DESCRIPTION

First and second place: Running in four parts from late October through mid-November 2005, Work Wanted investigated the oft-ignored culture of migrant workers in the United States as it's rooted in Seattle. After conceiving the series, I led the three person investigative team and managed the project from start to finish. The series garnered a broad spectrum of positive community response and earned two awards: FIRST PLACE for Social Issues Reporting given in 2006 by the Society of Professional Journalists and SECOND PLACE for Editorial Journalism, Non-Daily Newspaper, Series given in 2006 by the Washington Press Association. — "They build our homes, landscape our yards and harvest the produce we find in our grocery store aisles. Migrant labor fuels our economy in Seattle and across the country, yet these 13 million workers, the majority traveling from Latin America, remain largely a statistic." —
