Commandments of the Church The 2nd Vatican Council, in its Constitution on the Liturgy, invites us to a deeper appreciation of the readings and the homily. To be carelessly late for Mass, or to leave before the final prayer and blessing, without due cause, make light of the Sunday obligation and its fulfillment. Mass attendance on the fol-lowing days has grave binding force as a Sunday. • The Assumption of the Blessed

Mother (August 15) • All Saints Day (November 1) • The Immaculate Conception of Mary

(December 8) • Christmas • Solemnity of the Mother of God

The Importance of Scripture Study

The great thing about the readings at Mass is that you can look them up in ad-vance. Our liturgy follows a three-year cycle that walks us through the entire Bible. But one problem is that sometimes it’s difficult to hear or even understand the readings. Then you leave Mass feeling unfed. That’s why its recommended we read the readings ahead of time and get to know God through scripture study. Scripture Study with Deacon Chip breaks open the 3 Sunday readings with prayer, reflection and study.

Join us as we meet every Tuesday in the Office Conference Room beginning at 6:30pm. See Deacon Chip or call him at 210-860-2723 for more information.

Blessed is the one who reads aloud and blessed are those who listen to this prophet-ic message and heed what is written in it, for the appointed time is near. Rev 1:3

A note of appreciation to our Youth Ministry for passing out Donuts/pastries on Father’s Day after every scheduled Mas.

Thank you

THIS SACRED MEAL

Today we celebrate the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. Each of the readings includes a blessing and a sharing of food. They remind us of the central place of meals in our lives. Each meal brings to mind other meals: the sharing of cookies and milk, pizza and beer, loaves and fishes, bread and wine. When we prepare a meal for our family, our friends, even strangers, we always put something of ourselves into the preparation and the meal itself. The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ reminds us of what God put into the preparation for this meal that we celebrate today. We share this sacred meal and are transformed as we remember the death of Jesus and the sacrifice that nurtures our faith, sustains our lives, and supports our work. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co

Mission San Jose A Moment of History ...

One of the most unique and interesting features of the new Mission Church of San Jose and San Miguel de Aguayo is the spiral wooden stair way leading up to the choir loft. This stairway is original to the church. The steps are hand carved from heavy beams of live-oak wood. Each step is equal in length. They are compact and sol-id. The ends of the steps lie neatly placed one above the other. No nails, screws, or bolts are used in the assembly of this beautiful stairway. When the Mission was abandoned and crumbling into ruin, a concerned citizen recognized the value of these steps and removed them. They were re-turned when it was decided to restore the Mission Church.

Now and at the Hour of my Death Workshop

Monday, June 24

A Catholic funeral traditionally includes three parts: a vigil (wake) service at a funeral home, the funeral Mass in the church, and commit-tal prayers at the cemetery. We will also cover the Catholic instructions on cremation. The priest, deacon or lay ecclesial minister who assists in planning the funeral rites will work with the family to select the most appropriate liturgical format. Now, you can preplan these rites at the parish.

This workshop will cover a review of the rites per the Order of Christian Funerals Rites Book and preplanning by selecting scripture readings and music selections for your ser-vices.

Monday, June 24 at 7pm in
