Shopping
Shopping at Marienplatz
Munich is a great city for shopping and the most glamorous area is around Marienplatz
‣ From books and toys to clothes and porcelain, the Marienplatz is a shopper’s delight
‣ It’s fun to window-shop, even if you have no plans to buy
Maximilian Street‣ The Maximilian Street
(Maximilianstraße) is one of the city's four royal avenues
‣ It starts at Max-Joseph-Platz, where the Residenz and the National Theatre are situated, and runs from east to west
‣ It was planned by King Maximilian II of Bavaria and construction began in 1850

‣ The western portion of the street is known for its galleries, designer shops, luxury boutiques, jewelry stores and one of Munich's foremost five-star hotels
‣ Dolce & Gabbana, Versace, Louis Vuitton, Dior, Chanel, Escada, Hugo Boss, Gucci, Gianfranco Ferré, Bulgari and many other famous brands have stores here
Souvenirs‣ Around the Marienplatz are
various shops that offer a variety of Bavarian souvenirs
‣ Dirndls and Lederhosen, the fine-quality (and very expensive) traditional clothing can also be purchased here
‣ This area is also an excellent place to buy contemporary and classic porcelain dinnerware and figurines
Christmas Market
‣ A Christmas market is a street market associated with the celebration of Christmas
‣ It usually runs for about four weeks around Christmas time
‣ Munich holds its traditional Christmas Market from the last week of November to December 24 on Marienplatz

‣ A huge Christmas tree covered in lights towers over the many stands all aglow with pre-Christmas magic
‣ Music to celebrate the spirit of Christmas is performed live every evening at 5:30 pm from the balcony of the Town Hall
Eating Out
‣ Munich’s cuisine is traditionally seasoned with beer
‣ Don't forget to try the most typical meal in town: Weisswurst, which is a white-coloured veal sausage

‣ Remember to peel off the skin before eating
‣ Since it is cooked and eaten fresh, it is often available only until noon
Obatzda
‣ Obatzda is a cheese delicacy
‣ It is prepared by mixing aged soft cheese with butter
‣ It is then seasoned with sweet or hot paprika powder, salt, pepper as well as a small amount of beer
‣ It is usually eaten spread on bread or pretzels
Beer Garden
‣ A beer garden (Biergarten) is an outdoor area in which beer and local food are served, typically at shared tables
‣ Common entertainments include music, songs and games
‣ Beer gardens originated in Munich in the 19th century
‣ They are usually attached to a beer hall, pub or restaurant and a traditional Biergarten allows its patrons to also bring their own food
‣ The popularity of Beer Gardens has been steadily increasing worldwide and today you can find them in Australia, Austria, Canada, Japan, Netherlands, UK and USA
‣ They are more common in Southern Germany than in other parts of the country
Nightlife
The Kultfabrik is located next to the Ostbahnhof train station. It is an exclusive party place developed in an old factory
It is home to over 20 clubs, pubs, after-hour snack bars and several concert stages

‣ Every night the Kultfabrik lures party animals from Munich and from far beyond the city gates
‣ During the day time it becomes a colourful market where craftsmen sell their wares and citizen enjoy the sports facilities
‣ It also has a child care centerA view of the Kultfabrik, during the day, when it bears an
entirely different character from its nigh time avatar
