Glenn has organized, scheduled, and directed our monthly fi re drills, fl oor cleaning, paper towel orders, and extra helpers for the Day School. Twenty-second Sunday of Ordinary TimeThe banquet scene found only in Luke provides the opportunity for these teachings of Jesus on humility and presents a setting to display Luke’s interest in Jesus’ attitude toward the rich and the poor.

The parable of the great dinner is a further illustration of the rejection by Israel, God’s chosen people, of Jesus’ invitation to share in the banquet in the kingdom and the extension of the invitation to other Jews whose identification as the poor, crippled, blind, and lame classifies them among those who recognize their need for salvation, and to Gentiles. (USCCB)

Please join us on September 22 as we start the “Genesis to Jesus” program between the Masses and on Monday nights. 30 minutes and ALL are welcome to attend.

It is Not Too Late to Join Us!

For September, please read chapters 1-6. Please join us in September. All are welcome!

Women’s Scripture Circle will be off for the summer months and will resume the fourth Wednesday of September, at 7:00 p.m. (September 25). We will be continuing our study of the Gospel of Luke, part two, using “Little Rock Scripture Study.” Don’t hesitate to join us any time.

BUILDING PROJECT UPDATE

August 31, 2019

Living Our Mission Campaign Projects:

Church and Chapel schematic design drawings are being prepared to incorporate previous design elements. The Building Committee will provide additional information in next week’s bulletin.

Kitchen Renovation has finally reached the construction phase. The contract has been awarded and equipment is being ordered by the contractor for installation in October. Some of this equipment has a manufacturing lead time, and the contractor will hold off beginning demolition until equipment delivery dates are firmed up. We expect work to begin in mid to late September. While under construction, all use of the kitchen or utensils will be curtailed. The contractor is aware of the need to move this project along as quickly as possible.

Capital Reserve Projects:

Jointly funded with the Day School, Day School Hall Security Doors and Playground Replacement Tile projects have recently been completed. The door project was phase two of a security upgrade that will enable us to control access during weekdays and for weekend/evening classes and meetings. You may have noticed the signs at the parking lot entrances about hours for unlock periods.

Sidewalk Repairs were completed on the Laurel Cove side of the building to fix a section that was being inundated from rising soil due to tree roots. Parking Lot Sealcoating and Restriping is ongoing to renew the pavement surface, parking line, and fire lane markings.

Family Room Light Replacement for the two center fixtures will take place during the Kitchen Renovation work, as the same contractor is doing both jobs.

Door Electrification will occur to 4 additional doors starting this fall: The glass door to the Columbarium, one of the glass doors to the BBQ Pit, the Kitchen door, and the rear door at the Laurel Cove end of the Church. Our plan each year is to install additional cameras and electrify additional doors to further enhance the security of our building.

Family Room Partitions will round out our Capital Reserve projects this year. Work is planned for next summer, in time for 2020 Religious Ed classes.

Additional Details will be also be posted in the Family Room in upcoming weeks.

TWENTY-SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME SEPTEMBER 1, 2019

ARE YOU CURIOUS TO LEARN MOREABOUT THE CATHOLIC FAITH?Are you an adult contemplating Baptism? Have you been baptized in another Christian faith but now fi nd yourself being led to the Catholic Church? Are you looking to complete your Sacraments of Initiation by receiving the Sacrament of Confi rmation as a baptized Catholic adult? Then RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation) is the place for you! Come with your questions to one of our Inquiry Sessions where you can meet team members and fi nd out how we can accompany you on your faith journey. Classes begin in October and are held on Sunday mornings between the Masses.

Inquiry Dates• Saturday, September 7 (after 5:30 p.m. Mass)• Sunday, September 8 (between the Masses, 9:30 a.m.)We welcome you to our “Family” and look forward to you becoming part of “Church of the Holy Family.”

For more information, contact Tiff any Watson ([email protected]).

CHILDREN’S LITURGY OF THE WORDDo you enjoy working with children? Can you give of your time during Mass? Would you like to share the Word of God with the youngest members of our parish? Can you give 20 minutes of your time on a Sunday to the children of our parish? Then CLOW is the ministry for YOU! VOTING ISSUES – INVOLVEMENT: As Catholics we should be guided more by our moral convictions than by our attachment to a political party or interest group. Catholic lay men and women need to act on the Church’s MORAL principles and become more involved: running for offi ce, working within political parties, and communicating concerns to elected offi cials.

HAITI UPDATE – SEPTEMBERWhat’s new with our sister parish

windows and doors were funded by Holy Family in June.

The Haitian Education Support Team (HEST)and Holy Family

Last month Holy Family donated $1,500 USD to the Haitian Education Support Team (HEST). The HEST trains and supports the supervisors and superintendent of schools who train the teachers in the diocese of Hinche. CREATION CARE CORNERClimate change is not only a political, social, and economic

issue, it is also, and primarily, a spiritual one! In view of that fact, an optional, new season has been added to the Church’s liturgical year along with Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Easter and Pentecost – The Season of Creation. Though new to the world-wide church, there have been some countries like Africa, Australia, and Canada, who have been celebrating this Season since around 2000.

The Season of Creation begins on September 1 (the Day of Global Prayer for Creation) and ends on October 4, the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi. Hopefully, this Season will gain more attention in our country. Pope Francis gave it recognition in 2015 when he and Patriarch Bartholomew (of the Eastern Orthodox Church) established the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, encouraging people to pray for our common home. The Vatican Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development has highlighted the importance of this Season of Creation. The theme of the Season is “Web of Life.” The theme of the Feast of St. Francis is “We Are All Connected: the Cry of the Earth, the Cry of the Poor,” focusing on environmental and climate justice.

At Holy Family Parish, we will pay tribute to our Earth when we celebrate the Feast of St. Francis on the weekend of October 5/6. This Season allows us to turn our attention to God’s relationship with all creation as well as our relationship with creation (and with God through creation).

Reasons for celebrating this season are: to become more conscious of the crisis creation is facing, because of human greed, exploitation and neglect; to empathize with those parts of creation – human and nonhuman – that are groaning because of the human crimes against them; to celebrate the Christ, whose risen presence is the cosmic power at work in reconciling and restoring creation; and fi nally, to follow this up with action. In the coming years, we will plan to provide more opportunities for our parish to pay recognition to this new liturgical Season.A few useful ideas for 2019 would be:

• Incorporating creation care into parts of our liturgies;• Off ering prayers, as individuals and/or as groups, that national

leaders will make the health of our Earth a priority; • Become more conscious of how we are contributing to
