• Tomorrow is a half day for teacher in-services. Lunch will be served.
• Anime Club will meet Tomorrow, February 3, at 7:20 in Mrs. Gregg's room.

• The Lady Chargers Basketball team play tonight in Dickson at the State
Tournament. Cheer them on as they move further into the State Championship bracket!

• This weekend the swim team finished 4th out of 71 teams at the Middle Tennessee
Championships.
• The Girls 200 Medley Relay team of Victoria Platt, Katherine Jordan, Mary Kate Sullivan,
and Marissa Maheu are the Middle TN Champions in the event. Here are the School
Records broken:
o Breaton LaLonde in the 500 Free
o Victoria Platt in the 100 Back
o Katherine Jordan in the 100 Breast
o Austin Young, Cooper Sledge, Breaton LaLonde, Colin Tindall in the 200 Free

• Also this weekend Wrestling had 2 tournaments. Graham Keating took 3rd in the Top
100 tournament. And in the Battle of the Boro Tournament Owen Kate took 1st, Kylan
Spencer took 1st, Phillip laungphay 2nd Brayden Bouma took 1st all in there weight
classes.

• This weekend our swimmers traveled to Baylor in Chattanooga and placed 4th out of 30
teams in the Southeastern Swim Championship, our highest finish ever at this meet. We
scored points in 19 out of 22 events and had 3 first place finishes.
New School Records:
o Marissa Maheu broke the records for the 200 IM with a 1st Place Finish and 500
Free with a 1st Place Finish
o Victoria Platt- broke the record for the 100 Free and 100 Back
o Colin Tindall broke the record for the 100 Fly
o Victoria Platt, Ali Hawkins, Mary Kate Sullivan, and Marissa Maheu broke the
record for 400 Free Relay Team the with a 1st Place Finish

• 7th grade Oakland Champions represented at MTSU's, MLK Celebration last night!!!
Ms. Askew would like to congratulate the winners of the MLK Oratorical Contest,
Abigail Childs and Serenity Sneed. Both 7th grade girls read their poems at the Martin
Luther King Celebration last night in front of college students and did a phenomenal
job!!!! They received medals and a certificate. Please share in the Oakland pride, by
congratulating the winners Abigail Childs, Serenity Sneed, and all the students that
provided entries.
• FCA pictures can be taken this Saturday, here at OMS from 8-12. This day is for students
who would like a headshot. You may come anytime between 8-12.
• Group pictures are Tuesday, January 31.

important expectations for the rest of the semester and the upcoming school year.
Please have your parents pick up promptly in the back of the school at 4 pm.
• The Coming Home game is tonight. Make time to see our chargers take on Mt. Juliet and
all of the Coming Home festivities.

receive a poster from the book fair.

selling hot chocolate and donuts at lunch).

• Students can purchase tickets to the OMS Variety Show that will be on Friday morning,
December 16. It is an AWESOME show, you DON'T want to miss! Tickets will be $2 each
and they can be purchased at lunch. Arm bands will be issued to anyone buying a ticket
on Friday morning. You MUST get your ticket during lunch there will not be any
additional tickets sold on Friday morning. Remember tickets are only $2!
• Pay your lunch fines before school is out for break!!!
• Lost and found will be PURGED and taken to goodwill after Friday of this week. If you
have lost something, go check it out.

• Basketball’s next home game has been moved to Wednesday, Dec. 7th against Central
Magnet. Come out and support the Chargers and lady chargers on their own court in
this conference game.

area assisted living centers is here! Please remember to bring your Christmas mugs,
boxes of hot cocoa and boxes of candy canes to Mrs. Hopkins room or Mr. Tilley’s room
by Tuesday, December 13, 2016. We will stay after school and assemble the mugs after
school Wednesday, December 14th in the library. Last year we made 280 mugs filled
with hot cocoa and candy canes to deliver. Let's beat that record and make this the
most successful year to "Mug the Elderly!

• Our mock election was held last week and the votes are in. Out of 1105 students at our
school only 610 legitimate ballots were submitted which means approximately 55% of
our students voted.
o Trump received 351 votes--57.5% of votes
o Clinton received 259 votes--42.5% of votes
o Gary Johnson was not on the ballot…..
• The Lady Chargers basketball finished 2nd in the Rockvale Tournament this past
weekend.
• The Chargers and Lady Chargers will travel to Mt. Juliet on Thursday. Girls start at 6 and

won their singles matches to lead the girls tennis team past Christiana 3 – 2.
• The Boys tennis team remains undefeated with a 5-0 victory over Christiana. Spencer
Winterbottom and Boston Smith remain undefeated at doubles.
• The Football team beat Rock Springs 16 – 8 to complete their season with 5 wins and 3
losses.

place and Maya Lakes took 13th place. Out of 20 teams, our Boys finished 4th. Thomas Pritchett
took 15th place and Stefan Bullard took 16th place. The doubles team of Spencer
Winterbottom and Boston Smith led the comeback win over Siegel. The single players Haynes
Hutchins, Eli Oliver and Jacob Ginn paced the shutout of Rockvale.
The girl’s soccer team has their next home game this Thursday night. Kickoff starts at 4:00.
The next Volleyball game is also this Thursday night. Come out and support your lady
Chargers.The game starts at 4:30.

*Tues., Aug. 23rd is our next home football game. We will be hosting Stewarts Creek. There will
be another tailgate @ 4:30pm before the game.
*Picture day is Aug. 24th. These are the photos that will be in the yearbook. Please dress
accordingly.
*There will be an archery parent/student interest meeting on Aug. 25th @ 5p in the cafeteria.
*There will be a Beta meeting on Wed., Aug. 31st in Hopkins’ rm 804 from 3:15-4pm. Please be
sure your ride is here by 4.
*8th grade pep band shirt orders/money due ASAP.
*Choir and band are still accepting new students. See Mr. Hudson in the choir room or Mr.
Kinney in the band room for more information.
*Students who are wearing OMS clothes because they were out of dress code need to come to
the front office at 3p to change back into their own clothes.
*Students who return their Parents of Chargers form and the $5 to their 1st pd teacher will
receive a tootsie pop.

*Tardies will begin counting today. You will get a step for each tardy. Please be on time to class!
*There will be no R&E until next Mon, Aug. 22nd. However, there will be a 6th grade class
meeting in the auditorium on Tues., a 7th grade class meeting in the auditorium on Wed., and
an 8th grade class meeting in the auditorium on Thurs.
*Cross country tryouts will be held tomorrow, Aug. 16th after school from 3:30-4:30pm. Please
have clothes to try out in and bring a bottle of water. You must have all athletic paperwork and
an up-to-date physical to try out. Be dressed and ready to try out BY 3:30!
*Please come out and cheer on our girls soccer team tomorrow afternoon at 4pm at LaVergne
Middle.
*There will be a swim interest meeting at 4pm on Thurs., Aug. 18th in the OMS library. Boys
tryouts will be Tues., Aug. 23rd and girls tryouts will be Wed., Aug. 24th. Both will be held @ 5pm
at the OHS pool on their respective dates.
*Our open house will be this Thurs., Aug. 18th from 6-7:30pm. We will start in 1st period.
