Please review all of its contents and return the courier on Friday.· Please label all coats, lunchboxes, bookbags, sweaters, etc.· Conferences will take place a minimum of 2 times throughout the year. SnacksSnacks• Please mark your snack week in your calendar
so you won’t forget (even if I do!). When you receive the blue snack bin on Friday, fill it and bring it back on Monday. Remember, we have 21 students and usually 5 days of snack.
• Bring it in daily or all at once. The choice of snacks are up to you. We prefer nutritious and individually wrapped! You can even bring in refrigerated items, such as cheese, yogurt, or fruit.
• For birthday treats, please arrange with the teacher to meet us outside or at the cafeteria. Fernbank policy mandates no balloons and no candles.

Reading at HomeReading at Home Research shows that good readers are more successful at school. Reading is used in all other subjects and is critical for success in real life. It is important for your child to develop a solid reading base that
extends beyond phonics into other areas.
• Be a good reading role model. Be sure your child sees you reading often.• Make reading a reward. Use books and reading time as a reward for good behavior,
school improvement, etc.• Take your child to the library to check out books regularly and to attend programs,
such as story time, puppet shows, etc.• Help your child build a home library. An amazing feeling comes with owning books.
Create a special bookshelf and let your child earn book money by doing chores or saving allowance.
• Have a weekly or nightly “Family Reading Time.” Turn off televisions, computers, and phones, and read. Read a book together, or read independently and share what you are reading about.
• Discuss what your child is reading. Ask “thinking questions,” such as, “What do you think will happen next? Why do you think the character did that? How would you feel if you were the character? If you could change anything about the story, what would it be? What’s happened so far? What do you like most/least about the story?”
• Read sections of the newspaper together. Discuss the articles.• Purchase or borrow books on tape. Have your child listen to the story and follow
along with the text.

MathematicsMathematics • Literature involving math, games, and hands-on
activities will assist students in using math in various ways for understanding.
• Compacting Math ProgramStudents excel at different math skills. Therefore, we will be pre-assessing the students about every 6 weeks. Students may have a different math teacher every 6 weeks. The 2nd Grade math team consists of the following teachers:

Assignments• Homework: Homework will be
graded for completion and effort since I am unable to know the amount of assistance provided. Please check your child’s homework for accuracy. It is the student’s responsibility to turn in their work. Late work is accepted with deductions.
• Tests: Tests will usually be on Fridays to end the weeks’ units. However, tests could be administered on any day depending on a unit’s length or scheduled holidays.
• Daily Folder and Agenda: We are practicing to write homework assignments and important dates in the agenda to learn to be organized and responsible.
