Movin’ with MINIONS Jelly Today In YOGA I Practiced: Silly Breath I stand very still while I inhale (breathe in) for 3 seconds then dance and wiggle like a minion while I exhale (breathe out) for 4 seconds. Mindful Minion Meditation Maze - We practiced a walking meditation in a labyrinth with pauses to be still. Books & Songs: The Boy Who Loved Bananas by George Elliot Beautiful Bananas by Elizabeth Laird Ugly Fish by Kara LaReau This is Not My Hat by Thierry Robberecht The Huey’s by Oliver Jeffers Minions. Evil Panic! by Stéphane Lapuss' Banana! By Ed Vere YMCA Song by the Minions Happy Song by Pharrell Williams Today In CLIMBING I Practiced: Arête– An arête is an outside corner. I can climb with one foot on each wall and the corner poking my belly. Crimp Hold- A crimper or edge hold is small enough for only the tips of my fingers. Mindful Footwork- I check out all of my foothold options before I climb. I use the strong part of my foot near the big toe. I use quiet feet and try place my foot exactly where I want it to be. Matching & Switching Feet- I can put both feet on the same hold to “match”. If I need to make a traversing move I can match my feet and then bump one over to a new hold. Today In SWIMMING I Practiced: Flutter Kicks- Like a scuba diver! In backstroke & freestyle I move my legs up and down trying not to bend my knees too much. Breaststroke Kicks- Like a frog! Both of my legs bend, then spread out to the sides and then snap together. I have to freeze and glide after every kick. “Double, Decker, Chocolate Cake”. Butterfly Kicks- Like a dolphin or a mermaid! I superglue my legs together and move them both up and down at the same time. I use my strong core muscles to move my body like an inchworm. *Child-centered learning. Your class may not practice every listed skill. Today’s Jelly (class theme) is Minion Mayhem! We’ll use our tiny yellow feet to practice kicks in the pool, footwork on the wall, and toega on the mat.
