The tradition of the high-performance Mitsubishi Racing moniker dates back to 1970, with theMitsubishi Galant GTO MR, Mitsubishi's first production car powered by a DOHC engine thatboasted 125 horsepower. So while times, and engine outputs, have changed, Mitsubishi'scommitment to performance has not. The name says it all NO MERCY… and it proved its point during the Motor Bazaar Photoshoot.We had a very special encounter with this beauty. So fast we had to use a Subaru for the shootjust to match. Seated on the back seat on our way to the shoot, all I could hear isvrooommm pssst. A lot can be said about the evo. Power, Stability, Control, Comfortable and thelist goes on. This specific Mitsubishi is a type MR.Building on the Lancer Evolution's rally-proven reputation, the MR Edition pushes theperformance envelope even further with improvements to the crucial elements that makedriving a true pleasure. Engine output was increased, but more power was not the top priority.Although the recent meteoric rise of horsepower figures seems to be the top selling point formany new vehicles, Mitsubishi focused its development efforts on the intricate coordinationbetween engine output and handling performance.
In gunmetal grey, the Evo had a very mean yet sporty look. Huge vents, wings and grilles dottedall around the car is a matter of taste, but there’s no denying it has massive presence fromevery angle. The front bumper and bonnet sport no fewer than nine vents, which are essentialfor cooling that powerful engine. The square number plate has been moved to the side to allowmaximum airflow to the turbocharger’s intercooler.

PerformanceThe Evolution MR Edition features several
enhancing features: a lightweight aluminum roof
panel (a first for a Japanese production model),
designed to lower the center of gravity and reduce
the roll moment; jointly developed Bilstein
monotube shock absorbers to improve road
holding. Special light weight 17” OZ RACING RIMS
wrapped on Dunlop tyres gives the car more
stability. On all Lancer Evolutions, the 2.0-liter
inline four-cylinder DOHC intercooled-turbocharged
engine is tuned to deliver maximum power over
the mid- to high-rev band, generating 286 lb-ft of
torque at 3500 rpm. Horsepower on this one is
at 300+. As an exclusive for the MR Edition,
a six-speed transmission makes the power more
accessible. The Evolution's AWD system gains an
Active Center Differential (ACD) and front
limited-slip, which - combined with Sports ABS -
creates a more natural, better-mannered driving
feel. Man and machine have never been so close.
InteriorAs a reminder of what's just overhead, the
Evolution MR Edition adds an aluminum shift knob,
an aluminum and carbon fiber brake lever handle;
and aluminum pedals. The track-tuned Evolution
RS also benefits from the newly available
aluminum roof. The MR Edition's sport meter
gauge kit is made up of a three-ring gauge cluster
located in the center stack. The gauges display
boost, voltage and oil pressure. As with the trunk
lid emblem, the MR designation is finished in red
to stamp its presence more vividly on the interior.
But that is not all for this specific one. Alot more
performance parts are on the way. So when you
see the EVO MR on your rear view mirror, please
cooperate and move your vehicle to the side.
