Metrolinx, an agency of the Government of Ontario under the Metrolinx Act, 2006, was

created to improve the coordination and integration of all modes of transportation in the

Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA).

The Big Move A 25-year integrated transportation plan for the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area.

The Regional Transportation Plan must be reviewed at least every 10 years after the Metrolinx Act

came into force. This means that The Big Move must be reviewed by 2016.

Station Access and Parking Plan

• GO provides almost 70,000 parking spaces for

customers across the network.

• Ridership continues to increase and many parking

lots are near or at capacity

• Planning framework has been developed that

considers different approaches for parking, and

recommends a phased implementation plan for

delivering parking.

• Strategies include: o Reserved parking

o Carpool to GO

o GO Electric

o Carsharing Services

o Fare and Service Integration w/ Local Transit

o Last Mile Services

o Improved Active Transportation

The Big Move Aims to Get People and Goods Moving

• Movement of people and movement of goods are

interdependent. Shared infrastructure systems.

• The Big Move is a multi-modal plan with

actions, policies and investments to move

people and freight more efficiently and

effectively together.

• The GTHA Urban Freight Study was

published following a year of consultation to

identify key concerns and issues.

• The findings of the study highlight 5 strategic

directions and 17 actions

• Goods Movement strategies will be analyzed

as part of The Big Move Legislative Review

Mission: Achieve measurable travel behavior changes through high quality, cost-effective

Transportation Demand Management solutions.

Demand Management Solutions:

• Provide GO Train station access options (e.g. Zipcar, Carpool 2 GO, EV charging)

• Support active and sustainable school travel

• Work with 700,000+ commuters across the region to promote sustainable travel options through

a relationship with their workplace

• Provide assistance in planning for business continuity (e.g. during Gardiner Expressway

construction, Pan Am/Parapan Games)
