NEW TECHNOLOGY FOR SCREENING FOR CERVICAL CANCER

•Liquid based cytology instead of conventional Pap Smear benefits in women in terms of reducing anxiety, uncertainty and the need for repeat tests.

PREVENTION OF CERVICAL CANCER

•The human papilloma virus (HPV) vaccine prevents infections with certain species of human papilloma virus associated with the development of cervical cancer, genital warts, and some less common cancers. Two HPV vaccines are currently on the market: Gardasil and Cervarix.

• There is a need to increase the vaccination coverage so that a larger percentage of the total population at risk is covered
