Starting Class:

• You can talk until the bell rings. Then you need to be silent until I start a discussion.• Hang up your coat if you have one.• Turn in any work in the box marked for your class.• Go to your desk and start your journal (journal topic is written on the white board).• Read the white board for any additional instructions.• If your table is the ‘STAR table’ – pass out any returned work to your classmates.• If Mr. Glad, or a substitute teacher calls roll, raise your hand and say “HERE.”

Journals:

• Your journal topic/prompt will be on the board.

• You need to write in COMPLETE sentences.• Write every day. Turn in ONE WEEK’s worth of journal entries on FRIDAY (or last day of the week).• Write on regular 8 1/2 by 10 inch lined paper.• Even if you are ABSENT you are responsible for that day’s journal entry. When you get back, ask a classmate or me what the topics were for the day/days you missed.• Save your journal entries in your binder.

Ending Class:

• If we have books to return to the shelves, we will do so by table – and in the order they belong (1-36) on the shelf. After you put away your book, go back to your seat. • You may turn in your assignments in the turn-in box either before the bell rings – then return to your seat; or as you are leaving AFTER the bell rings.• Remain in your seats until the bell rings.• If anyone is out of their seat when the bell rings, we will all wait to leave the classroom until everyone is seated.

Assignments:

• Turn in your assignments when they are due. • After three days past the due date, your assignment is marked “Missing.” You can still turn it in, but it is only worth 50% credit (which is better than 0% credit).• ALL of your assignments will be posted on my web page for your class, and a copy will be in the file at the back of the classroom.• I don’t usually give out homework, but if you haven’t finished an assignment in class, it IS homework.

Assignments (continued)

• Keep your assignments in your folder!1. If Mr. Glad does not mark an assignment

in the grade book, or records the score incorrectly, you can show me the paper to verify you did it/or correct the grade.

2. If you are in Utah Studies, you can use your journals and your assignments on most of your quizzes and tests.

• If you take a test and do not like the results, you can take it again for 1/2 the points you missed. For example – if you missed 10 points, you an take the test again and get 5 points back. You cannot redo assignments.

Absences/Tardies:

• If you are not in the classroom when the bell rings – you are tardy. Go to the office and get a tardy slip. Tardies affect your citizenship grade.• If you have a school excused absence, and an assignment was due – you have 3 extra days to turn in the assignment.• If you are absent and return on the day of a test, you have to take the test.• If you are absent and you miss a test, you have 3 days to get with me before or after school, or at lunch (1st lunch) to take the test. This is YOUR responsibility – NOT MINE.

NOISE level:

We have four levels of voices:

1 – SILENT: When you are testing, or when I need absolute attention – you will be SILENT. 2 – Low voice: Discussing at your table. If someone at another table can hear you, or can’t hear the people at his/her table – you are talking too loudly.3 – Medium voice: When we are talking as a whole class, speak loud enough for everyone in the room to hear you. 4 – VERY LOUD. IF there is an emergency and I need everyone’s attention very quickly - I will get it. You do not go above level 3! If I am at level 4 – YOU should be SILENT.

5 – If I whistle to quiet you down – you are in trouble!

Mr. Glad, I’m done with my assignment and I don’t know what to do:

If there is time when you have completed all of your work and you can’t think of anything else to do, you may ALWAYS:

1. Work on missing or late assignments for OUR class (1st) and other classes (2nd).

2. READ a good book! If you don’t bring one with you – I have some at the back of the room. MY books do not leave the classroom.

3. If you are in my French Class – read a FRENCH book.

1st Offense – I will keep the device until the end of school.

2nd Offense – I will take the device to the office, and you/your parent will have to pick it up there.

I MAY permit “Google Translate” from time to time in French classes. I WILL DECIDE.

• NO you cannot listen to music in class, even if you are finished with your exam or assignment.

DO NOT use your cell phones unless I direct otherwise.• Print your name on my ‘emergency roster’ when it comes around.• DO NOT open the door/window FOR ANYONE.• REMAIN SILENT until someone from the school opens the door and tells us it is OK to go back to work.
