The Macael Awards were created in 1985 with the objective of recognizing

professional people in different areas like craft, design, architecture nationally and

internationally, and also, people, mass media and institutions or administrations that have

been working to the benefit of the natural stone sector.

Over these 31 years the Macael Awards have become the most important event of

the natural stone sector with great prestige and seriousness.

Throughout these editions, there have been many personalities present at the

event: Spanish Ministers like Luis De Guindos, Cristóbal Montoro or Manuel Pimentel, the

Presidents of the Government of Andalusia, like Susan Díaz and Manuel Chaves,

Presidents of the Government of Spain, like Mariano Rajoy and José Maria Aznar, the

current Queen of Spain, Ms. Letizia Ortiz S.M., or even important architects like Sainz de

Oiza, Rafael de la Hoz, Cesar Portela, Alberto Campo Baeza, Ethan Anthony, Daniel

Libeskind among others relevant personalities, both national and international.

Moreover, internationally significant institutions such as MIA (Marble Institute of America) or

ASID (American Society of Interior Designers), and the Hearst Design communication

group, all Americans, have been awarded in the 2014, 2015 and 2016 editions.

The Macael Awards have a great impact in the mass media in general and it is

guaranteed the assistance of politicians and stone businessmen from different sectors of

Spain (slate, granite and marble).

In 2013 this association decided to give more international character to Macael

Awards because, nowadays, there are many projects made in natural stone in the

As appeared in Article 1st of its Statutes, the Association of the Marble Industry in

Andalusia (AEMA) was established "for the representation, management, protection and

promotion of common professional interests of its members.” As part of this project, since

its creation, AEMA has driven the development of activities that promote the marble sector.

For 31 years, AEMA has been awarding the Macael Awards. These awards are

intended to recognize those professionals who, in the last year, have excelled especially in

the fields of architecture, crafts and design at national and international level, and to the

People, Institutions and Media, who have performed singular actions for the benefit of the

Marble Sector.

The works must be done in Marble from Macael or elaborated by companies’ members of

AEMA. The AEMA’s intention is that this recognition must be articulated around criteria of

merit, ensuring the full objectivity and transparency in the awarding of the Awards.

According with the above, this year, a new edition of Macael Awards will be called,

which will be governed by the following:

Article 2nd - Applications

2.1. Each of the following individuals or entities may submit those candidates they deem

appropriate and that in his opinion, are creditors of the recognition granted by each of the

Awards:

- Companies that develop their activity in the stone industry.

- Members, whether individuals or legal entities of the AEMA.

- Any other person and organization specially invited by the AEMA for that purpose.

- Professionals in the Sector (architects, designers, technicians...).

2.2. For an application to be considered validly made, it must be in writing and received at

the headquarters of the AEMA no later than September 30, 2017.

In the written statement which the person making the nomination or proposing entity must

reasonably justify the award to which, in his opinion, deserves to choose the bid proposal

and the reasons that make it worthy of the prize that corresponds to the candidate.

The submission of the application must be accompanied by documentation and graphic

material that is necessary for proper assessment of the merits of the candidate,

accompanied by curriculum vitae of the candidate in that special mention of those aspects

that may be relevant when regarded for the award. Furthermore, it is necessary to provide

photos of the proposal, in digital format in high resolution.

2.3. The Association after the deadline specified for submitting nominations, reserves the

right to publish in your bulletin board those applications having been received in time and

form and, therefore, opting for the grant of each Award.

Article 3rd - Jury

3.1 It shall be the Board, failing Awards in its various forms can invite Jury Member

renowned personalities and professional ability.

3.2. The Jury President will be the Business Association and the Secretary. When the jury

first meets, the Secretary shall declare to the jury. The Jury shall first call his secretary,

while if they were accurate subsequent meetings shall be the President who must summon.

The Secretary shall prepare the minutes of meetings of the Jury, once this has been

established, while the President shall address both the deliberations and voting to be

carried out.

Article 4th - Voting

4.1 The jury shall hold as many meetings as may be necessary to discuss the granting of

awards, the President shall determine the time at which the discussions have been

sufficient and should proceed to a vote. The vote of the members of the jury is secret.

4.2 The jury must complete the process of discussion and voting before October (15) of

2015, date to be made public the identity of the winners in each of the existing awards

4.3 The prizes will be awarded to applicants who have met a greater number of votes from

among the members of the jury, which may cast only one vote. In the event that there is an

equal number of a vote received by two or more candidates, will be the President who must

choose someone from among the tied corresponds Award in question.

4.4 The jury may, by two-thirds of its members (and if this ratio shows a decimal number

will be rounded up) declare an award as long as they consider that neither candidate is

qualified for it.

Article 5th - Award

5.1 The award is endowed with a trophy made of white marble Macael

5.2 An indispensable condition to receive the awards referred to in the preceding

paragraph, the presence of the award at the ceremony in which delivery is made the same

and that unless the jury, by a simple majority of its members exempt the winner of this

obligation consider the causes of their absence.
