Members

All Labour Party members in Monmouthshire (and some parts of Torfaen and Newport East) have the right to participate in the local Labour Party.

Registered Supporters are able to participate but cannot vote at meetings etc.

Most Labour Party bodies have Officers & Executive Committees (ECs) who are charged with running that body between meetings.

Wards

All members are part of a ward. Most wards have about 1,500 voters and elect one Councillor to Monmouthshire County Council (MCC) with 4 wards in the Torfaen Council area.

Wards do not contain enough members to meet on their own.

Members in a ward do however have a say in who stands for election as a local councillor every four years.

Branches

Wards are grouped together in branches usually containing several wards.

Most meet 6 or 12 times a year and all members in that patch are welcome to attend.

Branches discuss and agree local policies and campaigns to promote the Labour Party.

They are the heart of the Party and play an essential role in campaigning.

Monmouth CLP

Monmouth Constituency Labour Party (CLP) is the overarching body for Labour members in the Monmouth Constituency and all members may attend meetings (Called GC’s for General Committee) which happen every other month in Usk. It is made up of most of the wards in MCC and some from Torfaen Council, but does not include any members in the Severnside part of Newport East CLP. It deals with all party, policy, and campaigning matters except those relating to local government and deals with elections for MEPs, MPs, AMs etc.

Monmouth LCF

The Monmouthshire Local Campaigning Forum (LCF) deals with all local government matters relating to MCC including the election of Councillors and liaison with the Labour Group on MCC. All members of the Labour Party who live in Monmouthshire may attend, including those who are part of the Severnside part of Newport East CLP, but not those in the Torfaen Council area. The LCF meets as required. There is inevitable crossover between the CLP and the LCF and both bodies work closely together.

• WE ARE ODD, (1%), TALKING TO OURSELVES DOES NOT CHANGE ANYTHING.

• You live in the: Healthiest, Wealthiest , Longest Lived, Best Educated, Best Housed, Area of Wales.

• In Abergavenny, Monmouth, Torfaen, Caldicot, Chepstow, and some rural areas there are significant numbers of people suffering multiple deprivation and poverty.

• We want a Labour administration. • They need one.• It is our job to make that happen.
