The Ramon C. Cortines School for Visual & Performing Arts offers the highest caliber of

Advisory is designed to give each student a mentor and a peer group to relate to.
Advisory takes place every Wednesday after Period 8.
Students will be assigned to grade alike groups within their academy, with a teacher that they will stay with for the duration of their time at Grand Arts.
Topics- Academic, Social and Academy activities.
Warning Bell Mon.- Fri. at 7:50 am. School begins at 8:00 am each morning.
Mondays (1-8), Tuesdays & Thursdays (1-4) and Wednesdays & Fridays (5-8). We will have Advisory every Wednesday for 39 minutes.
Dismissal will be at 3:20 pm every day except Tuesdays (2:35 pm).
It is California Ed Code, and the law, that students are in school each day for the duration of the school day.
Students must be present to benefit from instruction and learn the curriculum successfully.
Students must be absent/tardy no more than 7 days for the entire year.
When absent or tardy, students must bring a signed note from their parent or guardian stating the student’s name, date of birth, grade, and reason for the absence/tardy.
Students with excessive absences/tardies will be required to attend campus beautification to recover their time.
Grand Arts is a closed campus. Students are to remain on campus the
whole day. Students will not be allowed to leave for
lunch or any time without 24 hour prior arrangement by a parent or guardian.
Any non-student entering the campus is to go through the main office for a visitor’s pass.
Students are to have a 3 ring binder with paper and dividers.
Students must have several pencils and black or blue pens.
Each teacher may have specific supplies required for their class. Students will be notified in the first few days of class.
Please make sure your child comes to school August 12th with supplies.
There is only one driveway and it will get very crowded each morning.
You may wish to choose a drop off and pick up location a block away to keep out of the traffic.
If you choose to use the front of the school, please follow the traffic flow arrows and do not stop for very long.
Please be patient and watch for students exiting cars.
A student may not dress in a manner that creates a safety hazard or that detracts from the learning process.
The following items are not permitted on campus:Hairnets, Baseball style hats with logos,
hoods, wave caps, dew rags.Dresses and shorts higher than mid-thigh.Spaghetti straps & tank tops. Low cut tops or tops that expose the back or
midriff (any area of the stomach).
Clothing or accessories that advertises or otherwise promotes alcohol, tobacco, drugs.
Platform shoes higher than 3 inches.Clothing or accessories that identify a student
with non-school clubs. (including but not limited to gang or prison culture by name, insignia, and/or color)
Sandals or open-toed shoes.Attire with holes above the knee that expose
the body or undergarments.
Food shall only be eaten in designated areas. Food is to stay in the cafeteria and table area in the quad.
Any student having in their possession tobacco, alcohol, drugs, or any illegal substance will be suspended and subject to arrest.
Smoking is prohibited on or near campus at all school events.
Skateboard, roller-skate, and bicycle use is not permitted on campus. Skateboards are to be checked in each morning at the Academy office. Bicycles are to be walked to the bike rack, located next to the gym, each morning.
Physical attacks will result in suspension, expulsion, and/or arrest.
Profanity or vulgarity will not be tolerated. It may result in suspension.
Students involved in fighting will be suspended and may be transferred.
Harassment/Bullying of any kind, including cyber media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc), intimidation, and/or extortion will result in suspension and/or arrest.
A SINGLE SEVERE INCIDENT OR REPEATED INCIDENTS WILL RESULT IN CANCELLATION OF ENROLLLMENT!!!
LOS ANGELES UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT POLICY BULLETIN TITLE: Restitution Procedures for the Loss or Damage of School Property

POLICY: A student’s parent or guardian is liable for any Los Angeles Unified School District (District) property that student loses or damages. After due process, a student’s grades, diploma, and transcripts can be withheld until the student or parent/guardian pays for the lost or damaged property. California Education Code section 48904 states that the parent or guardian of a minor is liable to a school district for all property loaned to and failed to be returned, or willfully damaged by a minor.
The liability shall not exceed $10,000. In
addition, it authorizes school districts, after affording the student due process rights, to withhold the grades, diploma, and transcripts of a student until the student or parent/guardian pays for the lost or damaged school property, e.g., textbooks, library books, graffiti, computers, desks, lockers, physical education clothes, and sports equipment, etc. It also provides for a program of voluntary work for the minor in lieu of the payment of monetary damages.
Students who bring cell phones to school, do so at their own risk.
Note: Grand Arts is not responsible for lost or stolen cell phones. Cell phone use is prohibited during the hours of 7:50 am to 3:12 pm by order of the LAUSD Board of Education. Electronic devices of any type whose use creates a disturbance to the learning process are prohibited and will be confiscated. Only a parent will be allowed to retrieve them.
Loitering or creating a disturbance in the hall will not be tolerated and may result in suspension.
Students out of class must have a hall pass at all times from their assigned teacher. Any student that is found outside of their assigned classroom without a pass will be considered truant.
Students who damage, deface, or steal school or private property shall be liable for costs of repairs and replacement
and enrollment at Cortines will be cancelled. Students are to be in their assigned classrooms before the
tardy bell rings. Students who are tardy in the morning or at any time during the school day, must report to the Main Office. Students will not be allowed in class without a white or blue tardy pass

All students are to fill out a new lunch application for this school year. All students must complete an application and receive a pin number to eat.
Vending machines sell water for $1.25, snacks and other drinks are sold in the Student Store.
The parking structure is for staff and students who qualify.
Staff and students are to park in designated areas. No one is to park in the visitor spots in front of the school or in any service drive.
Visitors are to park in front of the school. The parking structure will be closed each
day by 8:15 am.
I understand that my school locker is the property of the Los Angeles Unified School District and that I must obey the following rules to keep this privilege:
1. Materials or liquids that might cause a fire must not be placed in the locker. Also, liquids can spill
and ruin materials in the lockers below yours. 2. Other articles also must not be kept in the
locker, if it is against the law or school board policy to store them there.
3. The things stored in the locker must be kept in a clean and orderly condition.
4. Items of a very personal nature may be kept in the locker if I first obtain permission from an Assistant Principal.
5. Things belonging to another person must not be kept in the locker.
6. A school administrator may inspect the contents of the locker when there is a good reason to do so.
7. If things are found in the locker that are prohibited by law or school board policy, the administrator may remove them for safekeeping or investigation.
8. DO NOT GIVE YOUR COMBINATION TO ANYONE!!!
Parents are responsible for seeing that students are dressed properly, have supplies for school, and arrive on time daily.
School personnel are responsible for maintaining and enforcing an appropriate learning environment.
Students are responsible for understanding the consequences of not following the Student Code of conduct.
