• Pageturners Book club will meet Wednesday, Feb. 1st at 7:15 in the Library.

• This weekend the swim team finished 4th out of 71 teams at the Middle Tennessee

Championships.

• The Girls 200 Medley Relay team of Victoria Platt, Katherine Jordan, Mary Kate Sullivan,

and Marissa Maheu are the Middle TN Champions in the event. Here are the School

Records broken:

o Breaton LaLonde in the 500 Free

o Victoria Platt in the 100 Back

o Katherine Jordan in the 100 Breast

o Austin Young, Cooper Sledge, Breaton LaLonde, Colin Tindall in the 200 Free

Relay

o Victoria Platt, Katherine Jordan, Mary Kate Sullivan, Marissa Maheu in the 200

Medley Relay

• Also this weekend Wrestling had 2 tournaments. Graham Keating took 3rd in the Top

100 tournament. And in the Battle of the Boro Tournament Owen Kate took 1st, Kylan

Spencer took 1st, Phillip laungphay 2nd Brayden Bouma took 1st all in there weight

classes.

• This weekend our swimmers traveled to Baylor in Chattanooga and placed 4th out of 30

teams in the Southeastern Swim Championship, our highest finish ever at this meet. We

scored points in 19 out of 22 events and had 3 first place finishes.

New School Records:

o Marissa Maheu broke the records for the 200 IM with a 1st Place Finish and 500

Free with a 1st Place Finish

o Victoria Platt- broke the record for the 100 Free and 100 Back

o Colin Tindall broke the record for the 100 Fly

o Victoria Platt, Ali Hawkins, Mary Kate Sullivan, and Marissa Maheu broke the

record for 400 Free Relay Team the with a 1st Place Finish

• 7th grade Oakland Champions represented at MTSU's, MLK Celebration last night!!!

Ms. Askew would like to congratulate the winners of the MLK Oratorical Contest,

Abigail Childs and Serenity Sneed. Both 7th grade girls read their poems at the Martin

Luther King Celebration last night in front of college students and did a phenomenal

job!!!! They received medals and a certificate. Please share in the Oakland pride, by

congratulating the winners Abigail Childs, Serenity Sneed, and all the students that

provided entries.

• FCA pictures can be taken this Saturday, here at OMS from 8-12. This day is for students

who would like a headshot. You may come anytime between 8-12.

• Group pictures are Tuesday, January 31.

4:00. This meeting is MANDATORY for all BETA members. We will be discussing

important expectations for the rest of the semester and the upcoming school year.

Please have your parents pick up promptly in the back of the school at 4 pm.

• The Coming Home game is tonight. Make time to see our chargers take on Mt. Juliet and

all of the Coming Home festivities.

• The 2017 Disc Golf season is about to begin. An interest meeting will be on January 28,

Rutherford County. Until January 13th the library will be accepting gently used or new

books. The top 2 students and one top teacher, that bring the most books, will be given

a $25 shopping spree at the Book fair that will run Jan. 19th-27th. The top 10 donors will

receive a poster from the book fair.

• Tomorrow, January 13 - everyone wear pajamas (school appropriate of course) - STUCO

selling hot chocolate and donuts at lunch).

• Tuesday, January 17 - everyone wear OMS colors and then come to the basketball game

to see the game and Coming Home celebration.

that will be performing a variety of music from many different genres and time periods.

That’s over an hour of fantastic music! They are using this event as a fundraiser for the

choir. There is a gate fee of two dollars for everyone over the age of 5.

• Students can purchase tickets to the OMS Variety Show that will be on Friday morning,

December 16. It is an AWESOME show, you DON'T want to miss! Tickets will be $2 each

and they can be purchased at lunch. Arm bands will be issued to anyone buying a ticket

on Friday morning. You MUST get your ticket during lunch there will not be any

additional tickets sold on Friday morning. Remember tickets are only $2!

• Pay your lunch fines before school is out for break!!!

• Lost and found will be PURGED and taken to goodwill after Friday of this week. If you

have lost something, go check it out.

Possibility Place Christmas Shop. This is a shop where adults with intellectual disabilities

can purchase gifts for family and friends, as well as supplies they need. Each morning

there will be a Red Bin placed in the front foyer and back by the buses for you to drop

off your items.

• From December the 5-8 the OMS Cheerleading team will be collecting items for

Possibility Place Christmas Shop. This is a shop where adults with intellectual disabilities

can purchase gifts for family and friends, as well as supplies they need. Each morning

there will be a Red Bin placed in the front foyer and back by the buses for you to drop

The following is needed:

o New gifts for women such as jewelry, perfume, body sprays, lotions, gift sets,

gloves, scarves, hats, candles makeup, and nail polish

o New gifts for men such as body sprays, gift sets, gloves/scarves/hats, tool

sets, and sports paraphernalia

o New gifts for teens and children like gift sets, toys, video games, crafts, books,

board games, stuffed animals, and 100 piece puzzles.

o Also: hygiene items (body wash sets), popular music CD's, gift cards, candy,

snacks, and keychains.

• Basketball’s next home game has been moved to Wednesday, Dec. 7th against Central

Magnet. Come out and support the Chargers and lady chargers on their own court in

this conference game.

• Here are some wrestling highlights from this weekend’s tournament. In their weight

classes, Graham Keating took second, Jared Hepborn took 3rd, Isaiah Moore took 3rd,

Nathanial Grey took 3rd,Elijah Moore took 4th and Max Lovinski also took 4th

• From December the 5-8 the OMS Cheerleading team will be collecting items for

Possibility Place Christmas Shop. This is a shop where adults with intellectual disabilities

can purchase gifts for family and friends, as well as supplies they need. Each morning

• Our mock election was held last week and the votes are in. Out of 1105 students at our

school only 610 legitimate ballots were submitted which means approximately 55% of

our students voted.

o Trump received 351 votes--57.5% of votes

o Clinton received 259 votes--42.5% of votes

o Gary Johnson was not on the ballot…..

• The Lady Chargers basketball finished 2nd in the Rockvale Tournament this past

weekend.

• The Chargers and Lady Chargers will travel to Mt. Juliet on Thursday. Girls start at 6 and

• The boys’ tennis team defeated Blackman 5-0 and Middle Tennessee Christian 4-1. With

these 2 wins, the team upped their record to 7-1 and finished 2nd place in league play.

• At 10:00 am we will announce for all students to report to the gym for the Payoff Pep

• During fourth and fifth period each grade level will eat lunch in mass. Your teachers

have your lunch times. If you would like to participate in Grub Hub exit out the doors

beside the gym when you come down to the cafeteria. Once you exit the doors to go to

Grub Hub you cannot come back in. Please make sure that you understand this. If you

do not plan to participate in Grub Hub you will eat lunch in the cafeteria like normal.

• After the pep rally ends at 10:45 am you will follow your normal schedule for the

remainder of the day with the exception of your lunch time changing slightly. Please

TN. Both JV teams placed top 5. Jessie Thepsauvon, McCall Coleman, and Sydney King

won their singles matches to lead the girls tennis team past Christiana 3 – 2.

• The Boys tennis team remains undefeated with a 5-0 victory over Christiana. Spencer

Winterbottom and Boston Smith remain undefeated at doubles.

• The Football team beat Rock Springs 16 – 8 to complete their season with 5 wins and 3

losses.

place and Maya Lakes took 13th place. Out of 20 teams, our Boys finished 4th. Thomas Pritchett

took 15th place and Stefan Bullard took 16th place. The doubles team of Spencer

Winterbottom and Boston Smith led the comeback win over Siegel. The single players Haynes

Hutchins, Eli Oliver and Jacob Ginn paced the shutout of Rockvale.

The girl’s soccer team has their next home game this Thursday night. Kickoff starts at 4:00.

The next Volleyball game is also this Thursday night. Come out and support your lady

Chargers.The game starts at 4:30.

• Girls soccer will be hosting Siegel on Saturday, September 17 at 7pm. The game will be

played at Oakland High School. It will be a great atmosphere and a fun night. We need

your support. Students and faculty come and be loud to cheer us on and bring friends

and family as well. There will be a $5 admission charge. All proceeds will go to support

Mr. Arnold and his medical expenses.

• Progress reports go home today! Please make sure and take those home to your

parents.

• Monday we will be having a school wide spirit day! We will have our first pep rally of the

school year and we want to encourage you to wear OMS colors!! Please show your

school spirit in support of all of our fall sports on Monday!

• Remember to continue cleaning up the cafeteria and your classrooms at the end of the

day. Make sure you are helping us keep the school clean.

• Remember to be on time to all of your classes including first period! If you are tardy to

school, you still receive a consequence. You must be on time!

• We are excited to see where we are in regard to magazine sales during the next turn

in date! Do not forget that the next turn in day is Monday, September 13th!!! Keep

selling those magazines!!!!

• The first meeting of Fellowship of Christian Athletes, or FCA, will be held Thursday, Sept.

8th in the library from 7:15 until 7:45. All new sixth grade students with interest and

returning students are welcome. Meetings will be held on Tuesdays and Thursday

mornings.

• The soccer team has a game tonight against Smyrna middle school across the street at

the high school, go out and support your lady chargers!

• Our fundraiser is going strong! We have a school wide goal of $60,000 which averages out

to three sales per student! We are very excited about the prizes we have set up for this

year. Get out there and Sale those Magazines.

• R and E is still going great! Just a reminder today we will be pulling for social studies and

math!! Make sure that you have each day written down in your agenda so you know where

to go.

• Please make sure if you are a returning seventh or eighth grader you bring your profile

sheet back to your first period teacher ASAP.

• Remember that if you are wanting your parent portal log in and you have not received it

that is due to not turning in your proof of residency. Please do this immediately.

• Do not forget that if you are tardy to first period you will receive a step! Make sure that you

are on time every day! Make it a priority to be on time to your classes!!!

*Siegel Stomp Out is Tues., Sept. 6th. Students who are participating will get their shirts at

check-in, beginning at 3:15pm. Students who are not but purchased a shirt will get them during

lunch that day. We will be boarding the bus at 4:45pm to go over to Siegel. Your ride needs to

pick you up at Siegel High by 7:30pm.

Smyrna @ 6:30pm.

*Both lanes will be open again for dismissal this afternoon for car riders. Two short whistles

mean you may get into your car. 1 long whistle means wait until you hear the 2 short whistles

again. This should expedite the process.

*The 1st FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) meeting will be Thurs., Sept. 8th in the library

from 7:15-7:45am. Meetings will be Tuesday and Thursday mornings thereafter. You do not

have to be an OMS athlete to attend.

*Our girls soccer team won against Christiana.

*Our football team lost 26 to 16 to Rockvale this past Tuesday.
