Moved by Mercy

Dear People and Friends of Saint Joseph’s,

“Moved by Mercy” is this year’s theme for Respect Life Sunday. Certainly this captures much of the Lord Jesus’ teaching about how we are to live as his Intentional Disciples. He showed us the extent of his mercy and love in stretching out his arms on the cross. Easier said than done, “Moved by Mercy” challenges us not only to respect life at all its stages, but to do so in an active, involved way that demonstrates that we are Intentional Disciples of the Lord who joyfully want to defend and serve the dignity of life of all human beings.

The mandate of the Sacred Scriptures is not only to love God and neighbor, but to do so because each person has great dignity and is sacred in God’s eyes. Made in God’s im-age and likeness, the human person receives this dignity from the Lord himself. This dignity and sacred nature of human life is the basis for all of the Church’s Pro-Life teachings. Despite our critics who mock us as being just “Pro-Birth,” the Catholic Church’s approach truly demonstrates a defense and care of all human beings - at conception, before birth, at birth and with each passing birthday until natural death.

Pro-Life is not a slogan or a political agenda, especially for us at Saint Joseph’s. Putting into practice the Gospel of Life taught by the Lord Jesus and reaffirmed by Saint Pope John Paul II is the way we live our Catholic faith following Christ. From opposing abortion and teaching the proper use of sexual relations to advocating for the immigrant and refugee to feed-ing the hungry and clothing the naked, to educating our chil-dren and caring for our elderly and sick, Saint Joseph’s lives the Gospel of Life every day. Our parish also provides you with the opportunity to promote and protect the dignity of hu-man life by offering many ways to be involved in these Life-affirming activities.

Here are some ways for you to be involved in our Life-affirming ministries:

Assist at the Community Meals we serve at St. Mary’s

Participate in our ‘Caring Kitchen’ to provide a meal to parishioners at moments of need (illness, birth of a baby, etc.)

Send your children to Resurrection and Catholic High to be formed in an environment that affirms life

Volunteer with the Cub Scouts or Boy Scouts

Get involved in our Pro-Life Committee activities – 40 Days for Life, Spiritual Adoption, The March for Life, Baby Shower for single moms, etc.

Become a member of the Legion of Mary, who visit the sick, the home-bound, and new parishioners

Help form our children by the Gospel of Life by being a teacher or aide in our CCD program

Tutor or serve meals in the After-School program at San Juan Bautista

Accompany a grieving person or family as part of our Bereavement Ministry

RESURRECTION CATHOLIC SCHOOL NEWS

YOUR PARISH SCHOOL

Our Fall Tuition Appeal letters will arrive in the mail this week. About 39% of our students need help to afford Catholic education. With that help, they learn about their Catholic traditions, discover their Catholic identity, and practice the values that guide them as they grow and learn. When you donate to Resurrection’s tuition fund, you lead us into the next 25 years. During our daily prayers, we remember those that have come before us and paved the way, and those who donate to help secure our future. Please help us as your means allow, but es-pecially support us with your prayers for our students.

On Thursday, October 6, we invite everyone to pray the Rosary with us on the eve of the Feast of the Holy Ro-sary. Join us at 6:30pm in the school gym for our family Rosary.

Our school Mass on October 6 at 9:30am at St. An-thony of Padua Church will be led by the fifth grade and celebrated by Father Wolfe. There will be no school Mass October 13 when priests are involved in a Dioce-san workshop.

The After School program seeks a person to work Mon-day, Wednesday and Friday from 2:30 to 6:00pm. Call 392-3083 if interested.

We invite your family to become part of the Resurrection family!

Family of Faith – Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow.

During the weekend of October 8, baby bottles will be available for members to take home and fill with cash, coins, and checks. Checks should be made out to A Woman’s Concern. Bottles should be returned to the church during the weekend of October 29. All contributions will be used by A Woman’s Concern to further its mission to compassionately support and counsel those in our community facing the chal-lenges of pregnancy so that they can make life-affirming deci-sions for themselves and their unborn child.

CATHOLIC WORKER HOUSE WINTER CLOTHING GIVE-AWAY: Please join us in donating all of your GENTLY used CLEAN WINTER clothing for The Catholic Worker House’s annual winter clothing giveaway. The clothing giveaway will be held at San Juan Bautista’s Plaza on Saturday, November 12

ceived immediately. We have hundreds of less fortunate peo-ple who are desperately in need of warm attire. Please label each bag “CWH-Women’s”, “CWH-Men’s” or “CWH-Children’s”. This makes sorting much easier for our volunteers. You may drop the items off after Mass in the Good Shepherd Room the weekend of October 15-16. Thank you for your support!
