Welcome to MAIN ST.!Presented by Coors Light and produced by Downtown Fort Worth Initiatives, Inc., this fabulous festival spans a full nine blocks from the Tarrant County Courthouse to the Fort Worth Convention Center. During the four days of the show, we’ll spotlight 200+ artists, present 300+ performances and serve up thousands of plates of delicious food. This handy guide can help you choose from the big variety of art and entertainment. If you’re not an art and music lover when you arrive, you’re certain to be one by the time you depart! All along, the mission of the MAIN ST. Fort Worth Arts Festival has been to showcase Downtown Fort Worth. The festival began in 1986 as the vision of Robert Bass, and it has transformed over the years into an American master-piece. Downtown Fort Worth continues to transform, too, as you can see by the new Sundance Square Plaza. This past fall, two new office buildings and a beautiful plaza opened, creating a fabulous centerpiece for Downtown Fort Worth. The rest of Downtown continues to evolve as well, with a vibrant mix of hotels, clubs, restaurants and attractions. These new additions are certain to stir more excitement in Fort Worth, which has been ranked #1 of the 10 Best Downtowns in the U.S. by Livability.com!

Experience the JFK Tribute.The day President John F. Kennedy died, he spoke to an adoring crowd in Fort Worth outside the Hotel Texas (now the Hilton Fort Worth). To com-memorate this historic event and honor the legacy of JFK, a public-private partnership completed a permanent exhibit in 2012. The JFK Tribute – located in General Worth Square at the southeast corner of Main and 8th Streets – features a heroic bronze sculpture, an elegant granite plaza, and stirring photographs and quotations. While you’re at the festival, be sure to spend a few minutes to experience this inspiring tribute.

DFWII: The Producer of MAIN ST.The organization behind the festival is Downtown Fort Worth Initiatives, Inc. (DFWII), which oversees many charitable, educa-tional and public-purpose activities Downtown. DFWII uses the funding from MAIN ST. to continually raise the quality of the event and improve Fort Worth’s Downtown. The organization also pro-duces the XTO Energy Parade of Lights.

DFWII is associated with Downtown Fort Worth, Inc., (DFWI) a private, non-profit organization that serves as an advocate for everyone who lives, works and plays Downtown. DFWI manages the Fort Worth Public Improvement District #1 (PID), which pro-vides maintenance and landscaping, promotions and marketing, security enhancement, transportation and planning for the center city. DFWI also oversees the Downtown Tax Increment Financing District (TIF), which is designed to attract investment, support tourism and convention business, spur development and fund public improvements. The TIF also underwrites the free parking program Downtown.

Nice Things to KnowFESTIVAL SCHEDULEFood and beverage coupon sales end 30 minutes before the close of the festival each evening. The MAIN ST. Creates! area closes at approximately 9:00 p.m. each evening except Sunday, when it closes at 7:00 p.m. The exhibiting artists are allowed to close at 8 p.m. (6 p.m. on Sunday), but many of the artists choose to stay open much later to participate in the evening’s festivities. A tip for art shoppers: seek out these “night owls” and enjoy the opportunity to spend more quality time with them.

FOOD, BEVERAGE AND ACTIVITY COUPONSAll food and beverage purchases are by coupon only. Coupons are also necessary to participate in many of the activities at MAIN ST. Creates! (although several activities are free). Coupons are available at the coupon booths located conveniently throughout the festival grounds. All booths accept American Express, MasterCard and Visa.

A strip of 10 coupons is $10, and individual coupons cost $1. If you need cash, ATM machines are located throughout the festi-val. Food and beverage coupon sales end 30 minutes before the close of the festival each evening.

Sorry, there are no refunds. DFWII is a charita-ble organization, and unused tickets may be considered a donation to help us continue to make Downtown a great place to live, work and play.

Artist SpotlightTom Diel, 2013 Best of Show Winner

Trained as an industrial designer, Tom layers materials as a painter uses colors. He has adopted the term ‘industrial chic’ to define his aesthetic and approach to mak-ing functional art furniture. “I try to use the most appropriate material for the given situation. Having the early desire to work in many medias has led me down a life- long journey to get to this point and I am loving the process.” He is open to taking commissions for he finds working with others leads to better design solutions. Be sure to visit booth 431 and to see Tom’s latest creations.

During the festival, the red bricks and side streets of Main Street become a pathway to magical artistic experiences. Take the journey from the Tarrant County Courthouse to the Fort Worth Convention Center – and back again – to discover an enormous variety of artworks, from sculpture to painting, from the dramatic to the whimsical. The art is truly the “heart and soul” of the festival. Be sure to explore the side streets for even more activities.

This a juried art fair, which means that artists must submit their work to a jury of experts before exhibiting. Of the 1400 artists that applied to exhibit at this year’s festival, only 213 were chosen for exhibition. Mediums range from sculpture, painting and photography

to woodcarving, glasswork, jewelry, fashion and multimedia. We owe a big thanks to the 2014 Artist Selection Jury: David Conn, Judy Shelton, Gregory Story, Michael Wommack and Adele Krause.

On the first day of the show, another jury will select the best of the 2014 Exhibiting Artists, so look for the booths displaying prize banners. MAIN ST. will award more than $10,000 in prize money to artists this year.

On 3rd and 4th Streets, be sure to visit the Emerging Artists who are just start-ing their careers. You can support a budding artist while adding a beautiful object to your art collection.

Chinese Acrobats of Hebei. Acrobats of Hebei China are masters of agility and grace combining Chinese traditions, incredi-ble acrobatics, stunning costumes, Chinese props, and a beautiful music soundtrack.

Ballet Folklorico Azteca. BFA promotes Mexican heri-tage and multicultural understanding to youth and adults, preserving traditions and instilling pride.

Ballet Folklorico de Fort Worth. The BFFW encour-ages appreciation of the Mexican culture by teaching its traditional dance and music to people of all ages.

Alex Zerbe The Zaniac. Alex is a two-time Guinness World Record holder who was voted Seattle’s Funniest Prop Comic. He has appeared on prime-time television in three countries including the hit shows, “America’s Got Talent!” and “Last Comic Standing.” Alex is a Hacky Sack World Champion, and half of the award-winning comedy act, Brothers from Different Mothers. When Jamie Lee Curtis saw his one-man show she said, “Boy are you talented, FANTASTIC!”

John Park. Comedy, comedy, comedy. But John Park is no joke-telling stand-up comic. Instead, this performer uses clever juggling and visually engaging comedy routines set to music to make his audience laugh. The crowd is with John all the way, as volunteers take part and challenge John laugh for laugh for the comedic spotlight.

Dave Alexander s5:30 p.m. | Sundance Square StageAlexander is recognized as having created the finest Western Big Band ever assembled to deliver his overwhelming performances. These great musicians, combined with his incompa-rable horn section, make up the finest musical ensemble on the road today.

2014 Commemorative PosterDaniel Ng, from Portland, Oregon, was selected to create this year’s beautiful commemorative poster, “Main Street Starry Night,” a colorful and dramatic perspective of Downtown from Sundance Square Plaza to the Courthouse.

Daniel paints with imagination but not from imagination. Each landscape painting is inspired from an actual place. He creates composition in a simplified form with designs of shapes and patterns found in the nature world. Daniel is definitely a colorist. With a drybrush technique, he applies acrylic paints in layers to develop bold vivid colors to bring out eye-catching contrast in his designs. It is his own whimsical interpretation of each individual scene that sets his paintings apart from typical landscape painting. Daniel is located in Booth 452.

Growing Young ArtistsThis successful outreach program brings the talents of MAIN ST. artists and the opportunities of the festival to elementary, middle and high school students in school districts around Fort Worth. This program has two compo-nents, each supported by a grant from Tarrant County College:

Artist-in-Residence Program. Several of our 2014 MAIN ST. artists will visit area schools to show their work and give insights to students about a career in visual art. Selected students will visit MAIN ST. and get a “behind the scenes” look at the operations of a major arts festival.

Young People’s Art Fair. Support the next generation of artists! The Young People’s Art Fair – located in the “MAIN ST. Creates!” area – features the work of more than 300 young artists from the Fort Worth community. The fair will be held on Saturday and Sunday, April 12 and 13, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Children must be accompanied by a parent at all times during the show. Last year, these young artists sold more than $10,000 worth of art!

Our Favorite Color: GREENMAIN ST. Environmental Efforts “Go Green” Initiative. We’re working hard to reduce our carbon footprint through partnerships with the Tarrant Regional Water District, Green Mountain Energy, Waste Management, Inc. and Bicycles, Inc. In 2013, we recycled over 75% of the bottles and cans left behind at the festival. To reduce our use of public landfills, we use biodegradable plates, cups and eating utensils. Festival staff also recycles 100% of the oil and grease used to prepare the food.

Artists Are Going Green, Too! MAIN ST. salutes those artists who use earth- friendly techniques, materials or themes in their work.

Park Your Bike for Free! The Bicycle Corral, sponsored by the Fort Worth Bicycling Association and Bicycles, Inc., is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily on 7th Street at Houston Street (note new location). The corral will include secu-rity fencing, bike racks for storage and an ID system to avoid theft. With more than 480 miles of bike paths either completed or planned, Fort Worth is cycle friendly!

Fort Worth B-cycle - 14 Stations Near Downtown!Avoid the hassle of parking and ride B-cycle to MAIN ST.! There are 14 bike-sharing stations conveniently located within walking distance of the festival. There’s no better time to try out Fort Worth B-cycle, the first bike sharing system in North Texas. You can also ride bike share from the T&P or Intermodal Transportation Center straight to the heart of Main Street. Use promo code 76102 at any station to receive half-price, $4 access to the system each day of the festival.

Take the Trinity Railway Express (TRE). To better accommodate demand, ex-tra cars will be added during all four days of the festival. The TRE station, lo-cated at the Intermodal Transportation Center (ITC) at Jones and 9th Streets, is only two blocks from the Arts Festival.

TRE Festival Schedule: • Thursday April 10th - Last eastbound train departs ITC station at 9:46 p.m.• Friday and Saturday, April 11 and 12 - Last eastbound train departs ITC station at 11:35 p.m. and will go all the way to Union Station. Note: this train will NOT connect with any DART Rail Service at Union Station.• Sunday, April 13 - The TRE will run a special schedule to and from Dallas all day.

The shuttle for a buck will operate every 20 minutes from 5 to 11 p.m. on Friday, and 9:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday. Look for the SPE-CIALLY MARKED free parking areas at Billy Bob’s Texas in the Fort Worth Stock-yards, and at Farrington Field.
