Why?

1

Since the age of fourteen my dream has been to tour the world by motorcycle following the trails blazed of those who have gone before: Ted Simon, Helge Pedersen, Réne Cormier, and others, known and unknown. By motorcycle? Yes by motorbike as, unlike the automobile, it is not only a means of transport, but with its openness it also encourages encounters and personal exchanges. To travel by motorbike is a challenge that makes the traveler more humble and at one with the road and his worldThis world tour is not a simple passing moment in my life; this is a new beginning, a new path in life for me, my search for the purpose of life. This tour is a trip of discovery, both of the wider world and my inner self. Become the messenger of the dreams of men seeing in their eyes that dream dust, wear the bottom of my soul, a part of them and share these experiences, these experiences, these meetings with photography and writing . As a result of my interests and ambitions, in 2012, I received the honour and privilege of being the first Francophone selected as a member of the Ted Simon’s Foundation.

"Jupiter’s Travellers are people who seek to understand the beauties, mysteries and tragedies of our world, and their place in it, through personal adventure. They are inspired and motivated to develop their observations and insights into something of value for the rest of the world to share, whatever their medium of expression might be."

Who?

I was born September 2nd, 1967, in Boulogne-Billan-court, France, a western suburb of Paris. Thus, I’m not a ‘real’ Parisian according to my wife. In 1998, we moved to Québec, travelled back roads of North America on mo-torcycle, but still this desire to tour further by motorcy-cle haunts me.

How?

By motorcycle: a 2008 BMW 1200GS Adventure we dub-bed ‘Magda’. This bike is my dream; it is versatile and carries two with all our camping gear to far-flung places. It is a perfect bike for both highway and off-road adven-tures.

By photograph: my other passion is photography and I intend to capture moments, landscapes and passing emo-tions with my camera. My photo-essay of this trip will be in both colour and my favourite, black and white images.

InspirationIn my youth I followed the Paris–Dakar rally where le-gendary riders like Cyril Neveu and Hubert Auriol inspi-red me. I dreamed of participating in this great race as well as the near-mythical Vendée Globe and the Route du Rhum. Inspiration also came from the great naviga-tors such as Titouan Lamazou and Loïc Perron. Through them the sense of adventure took hold in me. I have al-ways been attracted by the sense of adventure faced alone, where Man is confronted by something larger than himself.

My constant companion for many years has been the book, Errance by Raymond Depardon. Through his wri-tings and pictures, Depardon has indelibly marked me.

«Errance is neither the journey nor the walk but this world expe-rience that refers to a fundamental question: what am I doing here? Why here rather than elsewhere? How to live as long as possible in the present, that is to say be happy? How to look, ac-cept? What I am, what is my value, what is my view?» Olivier Verdun.
