Final Exam Part II Name_____________________________ In Mr. Mertson’s imaginary college math class tests are given once a week. Last week he gave an exciting test on partial derivatives of quadratic functions. The test had 40 questions and students could earn 100 points maximum. Mr. Mertson grades everyone on the normal curve. The students and their raw scores are listed in the Excel spreadsheet Final Exam Part 1.xlsx posted on www.mertsonmath.weebly.com . As Mr. Mertson’s teaching assistant, you are required to determine student’s grades and report the results of the test to Mr. Mertson. Here is the information that Mr. Mertson is looking for: 1. The mean. 2. The standard deviation. 3. A graph that shows the distribution of the scores. 4. A table that shows the conversion from raw score to a letter grade using Mr. Mertson’s conversion chart. 5. Determine the letter grades for the highlighted students. 6. A short recommendation to Mr. Mertson whether he should re-teach the material or start a new topic. Base your recommendation on the data. Compile this information into a nice looking report and send it to Mr. Mertson [email protected] Helpful Information: 1. The mean. Use the Excel formula: = Average( 2. The standard deviation: Use the Excel formula: = Stdev.P( 3. A graph that shows the distribution of the scores: Use the intervals that are listed in the spreadsheet. Sort the data – highlight the name and score, then go to DATA – Sort – Sort by –

Final Exam Part IIName_____________________________

In Mr. Mertson’s imaginary college math class tests are given once a week. Last week he gave an exciting test on partial derivatives of quadratic functions. The test had 40 questions and students could earn 100 points maximum. Mr. Mertson grades everyone on the normal curve.

The students and their raw scores are listed in the Excel spreadsheet Final Exam Part 1.xlsx posted on www.mertsonmath.weebly.com.

As Mr. Mertson’s teaching assistant, you are required to determine student’s grades and report the results of the test to Mr. Mertson.

Here is the information that Mr. Mertson is looking for:

1. The mean.

Mertson [email protected]

Helpful Information:

1. The mean. Use the Excel formula:= Average(

2. The standard deviation: Use the Excel formula: = Stdev.P(

3. A graph that shows the distribution of the scores: Use the intervals that are listed in the spreadsheet. Sort the data – highlight the name and score, then go to DATA – Sort – Sort by – click down arrow – choose “Column B.” See screenshot on next page. Make a bar graph, but then go to “Quick Layout” on the ribbon and select the histogram layout #8.

4. A table that shows the conversion from raw score to a letter grade using Mr. Mertson’s conversion chart. Determine range of raw scores for each letter grade. Copy and paste the table on the next page into your report.

5. Determine the letter grades for the highlighted students.

6. A short recommendation to Mr. Mertson whether he should re-teach the material or start a new topic. Base your recommendation on the data. This doesn’t have to be any longer than a few sentences but must be based on the data.
