In addition, we host an annual Kick the Streets Martial Arts Tournament The team competed in Louisville, Kentucky and were selected for a place on the US World Team to represent the United States in Spain October 25, 2009 thru November 3, 2009 and 2013 Indianapolis Indiana. Team wins 1st and Grands

Thompson’s Karate Foundation’s traveling competition team

“”Team TKF, GNG’s, & BNB’s” consist of twenty-five - thirty

students in Illinois ranging from 4 years old to 64 years old.

Students train three days a week in forms, weapons and Kumi-

te for competition.

Thompson’s Karate Academy Foundation, NFP (TKF) offers

positive alternative solutions to children and adults of all ages

and academic scholarships. Our program is built upon the

philosophy of faith, family, friendships, community & volun-

teerism. We offer after school tutoring, self-defense classes,

forms, Kabudo and sparring. Participatents also have the

opportunity to travel around the United States, develop

leadership skills and

lasting national and

international friendships.

Most importantly, our pro-

gram promotes higher edu-

cation and assist students

with college applications,

scholarship applications and travel to visit colleges. We have

a 100% graduation rates with students attending college after

high school.

We also host the

Boyz-N-Belts All Male

Dr. Thompson began training in 1976 under Mr. Victor

Hayes in the Shotokan System. In 1984 she advanced her

training under the directions of G.M. Otis Baker, 10th Dan

and G.M. Prestonv Baker, 10th Dan, G.M. Larry C. Tankson,

Master Burley Wagner (Kankakee) and Master Joe Pina

(Boston). In 1996 Dr. Thompson studied karate and Kendo

in Nakajo, Japan where she re-

ceived the rank of first degree

black belt in the Art of Kendo.

Other martial artist who were in-

strumental in her development

include: Master Earnestine Mor-

gan, Master Peggy and Ozzie

Mitchell, Master Harold Burrage,

Master Jennifer Hampton, Master

Ben Peacock and Master Al Camp-

bell.

In her efforts to maintain the tradition of the martial arts ,

Dr. Thompson founded the Sho Do Ryu System which inte-

grates the Shotokan, Shorei Ryu , Shorei Goju Ryu Japanese

and Tae Kwon Do Systems.

Dr. Thompson has travel and competed in the United

States for over thirty-five years, and remains one of the top

competitors in forms, kumite and weapons. Recently, Dr.

Thompson was se-

lected to represent

the United States as

a member of the

World Kickboxing

and Karate Team in

Spain 2009 and

Scotland in 2010.

Sensei Jean (Jeanie) Thigpen, “Founder Kick the

Streets” Martial Arts Program and Boyz-N-Belts All Male

Martial Arts Tournament. She

has been in the martial arts

since the 1960’s. She began

her career with her son and

continued with her grandchil-

dren. In 2005, Master Jean

began studying under Dr. Cyn-

thia L. Thompson at the Harvey

YMCA. In 2008, Master Jean

was promoted to the rank of

first degree black belt in the

Sho Do Ryu and Shorei Goju Ryu Systems.

Master Thigpen is very active in the marital arts and trav-

els and coaches the Competition Team and is a certified

emergency first aid instructor and swim instructor. Kyoshi

Jean, is the fundraiser chairperson, schedules all tourna-

ments and host the “Boyz-N-Belts” All Male martial arts

tournament. She coordinates all fundraising activities and

works collaboratively with the com-

munity to bring resources to our

program .

gram affords underprivileged chil-

dren and adults free martial arts

training that builds self-discipline,

self-confidence, and self-motivation.

Students

are required to participate in all

fundraising activities and per-

form academically in school.
