Mr Burkitt’s Message
Welcome to Education Week. This week is an op-portunity for schools to celebrate the great efforts and work being achieved by our students and teachers. At Bonville Public we have quite a lot of activities happening throughout the week. Our choir and dance group performed at Park Beach Plaza today. All of the students represented our school with pride. Thank you to all of the par-ents who were able to attend. Students from Southern Cross University will be conducting Science lessons with our students on Tuesday morning. This will be followed after recess by class presentations on Poland to the CWA in the Bonville Hall. The school Spelling Bee will be on Wednesday, 8th
August at 11:30am. On Thursday morning parents are invited to a BBQ Breakfast commencing at 7:00am. This will be fol-lowed at 9:00am by a Parade of students who will be dressed as their favourite book character. We will also be holding our traditional 'Book Fair' in the Library. We hope to see you all during the week. Congratulations to all of the students who competed at the District PSSA carnival on Friday. All students’ behaviour was exemplary and irrespective of where they finished they were great representatives of our school. Now that the weather is warming up again all stu-dents must wear hats during recess and lunch time play. Students without hats will be asked to sit in the shade next to the bottom oval. If you require assis-tance in obtaining a broad brimmed school hat please contact the school.
Assembly on Friday starts at 9am
Have a great week. Dean Burkitt
PDHPE: This term in PDHPE students are being encouraged to identify different ways that they can positively influence their physical and mental health. Throughout their lives, our children will have to make personal decisions relating to nutrition, hygiene, consumerism, drug use and disease prevention. There are many conflicting opinions and values that influence them in their decision making and these choices can have a direct impact on health and well-being. Our learning will seek to develop the children’s abilities to observe, explore and interpret information in order to make informed decisions. As a community we can work together to support our students in making small changes for a brighter future. Often people think healthy is too hard, too expensive or too unobtainable but making healthy choices doesn't have to be a huge change, in fact studies have shown change is more sustainable when the changes start small. Why not challenge your children this week to replace a snack food item from their lunchbox with a humble carrot. This tiny change will not only increase the amount of vegetables consumed, but piece for piece its cheaper, and they're doing a great thing for the environment by reducing the amount of plastic waste. These are just three of many great side effects, but by far the most important message is when children are encouraged to make positive change, surrounded and supported in the home and school environment we help lay solid foundations for positive lifestyle choices. K/1H: Welcome back to this jam packed term!
K1H have been busy getting started on their
work for the term and are eager to learn all our
new topics. We have been focusing on money
and how we use this in our daily lives and using
different 2D shapes to construct different pat-
terns with blocks. This term I have already
started to see an improvement in writing and
eagerness to read. We have been reading lots
of interesting books and our favourite so far
has been Magic Beach by Alison Lester. Stu-
dents were asked to describe times when they
have been to the beach and the way they can
use their different senses to describe the
beach. Our computer skills have been improv-
ing and the Kindy students are continually en-
joying their buddy program with the Year 5/6
students. Thank you for all your support that
you have given the children so far this year.
We have a lot of events and activities coming
up over this term. Feel free to come in to K1H
for a visit!
