Craftsmen DedicatedTo Creating Structural Timber Frames

And Custom Woodwork

The MoreSun StoryIt began in 2002 as a simple one-man show when I had a dream of creating custom woodwork and timber frames. As time went on and projects grew larger, I hired skilled craftsmen to keep up with demand. MoreSun Custom Woodworking, Inc. now employs eight full-time craftsmen.

Timber framing is our primary line of work, though we gladly do other woodworking when it presents itself. Our crew has become a robust team. Our clients recognize the strong integration of personalities and abilities that each person brings to our team.

We have built our reputation on exceptional quality and customer service. Our business handles a nice mix of residential and commercial projects, and we work for architects, builders, and homeowners. We always look forward to new projects and new challenges. I’m proud of the MoreSun “family” we’ve become. Our craftsmen work long hours and possess the ability to work in all sorts of job site conditions.

Their hard work and dedication to quality have created the work within these pages.

Contemporary Timber Frame Home in Mountain Rest, South CarolinaThe solid Eastern White Pine timber frames the home and its succeeding lofts with the timber frame staircase winding through all four floors. The full timber frame structure is joined with traditional joinery methods and enclosed with structural insulated panel walls. Several live edge timbers accent this home creating a unique ambiance.

A Poplar tree from the site was used to create a post in the great room, an integral part of the timber frame.

A second Poplar tree was utilized as a beam and focal point on the staircase.

Atlanta Athletic ClubThis stately timber frame pavilion stands proud at the Atlanta Athletic Club’s pool in Johns Creek, Georgia. The Eastern White Pine and Cypress timbers frame a spacious shaded area where families enjoy the Club’s restaurant while spending a day at the pool. The king and queen post trusses frame the roof with three large dormer entrances providing quick access to the pool’s edge. A timber framed pergola adjacent to the pavilion offers shelter for grilling.

Jawbone Cabin

Jawbone is a vacation rental cabin for the whitewater outfitter Wildwater Ltd. located in Long Creek, South Carolina. The hybrid conventional and timber frame construction is built with Cypress timbers outside, a White Pine post and Red Oak staircase inside, both from trees harvested on site. The spacious porch is framed by a large hammer beam truss.

The Founders Chapel

The Founders Chapel was built for Perimeter Presbyterian Church in Johns Creek, Georgia. It serves as an auxiliary space for the congregation to gather in an intimate outdoor setting for marriage ceremonies and worship. The frame is solid Oak, mortise and tenon joined, and boasts stout king post trusses to frame the roof. The bell tower cupola is also timber framed and houses a hand crafted bell from Annecy, France.

Corkscrew CabinCorkscrew Cabin is a hybrid contemporary design, with an angled plan and several lofts supported by structural timber. The timber frame is a mix of species - Eastern White Pine and Poplar. The Poplar trees used were felled from the site providing several large beams and two structural “live edge" posts in the home. The gem of Corkscrew is the spiral staircase which snakes its way to the third story loft.

Lakefront Home

The barrel vaulted ceiling built in this lakefront home in Georgia was created with custom glulam timber frame trusses. The Douglas Fir trusses span the home’s main level, from the carport through the open concept kitchen and great room. The curved theme finishes on the half dome porch overlooking the lake. Open timber framed staircases continue the airy feel of the home.
