Competency targets (learning results)
The students gain and promote their "professional action competence". Herein, especially three facets, the so-called key competences, such as methodical competence, social competence and self-competence, are promoted. At the same time, the professional competence is deepened and extended by a deepening of subject-wise contents with regard to practical matters. Especially for foreign students, acquiring corresponding intercultural action competence is important. Conveying the following educational aims of the course of studies is expected at least: Competences: 13, 14, 15, 16, 18
Teaching contents
In the context of this module, the students complete an internship at a company. The contents of the practical stage should build forth on the students’ theoretical state of knowledge and complement the same with a view to practise. They familiarise with the elements of the work method, operational organisational structures and information flows, implications of corporate culture for the success of a company and provide in-depth insight in the economic context. The practical stage is prepared through consultations at the centre for practical contacts of the Faculty of Economics. Here, the students can also obtain cues and notes with regard to application procedures. The students choose a mentor for the internship, who acts as consultant during the internship and is able to help in case of questions and problems – together with the centre for practical contacts.

Expatriate experience / cases (intercultural case studies) / presentations
The course discusses the essential particularities of the intercultural experience abroad of managers during and after living abroad and uses the personal experiences of students following their theoretical and practical semester abroad. Here, at the hand of case studies and personal experience, the essential fields of preparing, accompanying and follow-up of foreign deployments are to be elaborated systematically from the perspective of human resource management, just as dealing with typical personal experiences such as "culture shock" and "re-entry shock". Besides introducing theoretical concepts for analysing intercultural experience and their consequence for personal interaction and communication, the course should also facilitate passing on this experience to the subsequent semesters, for their preparation of a semester abroad.
The modular exercise aims at conveying knowledge in a practical Context. Exercises and case studies are integrated during the event relevant to the students' progress. To guarantee the acquisition of competence, the described content of the module will be practised and trained. This is done in the shape of learning units uploaded via the university’s learning platform Ilias, as well as furnishing and looking after a discussion forum on the learning platform. There students' questions and discussions are followed and responded to in accordance with the learning pace.

Responsible for the module Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jürgen Westhof
Competency targets
Ability to provide technical product support, in particular planning and designing innovative products, including production planning. Based on the basic knowledge with regard to manufacturing processes, the participants know typical steps of product development and the relevant data from the point of view of an engineer; they are able to evaluate and select adequate methods and systems for that purpose. Furthermore, they are provided with the transfer and action competence required for that area of application. The following qualification targets of the course of study are conveyed: Knowledge: 1, 3 skills: 7, 9 competences: 15, 16
Teaching contents
1. Technical innovation management For a selected product, all product-related measures and activities, starting from the product idea to manufacturing shall be characterised. A distinguished product is selected, known for its characteristics and is uniqueness. It is also thinkable that a no longer used real component is examined (razors, mobile phones, irons, lawnmower,…). As far as possible, this product is divided into its components, including a sub-division into sub-components or systems, such as housing, electronics, and mechanics. The product is recorded by means of a technical drawing, customer requirements are documented. The organisation and procedures of production are described and documented in the context of a QM manual.
2. EDM PDM Product Data Management Presentation of CA technologies in various business areas, importance, methods and functions of product data management, database technologies as the foundation for a product data management system, components of EDM / PDM systems 3. Module-related exercise The modular exercise aims at conveying knowledge in a practical context. Exercises are integrated in the lecture series in accordance with the students’ learning progress.

Competency targets
The students are able to prepare their thesis work (Bachelor thesis). In particular, they able to do the following: • Identify a suitable topic and delimit the same, taking into
account the experience from the practical study period, • If required, initiate or activate suitable practice contacts,
particularly for the coordination of topics and for the organisation of framework conditions,
• Check the feasibility (data availability and resources), • Deal with academic research methods that are relevant for the
topic of the thesis. • Work out an outline providing information about problem
definition, procedure of examination, basic structure, used methods as well as target results of the thesis.
The following educational targets of the course of study are taught: Knowledge: 1 or 2, 3, 4 skills: 5, 6, 7, 8 competences: 12, 16, 20
Teaching contents
The Bachelor project aims at deepening the competences gained during the first three years of studies in terms of dealing with academic work methods and the creation of academic works and presentations. In particular, the module serves to prepare the Bachelor thesis. In the context of the Bachelor project, the process of conceptualising the concrete Bachelor thesis (the topic of which may relate to the internship, thus addressing a topical question from the practise of business administration or a freely chosen topic) should be structured and presented. In the module-related seminar and during guided self-studies, the gained knowledge is deepened – e.g. at the hand of Best-Practice or failed examples of academic work and through intensive exchange of thought regarding academic research methods.

In the context of this module, the student should demonstrate by way of authoring a Bachelor thesis that he/she is able to work on a problem independently and professionally within a given time span of nine weeks. The Bachelor thesis is written in a specialist discipline to be chosen on the part of the student. Based on a given question, the student is expected to independently structure the topic in a meaningful way and to work on it academically. Besides through self-studies, this is done in consultations with the examiner, during which the students relate and comment their chosen method as well as the work progress. The Bachelor thesis seminar should facilitate working in a structured manner and effective guidance.
