 4-1 win over Western Washington and added two more in a 6-0 victory over Humboldt State as the Redhawks clinched at least a tie for the GNAC title with a pair of victories. Ferris has scored at least one goal in four consecutive games. Week of Oct. 29-Nov. 4: Eduardo "Lalo" Serrano, Humboldt State (Forward, 6-1, Jr., Toluca, Mexico) scored twice, including the game-winner in the 27th minute of overtime as the Lumberjacks rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Seattle 3-2 in a non-conference game. A week earlier, the Redhawks had beaten HSU 6-0. Serrano currently leads the GNAC in goals (11) and points (25). 2002 Week of Aug. 26-Sept. 1: Bobby McAlister, Seattle (Forward, 5-9, So., Federal Way - Decatur), a transfer from UW, was selected the Most Valuable Player in the Roadrunner Soccer Classic at Bakersfield. McAlister scored three goals in a 4-0 win over Cal State Bakersfield to earn the Redhawks a split in their two games. "He's a great finisher and knows how to find the back of the net," SU coach Peter Fewing said. "What I was most impressed with was his work ethic off the ball.
