I. IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS

Before submission of the online Application Form, the candidate should read this

notification carefully.

On behalf of UGC, Mother Teresa Women’s University, Kodaikanal (MTWU), Tamil Nadu

announces holding of the State Eligibility Test (TNSET-2016) on 21.02.2016 (SUNDAY) fordetermining the eligibility for Assistant Professor in Tamil Nadu universities and colleges.MTWU will conduct TNSET-2016 in 25 subjects at 16 selected Centres of Examinationspread across the state.

Candidates who qualify the TNSET- 2016 are governed by the recruitment rules and

regulations stipulated for the Assistant Professors of concerned Universities / Colleges / Institutions (Government/ Aided /Private) of Tamil Nadu State.

The result of the TNSET-2016 examination to be held on 21.02.2016 will be made available on

the websites: www.setexam2016.in as and when it is declared. The candidate will not be individually intimated about their result.

II. CONDITIONS OF ELIGIBILITY:

1. Candidates who have secured at least 55% of marks (without rounding off) for Generalcategory and 50% for Backward Classes, Most Backward Classes (MBC) / DenotifiedCommunities (DNC) / Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), Persons withDisability (PWD-VH/PH), in Master’s Degree OR equivalent examination fromuniversities / institutions recognized by UGC New Delhi, in subjects like Science,Humanities (including languages), Social Science, Computer Science & Applications,Electronic science etc., are eligible to appear for this test.

2. Candidates who have appeared (OR) will be appearing at the Master’s Degree (final year)examination and whose result is still awaited (OR) candidates whose qualifyingexaminations have been delayed may also appear for this test. However, such candidateswill be admitted provisionally and for those who clear the TNSET- 2016 examination,eligibility certificate will be issued only on production of proof for having passed theMaster’s degree or equivalent examination securing at least 55% marks (without roundingoff) for General Category and 50% for Backward Classes/ Most Backward Classes(MBC) / Denotified Communities (DNC) / Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST),Persons with Disability (PWD-VH/PH), within two years from the date of TNSET-2016examination, failing which they will be treated as disqualified.

3. The Ph.D. Degree holders whose Master’s Degree completed on or before 19 th September

1991 (irrespective of declaration of result) shall be eligible for a relaxation of 5% marksfor appearing in TNSET-2016 examination.

4. Candidates shall appear for TNSET-2016 examination in their relevant subject of theirpost-graduation only, in case the candidate did not find the subject of his post graduation inthe list of TNSET-2016 subjects, the candidate may appear in UGC-NET / UGC-CSIRNET which is held twice a year.

5. Candidates other than general category are required to mention their social status in theonline application form. Candidates may note that they should satisfy the eligibilityconditions with reference to the documents such as PG degree marks sheet and certificates,community certificates and certificates related to PWD (VH/PH) uploaded with theirapplication. The community certificates submitted by the candidates must be issuedby the competent authority. In case their certificate is found to be invalid by the TNSET-2016 agency at any stage, their candidature will be cancelled and they shall be liable forlegal action.

6. Candidates should note that their candidature is provisional. The mere fact that anadmission card has been issued to a candidate will not imply that the TNSET- 2016 centrehas accepted his/her candidature. Candidates may note that candidature will be deemedfinal only upon verification of eligibility conditions.

III. AGE LIMIT:

There is no upper age limit for applying for TNSET- 2016 examination.

IV. EXAMINATION FEE AND MODE OF PAYMENT:

1. The candidates may pay the examination fee either by credit/ debit card or through e-challan generated during the online filling of the application form. In case of e-challan thepayment should be made in the SBI. In case the examination fee is paid throughcredit/debit card the additional processing charges as following will also be debited fromthe credit/debit card of the candidate along with applicable taxes.

2. After filling all the details for applying online for TNSET-16, the candidate will have theoption to select the mode of payment of examination fee either by credit/debit card orthrough e-challan generated during the online filling of the application form indicatingtheir details therein.

3. The candidates are required to check the status of fee payment at TNSET website(www.setexam2016.in) and if the status is ‘OK’ the candidate will be able to take theprintout of Confirmation Page. In case, the fee payment status is not ‘OK’ thecandidates are advised as following:-

If the fee is paid through e-challan by depositing cash in above mentioned bank, thecandidate should contact immediately the concerned bank to update his/her fee status onthe website.

If the fee is paid through credit/debit card and status is not OK, it means thetransaction is cancelled and the amount will be refunded to concerned credit/debit cardwithin a week. Such candidates have to pay the fee once again.

Please note that fee submitted by any other mode like money order, demand draft, IPOetc. will be rejected. Fee once paid will not be refunded under any circumstances.

Candidate must enter his/her mobile number only while making payment.

V. SCHEME AND DATE OF TEST:

i) The Test will consist of three papers. All the three papers will consist of only objective typequestions and will be held on 21.02.2016 (SUNDAY) in three separate sessions as under:

Paper-I shall be of general nature, intended to assess the teaching/research aptitude of thecandidate. It will primarily be designed to test reasoning ability, comprehension, divergentthinking and general awareness of the candidate. 60 (sixty) multiple choice questions of 2marks each will be given, out of which the candidate would be required to answer any 50(fifty). In the event of the candidate attempted more than 50 questions, the first 50 questionsattempted by the candidate would be evaluated.

Paper-II shall consist of 50 objective type compulsory questions based on the subject selectedby the candidate. Each question will carry 2 marks.

Paper-III will consist of 75 objective type compulsory questions from the subject selected bythe candidate. Each question will carry 2 marks.

All the questions of Paper – II and Paper – III will be compulsory, covering entire syllabus(including all electives, without options).

The candidate will have to mark the responses for questions of Paper – I, Paper - II and Paper– III on the Optical Mark Reader (OMR) Sheet provided along with the test booklet.

The detailed instructions for filling up the OMR sheet are given.. It may be noted thatthese instructions to candidates will not be sent to any of the candidate by post.

VI. PROCEDURE & CRITERIA FOR DECLARATION OF RESULT

This will comprise the following steps for considering a candidate for the eligibility for Assistant Professorship:

Step I: Minimum marks to be obtained in TNSET- 2016 for considering a candidate for theeligibility for Assistant Professor:

The candidates are required to obtain minimum marks separately in Paper-I, Paper-II and Paper–III as given below:

Step II: Amongst those candidates who have cleared step I, a merit list will be preparedsubject-wise and category-wise using the aggregate marks of all the three papers secured bysuch candidates.

Step III: Top 15% candidates (for each subject and category), from the merit list mentionedunder step II, will be declared TNSET- 2016 qualified for eligibility for Assistant Professoronly.

It may be noted that the above qualifying criteria decided by TNSET- 2016 is final andbinding.

VII. PROVISIONS FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITY

1. Twenty five minutes compensatory time shall be provided for Paper – I and Paper – IIseparately. For paper – III, fifty minutes compensatory time shall be provided. Thesecandidates, on their request, will also be provided the services of a scribe who wouldbe a graduate in a subject other than that of the candidate.

2. The Persons with Disability (Physically Challenged) candidates who are not in aposition to write in their own hand-writing can also avail the services of scribe bymaking prior request (at least one week before the date of TNSET-2016) in writing tothe concerned centre Superintendent. Compensatory time and facility of scribe wouldnot be provided to other Persons with Disability (Physically Challenged) candidates.

3. The candidate has the discretion of opting for his/her own scribe or has to request theconcerned Centre Superintendent for the same in writing at least one week in advance

of the test. In such instances the candidate is allowed to meet the scribe a day beforethe examination so as to verify whether the scribe is suitable or not. Those candidateswho opt for their own scribe have to produce the scribe before the concernedCentre Superintendent along with his/her certificates of educational qualifications atleast one day before the test.

4. An amount of Rs. 1000/- (Rs. One thousand only) will be paid to the scribe by theCentre superintendent on the day of examination for all papers.

VIII. ADMISSION CARD

It may be noted that the admission card will be uploaded on the websitewww.setexam2016.in. No admission cards will be sent to the candidates by post. Thecandidates should download their admission cards from the website to ascertain theirvenue of the Test as mentioned in the Admission Card and appear in the examinationonly at the designated examination centre. No candidate will be allowed to appearat the examination centre other than that allotted to him/her in the admission card.

IX. HOW TO APPLY (APPLICATION HAVE TO BE SUBMITTED ONLINE): STEPS FOR SUBMISSION OF ONLINE APPLICATION FORM

1. Candidate seeking admission to the Test (TNSET-2016,) must apply online only on theMTWU website: www.setexam2016.in

2. Before applying Online, the candidates must possess the scanned images as below:-

Passport size photograph in JPG format of minimum 4kb to 40 kb. The

dimension of the photograph should be 3.5 cm (width) x 4.5 cm (height).

Signature in JPG format of minimum 4kb to 30 kb. The dimension of the signature

should be 3.5 cm (width) x 1.5 cm (height).3. After filling all the details for applying online for TNSET- 2016 the candidates have to

select the option of payment of examination fee either by credit/debit card or throughe-challan generated during the online filling of the application form

4. The candidates are required to bring a photo identity card along with theirprintout of online admission card on the day of examination.

5. Please note that Fee submitted through any other mode like Money Order,Demand Draft, IPO etc. will be summarily rejected.

6. In other to avoid last minute rush, the candidates are advised to apply early enough.Mother Teresa Women’s University will not be responsible for TNSET-2016 workproblems or any other problem of this nature in submission of online application duringlast days.

X. GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

1. The candidates must read the conditions of eligibility as given carefully and mustsatisfy themselves regarding their eligibility for the Test before filling the onlineapplication Form.

2. Submission of Online Application is mandatory. Hard copies of application form willnot be accepted by Mother Teresa Women’s University.

3. Application Form must be complete in all respects as per the Notification.4. All incomplete Application Forms will be rejected.5. Applications submitted on any other format will not be accepted.6. Printout of online application (Confirmation Page) should be kept by the candidate for

further reference.7. No applications can be submitted after the last date 10.02.2016.

8. The Candidate should note that their candidature is strictly provisional. The mere factthat Admission Card has been issued and the candidate is allowed to appear in the testshall not imply that the University has finally accepted his/her candidature.

9. Mother Teresa Women’s University may change the Centre of examination or dateof examination without assigning any reason.

10. It may be noted that the Admission Card will be uploaded on the websitewww.setexam2016.in. The candidates are requested to ascertain their venue of the testin the mentioned Admission Card and appear for examination only at thedesignated examination centre. No candidate will be allowed to appear atthe examination Centre other than that allotted to him/her in the admission card.

11. The candidates are required to bring a photo identity card also along with their printoutof online Admission Card on the day of examination. No candidate will be allowed toappear in the examination whose admission card is not issued by the University.

12. To ensure fair conduct of examination frisking of the candidates will be done properlyat main entry gate of the exam Centre. The candidates should report at the examinationCentre 2 hrs 30 minutes prior to commencement of examination and cooperate with theinvigilators in frisking. No candidate will be allowed to enter the examinationCentre/hall after commencement of examination. No candidate will be allowed toleave the examination hall/room before 10:45 AM in the 1st session, 12:30 PM inthe 2nd session and 4:30 p.m. in the 3rd session.

13. All the examination hall/room will have a wall clock so the candidates are not allowedto wear any type of watch in the examination hall/room.

14. Mother Teresa Women’s University will provide a ball point pen to the all thecandidates in the examination hall/room so the candidates are not allowed to carry anytype of pen/pencil in the examination hall/room.

15. The use of calculators/Log Tables is not permitted. Mobile phones, pagers, electronicdevices, bits of paper, books/note books etc. are not allowed in the ExaminationHall/Room. The candidate(s) found in possession of any of these items in theexamination hall/room will be treated as unfair means and his/her result will not bedeclared.

16. The candidates have to follow the instructions given by the invigilators in theexamination hall/room and should not argue with the invigilators or other staff involvedin the examination duty at the examination Centre. The candidates, who will not followthe instructions, will be treated as unfair means and his/her result will not be declared.

17. In the examination hall/room, the candidates will neither talk to each other nor discussany matter during the examination. The candidates should not disturb the candidates inthe examination room and maintain complete silence during the examination. Thecandidate violating these instructions will be treated as unfair means and his/her resultwill not be declared.

18. A candidate who does not appear in paper-I, will not be permitted to appear in paper-IIand paper-III.

19. Candidates will not be allowed to write any question from the Test Booklet on theAdmission Card or on any other paper.

20. There are no negative marks for incorrect answers.21. The candidate shall have to return the original OMR Sheet of Paper I, II and III to the

Invigilator before leaving the examination hall/room. No TA will be paid to thecandidates, on account of appearing at the examination etc.

22. The captured images of response sheets (OMR sheets) of the candidates appeared inTNSET-MTWU 2016 and answer keys of all the papers will be displayed on thewebsite www.setexam2016.in (the exact dates will be notified later in thenewspapers). The candidates, who are not satisfied with the captured response, maychallenge by filling online application form on the website www.setexam2016.in bypaying a sum of Rs.1000/- per question The challenge of answer keys will also beaccepted online only through the link available on the website www.setexam2016.inon payment of Rs.1000/- per question. The fee can be paid by credit/debit card or e-challan. In case the challenge of any candidate regarding captured images of responsesheets (OMR sheets)/answer keys is accepted, the fee will be refunded to suchcandidates. In all other cases the fee once paid will not be refunded. MotherTeresa Women’s University’s decision on the challenges shall be final and theresult will be declared on the basis of final answer keys.

23. The marks of all the candidates will be uploaded on Mother Teresa Women’sUniversity website www.setexam2016.in soon after declaration of result. Besides this,Mother Teresa Women’s University will not issue any marks sheet to qualified/nonqualified candidates.

24. Further, the candidates, having any grievances with regard to answer key (s) evenafter declaration of result of TNSET- 2016, may send a written request to theMember Secretary, TNSET 2016, Mother Teresa Women’s University, Kodaikanal– 624 101 supporting his/her stand with standard books/literature along with aDemand Draft of Rs. 5,000/- in favour of Secretary, Mother Teresa Women’sUniversity payable at Kodaikanal within one month from the date of declarationof result on TNSET- 2016 examination. The envelope should be markedGrievance Regarding Answer Key(s) of TNSET-2016. The request(s) so receivedwill be placed before the Expert Committee(s) for re-examination of the answerkey(s).

25. In case the answer key(s) is/are found to be incorrect, the MTWU will process theresult in the light of changed key (s) and qualify the additional candidates Eligibilityfor Assistant Professor. However, the result of previously qualified candidates ofeligibility for Assistant Professor shall remain unchanged.

26. There are no negative marks for incorrect answers.27. The marks of all the candidates will be uploaded on Mother Teresa Women’s

University TNSET website www.setexam2016.in soon after declaration of result.

Those postgraduate students who have passed post graduate examination in more than onesubject can appear for TNSET examination only in one subject at a time.

XIII. SYLLABUS :

Syllabus: Syllabus for TNSET examination will be the same as in UGC/CSIR-NET.Mother Teresa Women’s University Kodaikanal will not send the syllabus to thecandidates individually. Syllabi for all SET subjects can be downloaded from UGCwebsite www.ugc.ac.in.

XVI. INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE OF TEST BOOKLET AND ANSWER SHEETThe candidates will find the Answer Sheet placed inside the sealed Test Booklet. Theseal will be broken/ opened by the candidates on the announcement by the invigilatorand the Answer Sheet shall be taken out. Do not open/break the seal before theannouncement. The candidates should verify the serial number and series of the TestBooklet with the serial number and series of OMR sheet. In case of any variation, the TestBooklet and OMR sheet should be immediately returned to the invigilator for thereplacement with another set of same series available in the examination hall/centre.

1. Each Answer Sheet will have a pre-printed Test Booklet Code like A, B, C or D. Thecandidates are required to check that the Test Booklet Code pre-printed on theAnswer Sheet is the same as printed on the Test Booklet.

2. The Answer Sheet used will be of special type which will be scanned onOptical Scanner.

The following columns of the Answer Sheet are to be filled in neatly and accurately by the candidate with Blue/Black ball point pen only. Use of pencil is strictly prohibited.

(i) Out of four alternatives for each question, only one circle for the correct answer is to bedarkened completely with blue/black Ball Point Pen only. For example Question No. 008 inthe Test Booklet reads as follows:

The correct response to this question is (1) Delhi. The candidate will locate Question No. 008 in the Answer Sheet and darken the circle (1) as shown below:008

(ii) Use Blue or Black Ball Point Pen to completely darken the appropriate circle, i.e. one circlefor each entry.The answer once marked is not liable to be changed. Use of pencil is strictly prohibited. If anycandidate uses the pencil for darkening the answer sheet, his/her answer sheet will be rejected.

(iii) A light or faintly darkened circle is a wrong method of marking and liable to be rejected bythe Optical Scanner. So, the circle should be properly darkened.

(v) If the candidate does not want to attempt any question he/she should not darken the circlegiven against that question.

(vi)Please do not fold the Answer Sheet and do not make any stray marks on it.

(vii) ROUGH WORKThe candidate will not do any rough work on the Answer Sheet. All rough work is to be done in the Test Booklet itself.

(viii) CHANGING AN ANSWER IS NOT ALLOWED

The candidates must fully satisfy themselves about the accuracy of the answer before

darkening the appropriate circle as no change in answer once marked is allowed. Useof eraser or white/correction fluid on the Answer Sheet is not permissible as theAnswer Sheets are machine gradable and it may lead to wrong evaluation.

If more than one circle is darkened or if the response is marked in any other manner

except the“Correct Method” shown above, it shall be treated as wrong way of marking.

Prior to handing over the Answer Sheet soon after the examination is over, the
