Proco Joe Moreno was inaugurated as the Alderman of Chicago’s 1st Ward on March 26, 2010. In Feburary, 2011 hewas elected to a full term, with 74% of the vote.
Joe was born in Moline, IL to working class parents. His father is Mexican and his mother comes from a long and proud line of Quad-Cities farmers. After graduating from Moline High School, Joe went onto Augustana Col-lege to study Business and Art.
Joe has been a resident of the Wicker Park neighborhood for more than 15 years, moving to the neighborhood after college. He moved to the neighborhood because of the diversity and the vibrant music and nightlife scene which was emerging, with a vengeance, during the mid-nineties.
His first elected position was a member of the Local School Council for Jose De Diego Community Academy. He also served as a board mem-ber of Humboldt Park Social Services, where he helped empower and advocate for homeless and disadvantaged people in Humboldt Park. In these two positions he developed his zeal for expanding opportunity and equity in education and giving a voice to the voiceless.
After college Joe worked at a suburban union printing company, starting at the bottom and working his way up to ultimately become Vice Presi-dent of the company. He went to school at night and earned an M.B.A. from DePaul University in 2003.
Since becoming Alderman, Joe has become known for doing a lot of DIY constituent service, including paying for snow removal, graffiti removal, vacant lot clearance and pot hole repair, out of his own pocket. Legisla-tively, he’s focused on simplifying bureaucracy, expanding opportunity and he’s passed many ordinances and resolutions, reflective of these two legislative philosophies.
Joe lives in Wicker Park with his eight year old daughter, Ava. He’s been a vegetarian for the last 19 years. He enjoys jogging the streets of Chicago’s greatest ward and plans to be the 1st Ward Alderman for a very long time

This is the reoccurring theme that rings in the musical world of Taylor
Mallory. It explains why at the young age of 23 he is penning hits with a
production team called Dupée Productions. His lyrics and songs are
being used in shows like the Style Network’s “How Do I Look” and has
been featured as an actor in various commercials.
Taylor is a multi-talented singer, songwriter and entertainer. Born into
a non-musical family from Decatur Illinois, it surprised everybody to see
a creation of their own sing and write music so well.
“Though no one in my family was musically gifted I was exposed to all
types of music by my parents. Ranging from Contemporary Gospel,
R & B, Funk, Pop to 80’s rock and classical music … at times I can be all
those things. It depends on what I’m feeling in the music.”
He has collaborated with or opened for artist like Three Piece, David
Banner, Donald Lawrence and performed at places like Schuba’s,
Manifest, The Double Door, Villains, Subterranean, Club Ontourage,
and Club Babalu in Minneapolis.
Taylor always puts 150% in whatever he is doing. Using his favorite
quote from his mentor, “It’s not what you do to your music, it’s what
you do with your music. At the end of the day it’s about inspiring lives
and making a difference in the world.”
“It’s about a love and passion for music and where it takes you. I’m at my best when I’m
not put in a box.”

It would be an honor to be a part of your child’s/teen’s healthy journey!
Gifted Souls Dance Crew evolved from a Latin dance club at Lane Tech high school. Members of the club, called Aspira, wanted to continue the camaraderie of a dance group after they graduated. They relied on the dance experience as an escape from struggles in the outside world.
G.S.D.C. was in production around the end of March 2008. Samantha Montes, president of Aspira and a salsa champion from Puerto Rico, approached Rocky Quinones, the creative services director, in March 2008 about coaching a dance group beyond high school. Samantha was the youngest member of Aspira, and her mom, Lisa, had been active in Salsa Congress. . In the months to follow, Rocky Quinones would finally put together what is now known as the Geek Squad.
It all started with this group of talented individuals from Lane Tech’s Aspira club.
He became a very tough coach, creating powerful routines and scheduling practice sessions. He tells the performers, “I don’t know what I am doing as director, but I will do my best to be a big influence in your lives. “
By the end of December 2008 it has 20 members on board.
Rocky hears many personal stories of “tough upbringings and bad stuff,” and he wants good things to happen for these dedicated young people. These are young kids—ranging in age from 11 to 21. Under Rocky’s guidance, they work hard in demanding rehearsals. Rocky chose the name Gifted Souls for what it meant to him—
The dance crew first performed as Gifted Souls in 2009. About 20 young dancers took to the stage with some powerful choreography. The rest is history. In 2010, after they raised the roof at Salsa Congress, the group performed for a TV show in New York City and traveled to Detroit, Dallas, Cincinnati, and Miami for hip-hop and salsa competitions and performances.

“The meaning of Gifted and Souls weren’t just words, they describe any talented human who does their talent
from within. I took the name and ran with it.”

Through hard work and dedication anything is possible. This is the story of a profes-sional Makeup artist here in Chicago. After 10 long years of hard work and focus, Irma Carrasquillo has achieved one of biggest goals in life. She is Co-owner and CEO of the cosmetic line Smart Chic at M.GO productions fashion salon and boutique. She specialize in fashion, beauty, and fantasy Makeup.
Irma affirms, “I knew the basics of makeup at a very young age, and by the time I was in high school, I had already knew I wanted to have a career in makeup so I went to beauty school. After beauty school, my path took me down various roads of work-salon, retail, and then back to makeup. After many years of freelancing I decided to plant my feet and I became CEO of Smart Chic cosmetics and head Makeup artist at M.GO Fashion Salon were the creativity never stops.”
As a child she clearly remembers trying to duplicate the looks on the covers of her mother’s fashion magazines onto her Barbie head dolls. She grew with a passion that eventually knew would give her the ultimate outcome in life. One common day she interviewed with M.GO Fashion Salon, luckily she was hired as the head makeup artist for the known clients there. It was then when she was given the opportunity to help create and become co-owner of the Smart Chic Cosmetic line.
Her experience as a makeup artist has given her the opportunity to work in many events. She has created looks for the Miss Illinois Beauty Pageant, and the Miss Socie-dad Civica Mexican Pageant, also, has done hair and makeup for Latino Fashion Week, and The Mo’Rockin Fashion Fest, and last but certainly not least M.GO Fashion Salon annual Spring Show.
One of the many future plans Irma has in mind is to expand the Smart Chic Cosmetic line and to eventually go global. Besides enjoying, what she does best, which is make-up, she loves sharing her knowledge with others, she is always willing to learn, and her inspirations also come from other artist that are starting just like she did. This is what makes Irma a more talented woman and a inspiration for many.
