Mobile phones are being stolen so often that police have launched a special unit to deal just with mobile phone crime. New figures say that phone thefts make up nearly half of all street crime in the UK, with around 200 being taken everyday in England and Wales.
Children using mobile phones near school are thought to be more vulnerable because in some areas thieves are waiting outside school gates. Police think organised gangs may be taking the stolen phones abroad.
The £1m National Mobile Phone Crime Unit will mean police will work with experts from immigration, Customs and Excise and industry specialists.

Do you know where the word marathon comes from?
It comes from the story of Greek hero Pheidippides, who ran the 26 miles to Athens from the Plains of Marathon to
tell of the Greek victory over the Persian army.

Lots of the words we use in English come
from Greek and Latin.
We don't use the whole word, just part of it, as a prefix, suffix or root.
E.g. photo = light
photography photosynthesis photocopy
