Parent Newsletter Monday 2 nd March 2020. PTFA Will this be the last Valentines Disco? Our thanks to the school staff members who organised the Valentines Disco. Sixty-two tickets were sold in the infant school and one hundred and fifty-three to the Junior School. The children has a lot of fun, having their faces painted and having tattoos put on their hands whilst also enjoying the music and having a dance. This would not be possible without the efforts of a few adults made up mostly of staff, and two parents. It is a real shame that this could be the last such event for your child if we do not get more parents supporting. The Parents, Teacher and Friends Association is just that Parents ????? Teachers and Friends??? All we are asking is for representatives from each of the groups to give up a little of their time to support and arrange these events. If these fun events are to continue we really do need more parents involved. Ideally it should be run by the parents as their way of showing support to their child’s school. The aim is to bring school communities together for social events as well as raising money for the school to support projects which will benefit all of our children. All we are asking is for more parents to come along and help at the various events by running stalls, offering refreshments and helping with the preparation before the events. We are not asking for parents to attend lots of meetings and to be present at every event. What we need is parents and friends to be signed up, who are able to offer a little time at one or other of the events and give a little time to support with the pre-event arrangements. So come on parents sign up at the office and let Mrs. Savva know what you can offer and when, we need your support otherwise your children will lose out and there will be no school PTFA from September 2020!

Parintii, Profesorii si Asociatia Prietenilor, doar atat : PARINTI???? PROFESORI????

Attendance. This half term a number of parents will receive updates on their child’s attendance, particularly if it is falling below the threshold of 95 – 90%. Where attendance has not improved since our last communication – meeting are being arranged with the Harrow Council School Attendance liaison officer to which parents will be expected to attend. Regular school attendance is a legal parental duty in British law and schools also have a safeguarding duty to monitor and challenge issues with school attendance. Therefore I would like to remind parents that school attendance continues to be a strong focus for the school. It is an expectation that parents/carers should be doing all they can to ensure that necessary learning is not missed due to avoidable school absence. A healthy life style and good hygiene can go some way to supporting this! Please be reminded of the timings of the school day: It is important to ensure that children attend school regularly and equally importantly on time – NOT LATE!!!! Nursery a.m. session: 8.45 – 11.45 a.m. Nursery p.m. session: 12.45 – 3.45 p.m. Reception gates open at 8.40 a.m. and lock for 8.50 a.m. The school day ends at 3.15 p.m. Door open at 8.40 a.m. so parents have time to walk around to drop off any older children. The register is taken promptly at 8.50 a.m. arrival after that time will be coded as late. Year 1 & 2: 8.50 – 3.20 p.m. Attendance highlights from the autumn term. A reminder that each school term ends at 2.15 p.m. Friday 3rd April & Friday 17th July 2020. These are also Non-uniform days and the children donate £1 to the school for the privilege of coming to school in their own clothes. All the money raised is used to subsidise school events and support school projects. This this year we are trying to raise money to subsidise the mental health and well-being support offered by the Harrow Counselling Partnership. School Travel Plan As an accredited GOLD travel plan school we continue to promote WOW – Walk on Wednesday encouraging every child/family to walk or park away from the school and walk to school at least every Wednesday. Congratulations to Jaguar Class who achieved the most WOW badges for the month of February 2020. Complaints from residents continue – with parents obstructing their drive ways so that they cannot get in or out. We have written to the local ward counsellors and requested that the roads around the school become pedestrianised for 30 minutes before the start and at the end of the school day so that no vehicles will be allowed to enter or leave during those times. We wait to hear from the Council! We have had two incidences where parents/children have been hit by a moving vehicle outside the school, we want to ensure this does not occur again. Our children have a right to be safe!

Harrow Schools Counselling Partnership

Children’s Mental Health Week 2020 A huge thank you to those of you who were able to join us for Children’s Mental Health Week 2020. During the week the children were encouraged to think about who they can talk to when their worries feel too big. A coffee morning was also held to remind parents about how they can look after their own mental health and how they can promote good mental health in their children. Sammantha Knight is our Counselling Services Manager and she is here to support your child(ren), you and our staff. She can be contacted on 07901 000606 or by email [email protected]

The school is in the final year of a three year funded provision from the John Lyons Trust which has allowed us to employ the services of Harrow Schools Counselling Partnership to help us look after your child’s emotional health and wellbeing. The aim of the service is to provide therapeutic support and advice to children, parents and staff across the school.

Page 6: Monday 2nd March 2020....Parent Newsletter Monday 2nd March 2020. PTFA Will this be the last Valentines Disco? Our thanks to the school staff members who organised the Valentines Disco

The Space. Part of the provision is to offer a lunchtime drop-in service, called The Space, to all of the children in the school. They can come along and talk about anything that might be troubling them either on their own or with a friend. Today’s children have many concerns about friendship, peer pressure, social media, body image, SATs and transition to high school. The Space offers them a place to talk about their concerns and receive support. Please let the school know if, for some reason, you do not want your child to attend The Space. Parent’s Drop-In In addition, there will also be a confidential drop-in service for Parents. If you have any concerns about your child, need some strategies to help them at home or you need a space for yourself. The drop-in will be available on Wednesday mornings between 9.00-10.00 am. Remember our Counselling Services Manager is Sammantha Knight who is here to help you. Samantha will also be holding a parents monthly Conversation Café which was positively received by the parents who attended the last session. The next one is on Wednesday 12th February at 9 a.m. so come along for a coffee and a chat! If you would like to know more or to arrange an appointment feel free to contact Samantha by email at [email protected] or by phone on 07901-000606. REMINDER of our COMPULSARY SCHOOL UNIFORM & PE UNIFORM. A number of children during the autumn term continued to come to school not conforming to the schools uniform policy – wearing trainers or shoes with the Nike symbol or white soles and jumpers that are not grey without the school logo! Some children have been wearing jogger bottoms instead of trousers or skirts. Grey joggers are part of the nursery uniform or to be worn on Wednesdays in Years 1 and 2 as part of the PE uniform only. Please be reminded that the school takes a hard line regarding compliance with the school uniform. It is parents’ responsibility to ensure that their child is wearing the school uniform as stipulated in the school prospectus and website. On Wednesday’s we require all children in Year 1 and 2 to wear the schools PE uniform which

comprises of Grey joggers (Option of black shorts in the summer) a grey top, white t-shirt (with the school logo on it) and black trainers/plimsolls and not their own sportswear. This uniform can also be worn for PE lessons too, in line with their class timetables on days other than Wednesday. All Uniform orders can be made via parent mail and collected from the school shop. It has been noted since the start of the school term that a number of children are not wearing the appropriate school uniform and compulsory black shoes. The Junior School and feeder High Schools all expect children to come

dressed in the correct uniform so it is important to develop a discipline from the start of your child’s schooling. We thank you in advance for your support and compliance. Girls may wear Black or Grey Trousers too. White socks or grey tights Boys’ black or grey socks.

Summer dress From April - July

2020 Library Volunteers required. Have you got a little time in the day that you could spare to support us in managing our school library? We are looking for volunteers to come in for an hour or two a week or a couple of hours over the week to help maintain and support the running of our school library. The school will cover the cost of all volunteers DBS checks and provide some training on how to manage the school electronic library system. If you are interested please let the school office staff know or email your details in to [email protected] and state 2020 Library Volunteer.

After School Club.

The School shares the After School Club with the juniors which provides parents with child care from 3.30 – 5.45 p.m. Monday to Friday. It is run by Kenmore Park Schools and offers parents/carers greater flexibility. It is held in a classroom on the ground floor & in the school canteen. The provision offers parents casual child care provided your child is registered as a casual user. This means that you can phone on the day and ask for your child to attend the after school club and pay when you collect. There are a number of options too. You can select from the full session at £7.50 (3.30 – 5.45 p.m.) or a short stay at £5 (3.30 – 4.15 p.m.). As and when is also available: full session £9.00 and short stay £6.00.

We now also escort children to the After School Club if parents are late collecting their child at the end of the school day. Parents will be charged at the short stay or full day rate depending upon how late they are collecting their child beyond the end of the school day.

Therefore, it is in your best interest to collect your child on time at the end of the school day or register to be a casual user in the after school club.

Details can be obtained from the Junior School office.

Children with life threatening allergies. Please remember that there are numerous children around the school who have life threatening allergies and a common one is nuts. We would really appreciate it if you could avoid consuming nuts near your child’s school bags etc. at home, to avoid any such food items accidently making their way into the school. We really appreciate your support with this!
