M. Phil. Admission 2013-1401. Introduction:

M. Phil. courses are run in the campus Schools, Sub-Centre, Latur and affiliated collegesof the University in Chemistry, Geography, Environmental Science, Bio-Technology,Microbiology, Botany, Physics, Sociology, Education, Physical Education, Political Science,English, Marathi, Hindi, Urdu, Library and Information Science, Commerce, Management andComputer Science. The M. Phil. curriculum benefits the students by inculcating in themresearch attitude and analytical skills. The courses are run at some affiliated colleges, in campusSchools at Nanded and Sub Centre at Latur. Admissions for M.Phil Courses are throughEntrance Examination.02. Syllabus for Entrance Test: Entrance Test will include research and language aptitudenumerical ability, reasoning, general knowledge and subjects related to the Master’s Degree inthe subject concerned.Entrance Test will be of 100 marks comprising two different sections.Section A: - research and language aptitude numerical ability, reasoning, general knowledge.There will be fifty multiple choice questions of 50 marks. Duration of Test - 50 minutes.This paper is common for all the candidates.Section B: - There will be fifty multiple choice questions on the subject concerned of 50 marks.Duration of Test - 50 minutes.03. Venue for Entrance Test: The Entrance Test would be conducted at University Campus,

Nanded.Date and Time: 25th August2013, 11-00 am to 1.00 pm.

04. Eligibility and Admission:i. 55% marks at Master’s Degree in relevant subject or Grade B according to U.G.C. Norms

of grading system in relevant/related subjects for open categories and 50% marks forreserved categories.

ii. Admission will be given on the basis of -(a) the performance in the entrance test conducted by the university (75%) and(b) the performance of the candidate at the Master Degree (25%).

While preparing the merit list, 75% of the marks obtained in entrance test and 25% ofthe marks obtained in respective PG courses will be considered. While consolidating the marksobtained in entrance test and PG courses, resulted fractions will be rounded off to the nextinteger.05. Duration of the Course:

The M. Phil. course is a full-time course spread over two academic years. First year isdevoted to classroom lectures and second year is devoted to documentation, laboratory work andpreparation of dissertation, etc.

Dissertation of the candidate will be accepted only after completion of the followingrequirements of the course.

(i) Satisfactory attendance (75%),(ii) Passing all the theory papers and(iii) Presenting at least one research paper at Regional / State / National level

Conference / Seminar / Symposium.A candidate is required to submit four copies of his / her dissertation to the university. A

candidate must complete the entire course within a period of one and a half years from the dateof registration.06. Distribution of seats:

70% seats are reserved for the students from this university and 30% seats are reservedfor the students from other universities. There would be over and above quota of 20% for otherstate students. Distribution of seats would be as follows:

09. General Course Structure:The M. Phil. course in campus Schools will consist of four papers which include

Research Methodology, Information Technology and two papers from the subjectconcerned at advanced level.

The course work in affiliated colleges will include one paper of ResearchMethodology / IT and three theory papers in the subject concerned. A dissertation will bebased on the project work assigned to the individual student. The general structure of thecourse is given below.

All theory papers will carry 50 internal marks and 50 external marks. Internal marks willconsist of two tests of 20 marks each and one seminar / tutorial of 10 marks. The internalmarks will be given by respective college/campus schools. The external examination of50 marks will be conducted by the University. The candidate has to secure min. 50%marks in internal examination and external examination separately. Otherwise, s/he willbe declared failed.Important note: Each theory paper, dissertation, viva-voce and seminar will formseparate head of passing. A candidate will have to obtain minimum 50% marks in eachhead of passing for becoming eligible for the award of M. Phil. Degree.

10. Fee Structure:Entrance Test Fee Rs. 1,000 for open category and Rs. 750 for reserved category.

Note:1. Tution fees for Foreign Students (other than SAARK) will be five times than the students of

India & three times will be for students of SAARK countries.2. The Student who want extenation after two years has to pay fee Rs.4000 per year to

university.

11. Refund of Fee:

In case of cancellation of admission, 10% deduction of the total fees will be made and the

balance amount will be refunded on or before the date of spot admission. There will be no

refund of fees after spot admissions are over, under any circumstances. If the student who has

been permitted to pay part payment at the time of admission cancels her/his admission, s/he will

be required to pay balance amount of total fees before her/his admission is cancelled.

12. Medium of Instruction and Examination:

The medium of instructions and examinations for information technology and research

methodology for the course work will be in English. The candidate will have options to write

theory papers and Dissertation in Marathi/English language for M.Phil. course in Economics,

Political Science, Social work, Media studies, Geography and Sociology, offered in campus

Schools and Affiliated Colleges. However, the candidates doing M.Phil in languages will have to

submit the dissertation and theory papers in their respective languages.

13. Passing Rules for M.Phil courses:

The assessment of the seminar (MP-107) will be made by the Head of departmentin the concerned subject, Research Guide and any two research guides in the campusSchools/College Department. The candidate will have to deliver minimum two seminarseach carrying 12.5 marks. Among these two seminars, one seminar should be on theDissertation.

After the candidate has secured minimum final grade points in all the Heads of

Passing and presented at least one research paper at Regional/State/National Level

Conference/Seminar/Symposia/workshop, the M. Phil. Dissertation Seminar (Second

Seminar) will be arranged for submitting the Dissertation. Viva-voce (MP-106) will be

arranged later on. This viva-voce will be faced by the candidate only after receiving the

satisfactory report and assessment (marks) of the dissertation given by referee.

In case of Dissertation, the marks and grades awarded by the external referee shall

be taken as final. If the external referee has suggested modifications in the dissertation,

the candidate will have to resubmit the dissertation after suitable modifications within a

period of two months from the declaration of the first result. In case of rejection of

Dissertation, the candidate will have to resubmit the Dissertation within a period of six

months and a fresh panel of referees may be appointed for the resubmitted Dissertation.

Only one resubmission of the dissertation shall be allowed in the academic session. In the

case of course work, a student who does not get the minimum final grade point and will

have to reappear for the examination in that course and only two chances will be given

for re-examination.
