On the 2nd of August, the top ten spellers from both years 3/4 and 5/6 took part in our Spelling Bee, as part of our Premiers Spelling Bee. The Premier’s Spelling Bee was introduced in 2004 as a fun and educational way for primary school students to engage in spelling. Last year the bee tested a record 170,000 students. To create an even playing field, each school can enter two students in each division to compete in the regional finals. This year’s finalists from West Wyalong public school are:

Lucy Biggam and Caleb Boneham from year 3/4

Halle Donaldson and Olivia Downey from year 5/6

These students will continue on the Regional Finals at Griffith, it will take place across NSW Monday 2 to Friday 13 September 2019. If students are successful they will move on to the finals in Sydney! Congratulations to everyone who participated in our spelling bee and our finalists.

We celebrated NSW Public Education Week last week. Our leaders, Ben and Lana were presented Directors Awards on Monday by our Director Mrs Karen Burke. Mrs Charpentier and the clarinet played for this special ceremony. On Tuesday we had our whole school celebration, starting with a special assembly where we presented awards to dedicated school and community members to recognise the contribution and commitment they demonstrate towards our school community. Nicholas Seaman and Lilly Smith were our Year 6 recipients for their commitment and integrity toward school responsibilities and leadership roles. Our hard working P & C were recognised for the many hours of hard work they have contributed towards fundraising effort. Our dedicated scripture teachers were recognised for their commitment to religious education in our school. We thank all of these people for helping our school community.
