Mission Statement To live out the message of Jesus Christ and become, in fact and appearance, a true Christian community.
Faith Formation Faith formation is a lifelong process: an ongoing interaction with God’s creative goodness. We allow the Gospel to transform us and then bring transformation to the world. The Faith Formation Program at St. Matthias Parish provides opportunities to grow as individuals and as a community. We offer classroom sessions for children, a comprehensive Confirmation program, intergenerational learning in a variety of formats, and an adult enrichment program. For more information, contact Theresa Salafia ([email protected]).
Community Prayer Line Our prayer line, coordinated by Marie Mangan (978-562-2891), offers prayers for you, your loved ones and friends. Requests may also be placed in the "Prayer Request" box at the rear of the Church. All requests will be kept confidential.
Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults Those who are not baptized or have been baptized into another Christian community and are interested in learning more about initiation into the Catholic faith are invited to speak with Theresa Salafia ([email protected]).
Infant Baptism Our parish celebrates the sacrament of Baptism for infants and children under the age of 7 at regularly scheduled Sunday Masses. Please call Deacon Doug at any time during pregnancy or at least two months in advance for information on baptismal catechesis and the choosing of godparents.
Adult Confirmation Adults desiring to complete their Christian Initiation with the sacrament of Confirmation are encouraged to contact Fr. Fran
Reconciliation This sacrament of God’s infinite forgiveness, also known as Penance and Confession, is celebrated on Saturdays at 3:15PM or by appointment with Fr. Fran. Communal celebrations of the sacrament occur during Advent and Lent.
Anointing of the Sick The Church encourages all who are ill, about to undergo surgery, or confined to their homes due to illness to be prayed over and anointed with sacred oil. This can take place at a parish Mass, in the home or in the hospital. Please speak with Fr. Fran for more details .
Marriage Congratulations to engaged couples! Please contact Fr. Fran eight months to a year before your wedding to plan a program of marriage preparation. Welcome New Parishioners! We invite you to share in our life as a Eucharistic Community. Please complete a registration card found at the church entrances or register at the parish office. We look forward to welcoming you to our parish community.

Welcome Deacon Russ and Sandy Morey
I am happy to officially welcome Russ Morey, a
senior deacon of the Archdiocese of Boston, and his
wife Sandy to our parish this weekend. Russ and
Sandy have been worshiping at St. Matthias since
moving to Marlborough during the summer.
After “a certain age” deacons in the Archdiocese of
Boston reach what is called senior deacon status,
meaning they no longer have an official assignment.
They become “free agents” of a sort. Rather than
retiring from diaconal ministry, Russ and Sandy have
chosen to become involved in our parish and we are
delighted to have them!
This brings our deacon bench up to three! Deacons
Doug and Paul continue their ministry in our parish
and they now welcome Deacon Russ to the rotation.
What’s more, to add to our great tradition of
deacons coming from within our parish family, at this
time next year, God willing, Jared Auclair will be
ordained a deacon and we will be celebrating with
him and his family. Jared will most likely be assigned
to a different parish in the Archdiocese as the need for
deacons is great, especially in the Pastoral
Collaboratives.
As Deacon Russ begins his ministry with us, I
asked him to write a few words of introduction to our
parish:
“I was married to my wife, Sandra in 1965, in
Portland, ME, and we have raised 4 children in Acton,
MA. They have a total of 8 children, which has caused
us to move to Marlborough from Laconia, NH, where
we lived for 13 years We are here so to be nearly
central to all our grandchildren.
I was ordained in 1988 in Boston, and have served
3 parishes, and am about to make myself available to
St. Matthias, where I will do some preaching and
participate in the parish programs to serve the needy,
and to assist parishioners in coming to know our faith
better. My wife, Sandy, has worked in previous
parishes to serve the needy over the past 28 years, and
looks forward to doing more here. We also served at
Framingham State Prison for 18 years.
I was born in Enid, Oklahoma in 1944, while my
Dad trained men to be bombardiers at Vance Air
Force Base. I went to primary and high school in
Manchester and Bedford, New Hampshire, graduating
from Manchester High School West in 1962. From
there I went to Worcester Polytechnic Institute and
graduated with a BS in Mechanical Engineering, and
later from Northeastern University with a Masters in
Engineering Mgmt.
Sandra was born in Portland, ME in 1944, attended
schools in that city until she went to Becker Jr.
College in Worcester, and graduated with an
Associate in Medical Assistant in 1964. She has also
been a Eucharistic Minister in two previous parishes
and looks forward to serving in that capacity here.
We look very much forward to meeting you all.”

Parish Picnic
Thank You
Thank you to everyone who attended the parish picnic
last Sunday. It was a great day for our faith community to
be together and enjoy each other while sharing good food
and laughter. A special thank you to everyone who
organized the picnic: set up, take down, games, face
painting, grilling, side dishes, overall clean up,
participation of 8 contestants in the cupcake bake
off. Those in attendance were blessed to have a number of
canopies donated and set up by parishioners and Buffet
Way so the sun and heat did not interfere with the goodwill
and fun of everyone.
