Victoria Johnson

Welcome to the 2020 Mississippi Music Teachers Association Collegiate Competitions! Whether you are a competitor, adjudicator, teacher, or audience member, I hope you have a pleasant and meaningful day. We are pleased to be at the University of Southern Mississippi this year, as we have been so many times in the past. Thank you to Dr. Jay Dean, Acting Director of the USM School of Music, and his colleagues for allowing us to use their beautiful facilities. We are most grateful to Dr. Jackie McIlwain, MMTA Vice President for Collegiate and National Competitions, for the many hours she has spent organizing this event. Thanks, too, to Stephanie Holmes, MMTA VP for Public Relations, for assembling this program booklet, as well as to our MMTA Performance Area Chairs, Dr. Elizabeth Moak (piano), Dr. Alexander Russakovsky (strings), Dr. Danilo Mezzadri (woodwinds), and Dr. Douglas Mark (brass) for securing our top-notch judges. Speaking of the judges, we appreciate them for giving up a Saturday, driving to Mississippi, and sharing their expertise with our students. Our next MMTA collegiate-level event is the state round of the Music Teachers National Association Competitions, to be held Friday, November 6th at Hinds Community College in Raymond. We hope to see many of you there. Enjoy the day! Sincerely, Victoria Johnson President, MMTA
