I have a sixteen month old to keep alive and try to teach, a marriage to kindle, a house to clean and laundry to do, a handful of friends and family to try and love well... as well as a 33 week old baby boy growing inside my ever growing abdomen, slowly taking up more space physically and reminding me that soon, he too will be taking up residence in my list of those to pour into. Right now, and

in the coming years, it is crucial that I am relying on a faith that is unwavering, thriving, intimate. But how am I supposed to be growing in my faith when I have the least amount of time, and energy, than I ever have?

This question has been percolating in my heart and mind for the past year. As with everything else in my

life I have been looking for an answer that has efficiency as the banner. I need my faith to be packaged nicely, like I try to have the others things in my life. Maybe... If I were more organized, more diligent, more of everything I’m not, then maybe my faith would grow and thrive according to my expectation.

Or, maybe if I was still, sometimes, and listened to the Spirit... or maybe if I read through the Word in my spare moments instead of drown my thoughts in social media... or maybe if, when all was well, not just in my moments of desperation, I turned to my Maker... maybe if

I woke up earlier (I know, right?) to have some minutes alone to have some set apart moments to learn and hear, maybe that is when my faith would grow naturally. Sometimes when we stop striving, stop straining to produce our own fruit, and know that he is God and allow him to produce the goods, that we thrive. After all, that is what he asked us to do—even more than laundry and meal planning.
