7 Whats the negative form of have?

We use eitherhave or have gotwhen we talk about ourpossessions, families, personal characteristics andailments. Remember that we use has orhasgot with heshe and it:Ihavea lot of clothes. Ive got a lot of clothes.My mother has a cousin in Australia.My mother has got a cousin in Australia.The negative forms are dont anddoesnt have andhavent / hasnt got:I dont havea camera. (not I havent a camera.)My room hasntgot much furniture. (not My room hasntmuch furniture)

We usehave (also dont have / doesnt have)for actions:I dont havebreakfast in the morning. (notIhaventbreakfast)He has a shower every morning. (not He has got a shower)The past tense of have and have got is had. The negative is didnthave.Ive got a terrible headache. I wasnt well yesterday, but Ididnt have a headache. (not Ihadnt a headache, Ihadnt gota headache or Ididnt have got a headache)The future form is will (ll) have. The negative form is wont have:If you take this tablet, you wont have a headache.

or events that are unfinished:

To describe what is happening at the time of speaking:Can you switch the TV off? Im not watching it. To describe temporary actions, often with today, this

week, etc. to show the period of time:Im walkingto school this month. Its good for me. To describe ongoing actions which are happening

around this time but not necessarily at the time ofspeaking:Im learning English because I want to work in a travelagency.

We do not usually use the continuous form with hear,smell andtaste. We can use seeingwhen it refers tomeeting someone in the future. We often use can withhear, smell,taste and see to describe what ishappening now. Compare:

I (can) see two women in the picture.andIm seeing my sister tomorrow evening. We use both the continuous and simple form oflook andfeel to talk about now:Yourelookingtired. Whats the matter?And You looktired. Whats the matter?Im feeling nervous about my exams.And I feel nervous about my exams.
