Mrs. Diego’s 3rd Grade Class
Due at the start of school
Third Grade Summer Newsletter Dear Future Third Graders, I am looking forward to working with all of you this coming school year! The summer
packet is due at the start of school as we will go over these third-grade skills in class. Please
have your child read over the summer! They will take their first ‘Accelerated Reader’ Quiz on a
chapter book they read. The supply list is attached to this packet as well. You may bring the
supplies when school starts.
Here are more skills for you to practice during the summer to improve your success in third
grade.
Math: • Practice your math fluency!
• Being able to add and subtract quickly with single and double-digit numbers – to include
borrowing and regrouping.
• Multiplication is a large part of third grade. You will be tested on facts up to 12 x 12
throughout the year. You can start to memorize them as soon as possible!
• Being able to tell time on an analog clock (hour, half hour, and quarter)
Reading and Writing: • Please read, read, read! The more you read, the more your reading level improves!
• Be prepared to take your first Accelerated Reading (AR) quiz on one novel (a chapter book) you read during the summer!
• Keep a journal, diary, or write letters to a friend can improve your writing skills as well.
Family
• Try to make spending time with your family a goal! Limit screen time over the summer
and enjoy other activities.
Please let me know how I can help you and feel free to email me. I hope you have a great
summer and I will see you in August!
Blessings, Mrs. Diego 3rd Grade [email protected]

I found 27 seashells on the beach. My sister found 34 seashells. How many seashells did we find in all?
The girls swam for 45 minutes on Monday. On Tuesday, they swam 15 more minutes than they did on Monday. How many minutes did the girls swim on
Tuesday?
42 crabs swam into the ocean. 23 crabs stayed on the shore. How many more crabs swam into the
ocean than stayed on the shore?
The sunset is in 45 minutes. It is 7:15 now. What time will the sun set?
