How we traditionally managed travel risks

• PRIOR TO DEPARTUREo Pre-travel preparation rested with traveller and TMC o Risk assessments based on smartraveller.gov.au o Medical advice / Travel kits provided by Medical Directoro Pre-travel reports used to track employeeso Belief that our travel was low risk & our measures adequate

• EN ROUTE ASSISTANCEo Insurer, Medical Director, Line Manager or me

• ON RETURNo Medical Director / own medico

Page 6: Moving To An Integrated Traveller Risk Mngnt Program Isos Conference 2010

What triggered our change in thinking…o Loss of Medical Director in Oct 2009 o Clear need to provide better pre-travel preparationo Access to reliable, current safety & medical adviceo En Route Assist reactive only, never fully testedo Help Desk & Travel Portal required o More focus required on expats and families o Response to a pandemic o Access to real time traveller tracking o Travellers unsure who to contact in an emergencyo Too many gaps in our Duty of Care responsibilities

Clearly, our measures had not been adequate and the right level of care was not being provided

Page 7: Moving To An Integrated Traveller Risk Mngnt Program Isos Conference 2010

Goals

o An end-to-end risk management program which pushed the info outo A program dependent, not person dependent programo Education and protection for our travellerso 24/7/365 assistanceo A scalable program to grow with our needso Program with a simple message – ie ‘just call International SOS’o Auditable compliance reporting to minimise litigious risko A program which encouraged shared DOC responsibility o Peace of mind for employees, SLT, Directors (and me)

We must provide better care for our employees

Page 8: Moving To An Integrated Traveller Risk Mngnt Program Isos Conference 2010

How the Change became effective…..

o Legal confirmed the obvious - our DOC was lackingo Procurement engaged the market for an outsourced solutiono Solution presented in a Business Case to HR and our

partnerso Quick approval received from all o Implementation period 6 weekso Go live Dec 2009 with a comprehensive program

There is more to do however we think the biggest gaps are now covered

So how does it work…….

TMC transmits booking to ISOS

and Travel Tracker

Traveller

Procurement audits daily ATA non-

compliance reports. Non compliant

travellers chased.

Traveller engages with:o Medical Centreo ISOS Alarm Centreo DFAT Registrationo ISOS Member Card

Traveller departs and contacts ISOS

for any en route assistance

ISOS works with our Insurer where

necessary

Traveller returns. Medical history avail

for follow-up treatment.

Traveller MUST read &

acknowledge Advisory
