Why not try Parkrun? Parkrun was the idea of Paul Swinton-Hewitt in 2004 with the first one being at Bushey in Hertfordshire. On the first Saturday of this April in Parkruns across the U.K., organised by over 8000 volunteers, over 80,000 people took part in nearly 400 parks. All U.K. Parkruns are held over a 5 kilometre (just over 3 miles) course and start at 09:00 every Saturday; what a great way to start the weekend! Gainsborough’s own Parkrun starts and finishes on the open area just below West Lindsey Leisure Centre. All of us who run/jog/walk/get fit do so for our own enjoyment/health/well -being and that is the core value of Parkrun. All ages and abilities are welcome. Many first timers walk or walk and jog, maybe with a friend or relative (or dog). Parkrun is FREE!! All you have to do is go onto the Parkrun UK website to register, print a bar code, then turn up at the start to an enthusiastic welcome from the very supportive volunteers and fellow participants. At the finish your bar code is read and your result is on your computer by the time you get home! Find details at Parkrun Gainsborough web site. There are Parkruns in many nearby towns, like Scunthorpe and Lincoln and I’ve even run Parkrun in Singapore and New Zealand! Why not give it a go. If you want to ask me more about Parkrun, you can contact me on 01427 613998. Cheers, Cliff Middleton Find details at Parkrun Gainsborough web site. ST PAUL’S CHURCH MORTON WEST LINDSEY OPEN CHURCHES FESTIVAL

During the first two week-ends of May, churches throughout West Lindsey will be open to the public and St. Paul’s church will be open 14 and 15th May between 10 a.m.-4 p.m. The Festival generates a lot of interest from visitors from a large area of the country, and St Paul’s has many visitors to view the stained glass windows and other features of the church. This year we are trying something a little different to try to involve the Morton Community in the festival “A Celebration of Flowers.” We are inviting you to bring to church any possessions that you have with flowers included in the design of it that you may think visitors will be interested in looking at. Suggestions are:- Ceramics, cups, saucers, plates, jugs, ornaments etc “Flower Fairy” collectables, fabrics, dresses, skirts, scarves etc. Pictures, paintings, photography, books, poetry. We will also be having four displays over the week-end that you are invited to contribute to. An art exhibition of flower paintings by local artists that could be offered for sale. Photographs of children and flowers/gardens. A collage of flowers, using any media-maximum A3 A miniature garden in a foil container. Any item can be brought to church on Friday between 3-6 p.m. to be placed on the display tables, pin board on window bottoms. Further details available from the Churchwardens Alan Clapham- 612546 or Jim Muncaster 612329. THE LABYRINTH The labyrinth was created in the field adjoining St. Paul’s Church in 2015. This year the children of Morton Trentside School have been asked to design a series of 16 panels to be placed round the Labyrinth in words and pictures of the hymn “All th ings bright and beautiful.” The panels will be A3 size on a metal support. If you would like to sponsor a panel please ask for details from either of the above two contacts, your name will be included on the panel The panels will be on displayed over the Churches Festival Weekend. During the weekend Morton Beavers, Cubs, Rainbows. Brownies and Guides will be having demonstrations and exhibitions on the field that you are invited to join in with.

Morton Village Hall Entertainment Evening This year the Morton Village Hall Management Committee is happy to welcome the Collingham Singers to perform a concert for our entertainment evening. Although the entertainment evening is a regular village event, on this occasion we are making it a fundraising concert for the "Parkinson’s Society". The program’s theme is America and musical items will feature "Rag Time", Musicals, Walt Disney and includes other popular and classical music. The Collingham singers, a Nottinghamshire choir, are in their 21st season and this will be their 5th visit to Morton. Originally formed from members of the Collingham Church Choir for a one-off concert in 1996, due to sell outs they had to put on additional performances of their first event which was a Gilbert & Sullivan concert. Over the years the choir has been asked to perform in many churches, halls and theatres. In the process they have raised many hundreds of pounds for their named charities. The choir is now 30 strong. The concert on Friday May 6th starts at 7.30 p.m. with a mid-interval break where refreshments of wine or fruit juice are served. Tickets are available in advance at £6.00 which includes a glass of wine/fruit juice. Ticket contacts: Jenny Emery on 01427 616890; Lu Middleton on 01427 613998; Geoff Hopkinson on 01427 811167 or Phil Robinson on 01427 610130. Tickets are also available at the door on the evening subject to availability at £7.00.

Street Life All households in the area received a leaflet suggesting they join the new social website called ‘Street Life’. It is well worth taking a look at it, it is aimed at local communities to help people link up with other people in their neighbourhood. It can cover local events, lost and found, wanted and giveaways, special offers, general information, chats and anything else you might want to use it for. Please look out for notices about local events at the Village Hall, Church and Gainsborough in Streetlife, as well as in this Magazine. Streetlife.com

MORTON VILLAGE HALL AND THE 10k RUN Morton Village Hall committee were pleased to be involved with the recent Gainsborough and Morton 10k run for the third year. The run now uses the Village Hall as it's headquarters, which despite being a logistical nightmare for the run organisers having to accommodate 750 runners, it works very well. An excellent selection of 350 cakes, flapjacks and sausage rolls were provided by members of the Village Hall committee, also with donations from a few individuals. Many thanks to everyone who put their baking skills to good use! Tea, coffee, hot chocolate and soft drinks were dispensed as fast as possible to the spectators while they waited for the runners to complete the course. Luckily there were enough refreshments left for the hungry athletes when they came in! The banners advertising the refreshments were kindly provided by Elite Signs, many thanks to them too, so everyone knew where they could find a drink and a bite to eat. This year the profits were shared between the Village Hall and Sport Relief. The weather was very kind again this year and spectators and runners were able to take advantage of the chairs outside the Hall. It all added to the atmosphere of being a friendly, relaxed, well organised event, one which the Village Hall hopes to be able to be part of in future years. It's an asset to the village of Morton and of course to Gainsborough.
