hyperMILL® Version 2012 provides a range of new and updated functions that makes this application even faster, better and more powerful than before. These include automated programming options for adaptive pockets and optimisations for 3D roughing, multi-blade machining and 5axis machining. CAM performance has been increased on many diff erent le-vels, from calculation through to simulation. Machining times have also been further reduced.

Page 4: More speed. More power. More quality. · movements thanks to job linking The new 2D job linking function groups together machining cycles that share the same tool into a single job

2D strategies Minimised rapid traverse and redundant movements thanks to job linking

The new 2D job linking function groups together machining cycles that share the same tool into a single job step. This includes all drilling, milling and turning processes. Transformations are expanded into individual NC blocks and checked for collisions.

➜ Advantages Job linking allows for rapid traverse and redundant movements to be minimised, thus reducing machining times even further.

Optimised clearing movements for adaptive pocket machining

The new machining cycle for creating rectangular pockets automatically identifi es the best possible clearing strategies. The optimal size relationship between tool and pocket is used to determine the use of either spiral or contour-parallel machining.

➜ Advantages The optimised clearing movements are characterised by a constant contact angle and generally take place in long, straight paths. This results in high feedrates.

Automatic feedrate adjustment for contour milling

This new 2D contour milling function optimises the fi nishing of fi llet interior corners. The software automatically detects where the contact angle increases during fi nishing and ad-justs the feedrate accordingly.

➜ Advantages Particularly in the context of corner fi lleting, machining runs more smoothly. This results in better surface quality and longer tool life.

Page 5: More speed. More power. More quality. · movements thanks to job linking The new 2D job linking function groups together machining cycles that share the same tool into a single job

3D strategies Tapered tool for 3D ISO machining

This new feature makes it possible for the fi rst time to use tapered tools in 3D ISO machining. The entire tool is checked for collisions against the model, which ensures high process reliability.

➜ Advantages Improved surface quality thanks to reduced tool vibration; longer tool life.

Scallop height and milling path optimisation for profi le fi nishing

hyperMILL® 2012 provides optimised scallop height machi-ning. Additionally, a guide curve can be projected onto the surfaces. This is evenly subdivided in reference to the specifi ed infeed, helping to prevent overly crowded milling paths on both steep and fl at surfaces of the workpiece.

➜ Advantages Shorter toolpaths and reduced machine running times. Improved surface quality even in the case of abrupt transitions.

Optimised 3D roughing (I): Continuous ramp

Ramps can now be moved continuously in the same direction. As this avoids zigzag movements, pockets can be cleared evenly from the outside in.

➜ Advantages Optimised toolpaths.

Improved scallop height machining ensures optimal path distribution for 3D profi le fi nishing.

Infeed along a guide curve si-gnifi cantly improves the surface quality.

Page 6: More speed. More power. More quality. · movements thanks to job linking The new 2D job linking function groups together machining cycles that share the same tool into a single job

3D strategies Optimised 3D roughing (II): Intermediate steps

The new intermediate steps function allows users to defi ne the best possible in-between steps for 3D roughing. The in-termediate steps function, which is taken from a hyperMAXX® strategy, starts with a large axial infeed and then removes the residual stock in steps from the bottom up.

➜ Advantages This is an ideal strategy for high-performance cutting, as it achieves a consistent stock allowance despite large main infeeds.

Optimised 3D roughing (III): Minimal removal

In Version 2012, residual stock areas can be trimmed even better during 3D roughing. Small areas with very little residual stock are no longer included in the mill path calculation. Defl ection caused by collision avoidance is reduced through creating contiguous milling areas.

➜ Advantages Consistent stock allowance and reduced machining time.

Optimised 3D roughing (IV): Improved performance

With hyperMILL® 2012, 3D roughing performance has been improved even further. Calculations for collision avoidance, as well as stock tracking, are now substantially faster.

➜ Advantages Signifi cantly faster calculations even for complex workpieces and strategies.

as well as stock tracking, are now substantially faster.

➜ Advantages complex workpieces and strategies.

Prevention of unnecessary traverse movements on wall surfaces through the trimming of unneeded side areas. Additionally, contiguous areas are included automatically in pocket fl oor machining.

Page 7: More speed. More power. More quality. · movements thanks to job linking The new 2D job linking function groups together machining cycles that share the same tool into a single job

Contour off set roughing simplifi ed even further

This 5axis strategy off ers automation for precisely calcula-ting the tool orientation. This means that workpieces with a consistent off set can be machined in their entirety. As a new addition, the defi nition of machining areas can now also in-clude boundaries. hyperMILL® 2012 furthermore permits axial sorting and area-by-area division of your machining jobs.

➜ Advantages Easier programming of complex geometries. Faster defi nition of milling areas. Less redundant movements and shorter machining cycles.

5axis machining

With this function, curved surfaces can be machined with a consistent off set.

Page 8: More speed. More power. More quality. · movements thanks to job linking The new 2D job linking function groups together machining cycles that share the same tool into a single job

Special applications Extended pocket split in the 5axis multiblade package

With multiblade roughing and fl oor machining, you can now divide the area between the splitter blade and main blade into left and right pockets, and machine these separately. Being able to divide an exclusion area signifi cantly facilitates the choice of tool sizes. Another feature: If the surfaces allow, the fl ank mode derives ruled surfaces from the existing blade geometry during multiblade roughing. A consistent off set of the blades is achieved through swarf cutting.

➜ Advantages In many cases, time-consuming semi-fi nishing can be avoided. This signifi cantly shortens the machining time required for the workpiece.

Milling/turning strategies Inclined grooving and cranked tools

hyperMILL® 2012 supports inclined grooving for turning jobs. The tool database has been expanded to include cranked recessing tools.

➜ Advantages Easy programming of inclined grooves with the option of using cranked tools.

Improved process reliability through feedback during interior turning

The mirrored feedback during interior turning improves pro-cess reliability. The function informs the user about possible collisions that can be caused by a wrongly positioned clea-rance plane or by tools that are too big.

➜ Advantages Simple and fast visual control of the machining job.

Page 10: More speed. More power. More quality. · movements thanks to job linking The new 2D job linking function groups together machining cycles that share the same tool into a single job

Post-processors and simulation Better analyses with hyperVIEW®

In hyperMILL® 2012, the diff erent feedrates can be depicted visually for easier analysis. This is especially interesting for NC programs that were calculated using hyperMAXX®, OPEN MIND‘s strategy for high-performance roughing.

➜ Advantages Greater machining transparency right from the programming stage.

NCSIMUL expands your simulation options

Version 2012 off ers direct integration of NCSIMUL, the well-known machine simulation for testing, optimizing and execu-ting NC programs.

➜ Advantages When integrated directly, NCSIMUL is also able to map the functionalities of hyperMILL® millTURN.

CAD integrations Integration with Autodesk Inventor and SolidWorks®

hyperMILL® 2012 supports Autodesk Inventor as of Version 2013, and SolidWorks® up to the current Version 2012. These CAD developers have certifi ed that hyperMILL® complies with all their strict requirements for integration, reliability and user-friendliness.

➜ Advantages Perfect data associativity and CAM integration right in the user interface of your chosen CAD solution.

➜ hyperCAD®-S: The upcoming CAD platform for hyperMILL® 2013

Working with CAM systems relies on the availability of specifi c CAD functionalities. Because of this, hyperMILL® either ships with its own CAD platform, or it needs to be integrated into a third-party CAD system. Open Mind is currently developing a CAD kernel which is specifi cally designed for hyperMILL®: hyperCAD®-S is a high-performance CAM package that is based on our many years of expertise with integrating CAD functions.

➜ Main functions at a glance:■ High-performance software for

large data models and multiple calculations based on a 64-bit operating system, multi-threa-ding and multiple document interface (MDI)

■ Special CAM objects in the CAD kernel (toolpaths, display graphics, etc.) available for further commands

■ Multiple area fi lter: Selection by colour or layer as well as by geometric, system or user-defi ned properties

■ Workplanes can be saved, including transformation and rotation data, and can be directly selected as references for moving/copying
