MODEL DIARIES

Page 14: Modeliste Magazine May, 2015

WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE PART ABOUT THE PHOTO-SHOOT?My favorite part about the photo shoot was being able to work with the most amazing photographer, getting to meet the crew, and having a pool party at the hotel resort.

WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE LOOK FROM THE PHOTO-SHOOT?My favorite look was the White Bikini by A Ché

WHAT WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONAL STYLE?How I dress depends on my mood, but I truly have many different styles and if I had to pick one it would be a simple bohemian style.

HAVING BEEN ON SO MANY PHOTO-SHOOT SETS AND WORKED WITH NUMEROUS MAKEUP ARTISTS, WHAT ARE SOME TIPS YOUV’E TAKEN AWAY AND USE DAILY?The beauty tips that I have taken away from most of my photo shoots are never pluck my eyebrows, always take off makeup after work so your skin can breath, moisturize your skin every night before bed, and always keep a chapstick in reach my favorite cherry chapstick.

WHAT PRODUCT DO YOU TURN TO FOR YOUR ULTIMATE BEAUTY BOOST?For my beauty boost, my must haves are clear maybeline eye brow fix and my mac boy bait lipgloss.

WHAT IS YOUR NUMBER ONE BEAUTY SECRET?My number one beauty tip is to keep moisturized both body and hair. I love to use Moroccan oil.

WHAT FRAGRANCE ARE YOU WEARING RIGHT NOW? OR YOUR SIGNATURE FRAGRANCE?Joe Malone Orange Blossom is the fragrance I am wearing right now, but my favorite fragrance is the ANGELS ONLY EAU DE PARFUM

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR FAVORITE FASHION MOMENT?Going to the Grammy’s. I wore an amazing dress from azzedine alaia and a gorgeous pair of heels from Chanel.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST EXCITED TO WEAR FOR SPRING?I am so excited to wear Triangl Swimwear’s bathing suits.

HOW DID YOU START MODELING?I was scouted in a restaurant by Jim Jordan a famous fashion celebrity photographer and a world renowned model scout and manager. He ended up photographing me several times and signed me to White Cross Management and placed me with IMG worldwide.

WHICH FASHION DESIGNERS DO YOU MOST LOVE WEARING?I am only thirteen years old and this fashion experience is very new to me. I just bought some amazing stuff from Haut Hippie and Johnny Was, but my personal favorite is Ralph Lauren.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE GO-TO PEICE OF CLOTHING?My favorite Go-To piece of clothing is my Victoria Secret Pink sweat pants and hoodie.

HOW DO YOU KEEP IN SHAPE? HEALTH TIPS?I eat really healthy and clean, no sugar, lots of nuts and seeds, veggies, little fruit, and lots of water. For a workout at CrossFit along with Pilates and yoga.

WHAT’S THE BEST ADVICE YOU’VE EVER RECEIVED?To never hang onto un-forgiveness towards people.

WERE YOU EVER BULLIED?I was bullied all the time and made fun of. When I was much younger, I dreaded going to school because of the boys and girls that made fun of me because I had buck teeth and they called me names. Kids can be so mean.

BEFORE YOU WERE SCOUTED FOR MODELING DID YOU THINK YOU COULD BE A MODEL? I never would have thought I would be a model. When I was young I never even thought about it. I was a tom boy, I didn’t care about what I wore, and I was into sports. When I was a baby, I was so fat, I thought I was gonna die of childhood obesity. I always had that vision of myself.

SMOKE SCREEN: Secrets to the Sexiest Smokey Eye

by Niki MetzThe smokey eye has been around since the 1920’s. Back then television was black and white and actresses needed to apply a heavy amount of eye shadow and lipstick to be seen on screen. Since then, the smokey eye has evolved into so much more than just stage makeup. Once applied it defines us as sultry, mysterious, sexy and confident.

The new age of the smokey eye or the term I like to use “Effortless,” is a look that I absolutely love. The key is to not make it difficult. Skip the crease, the five eye shadows, and the cateye you all thought was necessary in order to achieve this look. Remember, the look you are achieving is lived in and effortless!

I always get asked, “Niki, how do you achieve that effortless, lived

in, smokey eye?” As the Executive Director of Artistry for Jouer Cosmetics I have the absolute honor in collaborating with the founder and Creative Director Christina Zilber. We have worked together creating all the looks for the campaigns, photoshoots and The Home Shopping Network HSN. Here I will give you some tips on how to create a signature look I absolutely love on anyone. The effortless Smokey Eye.

Page 17: Modeliste Magazine May, 2015

Apply Jouer Crème Eyeshadow Crayon in Renaissance directly onto the lid start at the base of the lash and coloring lightly back and for upward right beneath the crease. Also make sure to apply under the bottom lashline as well.

$24 www.jouercosmetics.com

123 5

Using a small/medium synthetic concealer brush (try Jouer’s Crème Brush #4) blend Renaissance Crayon and smooth out any harsh ends/corners. Remember to blend. It should finish off looking like a watercolor of shadow.

$25 www.jouercosmetics.com

With Jouer’s Eyeshadow Brush #3 dab Chocolat Eyeshadow Powder directly on top of the Crème Eyeshadow in Renaissance. Again starting at the base of the lash and blending upward. Also lightly apply under the bottom lashline (keep the eyes rounded).

$22 www.jouercosmetics.com

With your finger press and swirl into Jouer’s Longwear Mousse Eyeshadow in Dusk in order to get a decent amount onto your finger. Gently tap Dusk in the center of your upper lid. This will give depth and contrast to the look. You can also lightly dab under the bottom lashline to give more luminosity.

$30 www.jouercosmetics.com

Lastly apply 2 coats of Jouer’s Everyday Effortless Mascara in Noir. Starting at the base, wiggle the wand back and for as you brush upward. Make sure to brush your outer corner eyelashes outwards and not upwards. This will give the illusion that your lashes are longer.

Using your concealer the correct way can be the ultimate game changer for your makeup routine. Concealer has the ability to both enhance your best attributes and eliminate your flaws. Here are 4 tricks to turn you from amitour to pro in no time.

1. Foundation is not the only thing that needs a primer. One swipe of concealer to each eyelid will prime your lids to ensure your shadow is true to color and will stay put.

2. Ensure your "in trend" lipstick stays put by lining your lips first with concealer using a precision brush.

3. Look well rested by using concealer to hide the evidence of little to no sleep. Apply the concealer using a "V" shape under each eye and blend, blend, blend.

4. Enhance all the features that create a youthful appearance. Use a touch of concealer above the arch of the brow, the center of your forehead, in the creases of your nostrils, and your cupids bow. Don't forget to blend!

3 Must-Try Concealers

1. Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage. Perfect for contouring and / or illiminating any redness in your skin.

2. Clé de Peau Beauté Concealer. Time and time again this concealer wins as best over all concealer among pro makeup artists and is considered the must have beauty bag product.

3. Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer. Best for concealing under eye circles and eyelid primer.

THE #1 MULTI-TASKING MAKEUP PRODUCT: CONCEALER

Written by Brittany Chambers www.FluffBar.com

Page 20: Modeliste Magazine May, 2015

Most people have a workout bag, I have a workout makeup case. With all the traveling I do and the amount of workout bags I own, I like to put all of my beauty and portable essentials in a LeSportsac makeup case so I can quickly transport them. Unless I'm headed to a special occasion after my workout where extra products are required here are the staples that are always in the case:

LeSportsac Makeup BagI have a million makeup bags but for my workout bag I'm a LeSportsac loyalist. Their cosmetic cases are lightweight, waterproof and always come in fun, vibrant prints so they are easy to find in my travel bag. Plus it's the medium zip-up case is the perfect size to fit all of my essentials.

EOS Lip Balmthey smell great, work like a charm and the packaging makes me happy. I like to apply before and after my workout to keep my lips on point! And at $3.50 they are a steal and last forever.

EOS Hand CreamEasily the best budget hand cream and it's the perfect size for traveling. The formula is really light-weight and after an hour on the bike my hands need the recharge (plus it feels so nice to massage your hands with).Baptiste Dry ShampooA great hair refresher to clean up your sweaty scalp and add a little lift and life back into your hairdo. Plus it smells great to mask any signs of not washing your hair post-workout.Kenra Texture Powder 4

This product just may change your life (it did for me!). It gives amazing volume that lasts without being too gritty and is a flexible hold so you can style and re-style your hair without any interference. Works great on it's own or after a dry shampoo. In my case I use the Baptiste first since it’s so cheap to get me 80% of the way and then sprinkle the Kenra to add extra volume so I don’t run through my bottle too fast.

Yes to Carrots Makeup Wipes($2.99/pack of 10, $5.99/pack of 30) - Makeup wipes in your workout bag are a must. It's great to take off existing makeup pre-workout and also to clean your face and get the sweat off your pores post workout.

Twistband Hair Elastics ($7.50/pack of 3)No matter your preference in hair ties, keep a few in your workout bag. There's nothing worse then getting to gym and realizing you don't have one on hand (or yours breaks). The ribbon elastics are great since they are less damaging then normal elastics, don't cause headaches or dents or stretch out. Plus they come in so many fun prints and colors.

Secret Outlast Deodorant Clear GelIt goes on smooth without leaving marks and is an antiperspirant and deodorant. I use it before and after my workout. The clear gel makes for a nice, cooling experience after an intense workout.Perfume sampleI usually keep a fragrance samples I get from department stores in my makeup bag as the last step to refreshing my look before leaving the gym.

Pandora Jewelry BoxI own a lot of jewelry pieces from Pandora and the box that they give when you make a purchase is perfect for any bag. Find a comparable jewelry box to store your jewelry in while you work out. Otherwise in my experience it gets tangled or lost in my bag. This box is cushioned and makes me feel secure that I know where my jewelry is post-workout.

Extra SocksHaving a backup pair of clean socks has saved me so many times. Whether it's tights season or I'm wearing an awkward sock to work out it (or just want a clean pair), you would be surprised how many times this comes in handy.

Headphones I always keep a backup pair in the bag, just in case I forget my regular set. Lately, I've been using a new pair from Normal earphones, which custom 3D-prints the buds based on your ear shape for a perfect fit. Otherwise, I keep a pair of promotional cheap ones that are compact in the bag as a backup.

CHIC"It's all about the texture!", says celebrity hairstylist Gui Schoedler. And who better than a native Brazillian, (now based in Beverly Hills), to teach us a thing or two about hair texture for hot weather. He adds, "If you take a little time to lay a foundation of great texture, you can easily create styles that look effortlessly chic with minimal tools and products".

Gui takes through the steps of creating four styles, perfect for spring's heat and humidity and we pair them with fool-proof, multi-tasking make up products for easy, chic spring beauty.

All four styles are built upon Gui's "texture foundation" which is achieved with just two products and a blow dryer: l'Oreal Perfect Texture Spray, to take the hair from clean to sexy, and Oribe Texturing Spray used throughout the styling as well as in place of a finishing spray for touchable texture.

1. Rough-dry the hair, using fingers to work the l'Oreal Perfect Texture Spray into the hair, scrunching and bending the hair till dry.

2. Using a 1 1/2 inch curling iron, wrap hair no higher than mid-shaft to ends very lightly to create movement (not curl).

3. Finish with Oribe Texturizing Spray and finger toss.

This is definitely cool girl hair. With so much movement going on, keep your make up routine simple with beautiful skin and an equally cool girl lip color. Try Sephora Collection Perfection Mist to blur imperfections and control shine and Burt's Bees Lip Crayon in Hawaiin Smolder.

1. Gather hair at crown and create ponytail using a Metahooks Ponytail Hook.

2. Wrap hair around the ponytail and secure a couple large pins.

This bun is not only simple to do but perfect for the hottest of spring days. And when it's that hot who wants a face full of make up? It's time for the two-product face: use Kevyn Aucoin The Creamy Glow in Tansoleil on eyes, lips and cheeks and finish eyes with the new lash multi-tasker, Roller Lash, by Benefit.

1. Bring hair out to one side and split in half top-to-bottom.

2. Grab peice from back of each section and bring to front wrapping over each preceding peice.

3. Continue down length of hair and secure ends with a small ponytail holder. Remember to keep the braid on the tighter side, you can loosen and make messy after, if the braiding is tight.

This braid brings just the right amount of bohemian to spring dinners or cocktail parties. Keep the bohemian vibe going with beautifully nude make up like Aerin Weekday Pallete on eyes and Tom Ford Lipstick in Sable Smoke on lips.

4. Create volume thru the hair all the way to ends.

This look is your ultimate springtime red carpet moment. It's chic and dramatic, calling for equal face drama. Channel your inner JLo and break out your favorite bronzer. We love Charlotte Tilbury's Beach Stick in Ibiza and Make Up Forever's Lab Shine Diamond Collection lip gloss in D16 Beige.

The Breakthrough Anti-Aging Method For Radiant Skin with Dr. Lancer

A-list celebrities around the world flock to Dr. Lancer's chic Rodeo Drive office to have

the opportunity to experience Dr. Lancer's revolutionary skincare method. Specialized

treatments, in-depth skin analysis and evaluation and a unique treatment regimen,

Modeliste had the distinct privilege of experiencing first-hand the renowned doctor's

treatments, skincare philosophy and ultimate anti-aging advice.

Page 35: Modeliste Magazine May, 2015

IT'S ALMOST SPRINGTIME, WHAT IS THE BEST ADVICE FOR PROTECTING YOUR SKIN YET STILL BEING ABLE TO ENJOY BEACH DAYS AND SWIMMING POOL SESSIONS? If you plan on spending time in the sun, be sure to apply an SPF of at least 45 every two hours, and find a version that pairs a treatment aspect with the sun protection. I created my Sheer Fluid SPF with Gamay Grape stem cells to neutralize free radical damage while protecting skin from UVA and UVB rays. A hat and an umbrella are your second best friends.

WHAT IS YOUR ULTIMATE ANTI-AGING PHILOSOPHY FOR SKINCARE?The Lancer Skincare Method. It is a three part system I developed after 30 years of treating patients and is based on the concept of actually getting cells to act as if they are young again, speeding their cellular cycle via manual exfoliation. Many people are surprised that something so simple could make such a difference, but the proof is in the Lancer Glow. The three products, Polish, Cleanse, and Nourish, get the skin in amazing shape.

WHAT MAKES YOUR PHILOSOPHY UNIQUE IN THE INDUSTRY?Most people are shocked that The Method as a system does not contain a toner step, and that Exfoliation is recommended before cleansing. Toner isn’t necessary with these products which were formulated with Interlocking Chemistry – meaning each product leaves the skin with the proper pH to benefit from the next step, no toner required. Exfoliating first allows the Cleanser to truly sweep away and clean off lifted debris, dead skin cells, dirt and makeup. It’s an all-inclusive system that does wonders for the skin.

WHAT ARE YOUR 5 MUST-HAVE SKINCARE PRODUCTS? A high-quality SPF of at least 45, I am privy to my own Sheer Fluid SPF; Nourish, a peptide-rich moisturizer; Polish, a grainy exfoliant; Cleanse, a gentle cleanser; and my new Youth

Serum, a retinol-derivative Vitamin A serum which activates the skin’s retinoid receptors without the usual redness, dryness and irritation of retinol products. WHAT TREATMENTS DO YOU OFFER EXCLUSIVELY TO ASSIST IN ANTI-AGING REMEDIES?We have a bevy of proprietary treatments offered here at the office that aren’t available elsewhere, but currently we are most excited about two new machines in the office, the PicoWay laser, and the Venus Viva radio frequency machine. Currently, I am the only doctor in possession of the PicoWay, which is the fastest firing laser in the world. It’s ability to destroy pigment in the skin (from both tattoos and sun damage) is truly astounding. WHAT TREATMENTS DO YOU RECOMMEND TO GET THAT THAT OVERALL SEXY SPRINGTIME RADIANT GLOW? Your basic PowerPeel (microdermabrasion) on the body is the perfect way to get ready for the warmer months. The skin’s cell cycle naturally slows in the winter, leading to dull, dehydrated skin. Sloughing off that top layer allows lotions and potions to better penetrate the skin. The Lancer Body Method is also flying off the shelves here at the office and in our retailers; it’s a three part system like The Method for the face, but formulated with high levels of glycolic acid to keep skin smooth and glowing. BEST ADVICE YOU'VE EVER RECEIVED?Love what you do. BEST SKINCARE ADVICE TO GIVE MODELISTE READERS?Protection and prevention is the best anti-aging treatment in the world. Raised along side the picturesque beaches of Port Macquarie on Australia’s East Coast, Samantha Wills moved to Sydney in 2004. The same year she unveiled her debut collection at Australian Fashion Week to rave reviews. Entirely self-taught, design came as second nature to Wills who began hand-crafting pieces for her friends and family while she was still at school.

Inspired by her love of travel, many of Wills’ designs are affectionately named after her favourite destinations and adventures had along the way, while her home in New York City provides a constant source of artistic stimuli. Wills rarely leaves her apartment without a camera in hand to capture the magic of the city. Wills down to earth nature is easily spotted in her communications as a spokesperson for the brand, the designer has established a cult following, especially on digital mediums where she communicates honestly and openly with fans as she would friends, sharing personal stories from her life, in and amongst communications about the brand.

In 2011, Wills was hailed the ‘Break Out Star’ by The New York Times. Often referred to as ‘SW’ by colleagues and fans alike, Wills has been tipped by fashion writer Inez Mendoza to

be ‘Australia’s biggest export since Vegemite’. If her mass following and early success are anything to go by, the future is bright for this glamorous brand and its young namesake.

WHAT INSPIRED YOUR LATEST COLLECTIONS? We are doing a lot of FINE jewelry at the moment – it is still inspired by my main source of inspiration, the SW Woman. I love the concept of bohemian luxury. A mix of raw and polished stones with silk, wood with faceted jewels. I design this way for the SW woman - She is my muse. She is creative. She is strong. She is adventurous and marches to the beat of her own drum. Charting a life of extraordinary moments. The FINE installment is just an addition to her style, she mixes her costume and fine. I am very much about creating a full look within the brand, and then women can make their selection to interpret it in their own style.

YOU'VE RECENTLY LAUNCHED A HANDBAG AND SUNGLASSES LINE AS WELL! TELL US ABOUT THIS EXCITING NEWS! Our small clutch collection was a small capsule to incorporate our jewels into small pods. We

are planning a much bigger leather division launch soon. The eyewear is very exciting! We just did a 12 piece collection trial and it sold out within weeks, so we will be releasing a 30 piece collection in the next few months.

WHAT DID YOU SEE AS THE TOP SPRING 2015 FASHION AND ACCESSORIES TRENDS? I have always designed to remain true to my own style and the SW woman’s style, I do take trends from interiors into my designs, and in that instance it is definitely white marble and rose gold tones.

WHAT ARE AMONG YOUR FAVORITE FASHION TRENDS? I am definitely obsessed with rose gold at the moment, and white marble for sure. I love layering rings, with stones and super tiny crystals. Also ear creepers… I have two holes in my ears, but I am definitely about to go and get a few more to be able to wear more of the FINE earrings together. Just don’t tell my Dad!

WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS ONE OF THE MOST DEFINING AND PLAYFUL FASHION PIECES FOR WOMEN? I think the earrings, most of them are designed to look like you have multiple piercings, so even if you only have one ear piercing, it looks as if you have more.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU IN CREATING SOME OF THE SEASON'S HOTTEST AND MOST TREND-SETTING STYLES? Making it wearable inspires me. When I first started the brand, I was all about making special occasion pieces – which is fun to do, but now I think completely the opposite and try to make pieces that (still might be statement) but are to be worn everyday.

ANY RULES TO FASHION YOU LIVE BY? All trends don’t suit all people – the most fashionable people are those who dress to their body shape.

HOW DO YOU USE SOCIAL MEDIA TO BUILD YOUR BRAND? Social media has always been a big part of our brand. I feel I am in a very luxurious position as a designer in this day and age, being about to connect directly with our consumers, they are gracious enough to show us how they wear their SW, where they are wearing

Page 53: Modeliste Magazine May, 2015

and what they want to see from us. I use social media very honestly and very personally, and I think people resonate with that.

BEST ADVICE YOU'VE EVER RECEIVED? Work hard and be nice to people.

GREATEST SUCCESS OR ACHIEVEMENT WITH THE BRAND? When we were named as a Break Out Star by the New York Times — that was pretty surreal! Patricia Field sent us a card once, with an illustration of the 4 SATC girls on it, that said one hand in the air for the big city, thanks for making us look so pretty—that is how we found out a pair of our earrings had been selected for one of the Sex And The City Films – that was VERY surreal! But I think this biggest achievement is the incredible team we have within the brand. We truly have a team of young, dynamic, intelligent, passionate and savvy women—and I am incredibly proud of that.

STYLE ICON? I love my Mum’s style from the 1970’s – to me it is the ultimate Bohemian Luxe style. And to make it even better – she made all her own clothes!

DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONAL STYLE?I describe my style as Luxe Bohemian. I was raised

on the beach in Australia, and now I live in NYC — so it is a true fusion of the two. I mix designer items with high street, if I am doing a red carpet event, I will wear bohemian jewelry to juxtapose the luxe of the gown. . . and day to day, I usually wear FINE jewelry with black skinny leg jeans, a leather jacket and Givenchy hand bag. Its kind of like the concept of masculine meeting feminine.

3 SPRING MUST-HAVES?A Tigerlily leopard print bikini, tiny gold rings to layer, and go in search of some aqua water!

LIFE'S THEME SONG AT THE MOMENT? New Romantics, Taylor Swift 1989

WHY YOU LOVE MODELISTE MAGAZINE. It is a fresh take on fashion, it seems like if MODELISTE was a person, she would wear leather and sequins at the same time, and I like that.
