Jenna Hamm Memorial Scholarship  John Mekala and RehabEdge of Hillsboro will be giving a $500 Scholarship to a graduating senior in honor of the late Jenna Hamm, who worked for Mekala as a physical therapy assistant.  Hamm, who studied physical therapy at Vincennes University in Indiana, passed away in August 2016 after she was struck by a drunk driver while jogging.  She is survived by her husband Brandon and daughter Mila.  The Jenna Hamm Memorial Scholarship is open to any graduating

senior who has been accepted to physical therapy assistant program at a college or university and who is planning on pursuing a career as a PTA.   Applicant must submit materials to RehabEdge by Monday, June 5.  

Faith in Life Essay Contest  Each year the Greater Hillsboro Ministerial Fellowship offers a grant to someone(s) who submits a "Faith in Life" essay. The topic of this paper is to be the positive impact ones faith has had upon their life. This may be in essay form, a poem, a song, or any other format you choose.  In the past, typical entries have been one to two pages in length. Your entry must be submitted by no later than Friday, May 12th (to the High School Counselor’s Office) or Sunday, May 14th (to Pastor Matt Ferguson). If you are turning it in to Pastor Matt Ferguson, who oversees this project for the local churches, you may email him a copy at [email protected].

Hillsboro FFA Alumni Scholarship  The Hillsboro FFA Alumni has established a scholarship to assist Hillsboro FFA seniors pursue a degree in a post-secondary institution.  Application is due in the counselor's office by April 21, 2017.

Hillsboro Area Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship Program The Scholarship and Grant Program of the Hillsboro Area Hospital Auxiliary is designed to give financial aid to persons who will train in the healthcare field. The Auxiliary administers three separate awards to serve this purpose: the Mae Seward Sorrells Nursing Scholarship, the Montgomery County Health Improvement Scholarship and the Hillsboro Area Hospital Scholarship. Graduating seniors need to be aware that the Montgomery County Health Improvement Scholarship are only for students entering their second year of college in a nursing program. Applicant must submit their scholarship application to Sue White by April 24, 2017. 

Hutton Scholarship  The Hutton Scholarship is a scholarship that is awarded to a graduating senior from one of five (5) high schools (Litchfield, Hillsboro, Raymond, Gillispie, or Mt. Olive). The balance of the money remaining in the scholarship fund is left to the committee to award to applicants who may be current graduates or continuing students. This is a NEEDS BASED scholarship that is awarded to a student who will be attending a college, trade school, or training that will lead to a professional degree, certification, or experience towards a future career. Applications must be mailed by the student to arrive at American Legion-Hutton Scholarship P.O. Box 1, Litchfield, IL  62056 no later than April 20.

Food and Agribusiness Scholarship  The Hillsboro and Litchfield Chambers of Commerce Agribusiness Committee established the Food and Agribusiness Career Scholarship to assist youth in Montgomery County pursuing a degree and career in agricultural industries. The committee will award two (2) $1000 scholarship to a qualified FFA and/or 4-H member during the spring semester of the students' high school senior year. Students must submit applications to Chamber of Commerce by April 15, 2017. Deadline extend by 7 days - April 22, 2017.

Eunice May Russell Democrat Scholarship  The Montgomery County Democrat Central Committee is awarding a $1000 scholarship to a senior graduating from one of the Montgomery County High Schools

Goldsmith at the Vernon Hills Police Department located in Lake County, Illinois. Any HHS graduating student who is pursuing higher education as a full-time student at a college or university in the state of Illinois is eligible for this scholarship.  Scholarship is due in the counseling office by April 7, 2017.

The Arin William Sanford Memorial Scholarship has been established by friends and members of the Sanford family to honor the memory of Arin Sanford.  Arin Sanford passed away January 8, 2016.  He would have been a member of the class of 2017.  Arin was active in Hillsboro High School football, Future Farmers of America, and summer baseball. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his many friends and family.  Funding for this scholarship is made possible thru generous donations by friends of the family and by members of the Sanford family.  As part of the application, applicants will answer two questions:  1)  Reflecting on your personal experiences and/or circumstances, tell us something about yourself not already or sufficiently communicated in your application that distinguishes you as a potential scholarship candidate for a Teacher Education Program or a Vocational Program of your choice.  2) Please tell us your financial need for this scholarship.  Scholarship Application is due in the counseling office by February 28, 2017

Rotary Club of Hillsboro Scholarship  The Rotary Club of Hillsboro is accepting scholarship applications from graduating seniors.  The applicant must be enrolled or accepted as a full-time student at an accredited school pursuing a degree or a vocational certification.  Please review application for other criteria.  Application must be submitted to HHS counseling office by April 7, 2017.

Illinois Society of Professional Engineers Scholarship(ISBE) This website list several scholarships for engineers. You should list the St. Clair Chapter if asked to name your sponsoring chapter.  There is a scholarship(s) that is available to graduating seniors who are pursuing a engineering degree in an Illinois or Missouri university that is ABET-accredited.  The applicant will complete and mail their own application.  Use the link below for more information. Ag related careers may include diesel mechanics, biology, and conservation.  Interested students can research potential agricultural related careers at AgCareers.com and/or home economics related careers at HEIA.com .  Two scholarships of up to $2500 each will be awarded to graduates from a high school in Montgomery County, IL.  Scholarships will be renewable for up to 3 additional years based upon proof of satisfactory academic progress.  Applicant must submit their scholarship application to the Kenneth & Jean Lewey Trust, P.O. C.E.F.S. Economic Opportunity Corporation’s CSBG Scholarship  The CSBG Scholarship is designed, in cooperation with the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, to provide financial assistance to low-income and disadvantaged persons. Scholarships will go toward providing formal education or occupational training in an accredited Illinois educational institution to CSBG eligible clients, with particular consideration given to study in high technology areas or other growth occupations. Education and training made possible through the scholarships include either general education to achieve short-term training (2 years or less) in growth occupation skills, or post-secondary education.  All applicants must be enrolled as a full-time student (12 credit hours or more) in an Illinois accredited college. This is a competitive scholarship based on merit, not solely on financial need. If the scholarship money is used to pay tuition fees and you withdrawal from classes and receive a refund, the money must be refunded to C.E.F.S. Paws Care "Andy and Debbie Schum" Scholarship This Award is available to individuals in Montgomery County, IL who plan on attending a college or technical school in the United States. This year, two $500 scholarships will be awarded. Certain qualifications must be completed prior to submitting your application. Applicant must meet all criteria and submit application to PAWS CARE by April 1st .  Download the qualifications and volunteer forms from the Paws Care link above.

 

Mercedes V. Lessman Memorial Scholarship  The Mercedes V. Lessman Memorial Scholarship has been established by her children to honor the memory of Mercedes Lessman.   Mrs. Lessman lived in the Hillsboro area her entire life and was a housewife, seamstress at the local dress factory and a well-known artist. Her paintings have been displayed in various venues where she won many awards.  She was a member of local art clubs and once served as the Grand Marshal of the annual Old Settlers parade in Hillsboro.  Mrs. Lessman lived on a farm southwest of Hillsboro. She was very active in community activities.    This scholarship is available to any graduating senior of Hillsboro High School.  Application is due in HHS counselor's office by March 31, 2017.

 

Louis & Temple Marsch Scholarship This scholarship is for graduating seniors that are pursuing a college degree in engineering or a scientific field.  Priority will be given to applicants in the engineering field and related science fields.  Students are responsible for mailing their own applications.  Scholarship application must be received by the Louis & Temple Marsch Charitable trust committee by April 1st.

Bob Price Memorial Scholarship  Our friend, Bob Price, lost his life in a boating accident on September 30, 2012. However his spirit lives on through this scholarship as we support those who have the same passions and spirit as Bob. Bob loved the outdoors, sports, and people. He was a Master Sergeant with the Illinois State Police, District #18, a volunteer fireman and rescue diver with the Hillsboro Fire Department, and a member of the Illinois Air National Guard 183rd

Fighter Wing serving four overseas tours. He enjoyed helping others and was proud to serve his country, state, and community.  Each year a scholarship shall be available to a graduating student from a High School in the Illinois State Police District 18 counties: Calhoun, Green, Jersey, Macoupin, and Montgomery. The amount will be determined after applications are reviewed. Monetary awards to be between $500 and $1000 per student. The scholarship(s) will be awarded to a student(s) with a career choice in: #1 criminal justice, #2 fire science, #3 public safety.  Application packet must be mailed by the student with a postmarked no later than March 31st of graduation year. 

Leanne R. Harpole Memorial Scholarship This $500.00 Teacher Education Scholarship award is presented annually to a deserving Hillsboro High School senior.  Betty and Bill Harpole have generously established this scholarship to honor their late daughter, Leanne R. Harpole, who graduated from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale with a degree in Psychology.  Application needs to be submitted to HHS counseling office by March 24, 2017.

Joan and Bernard Rappe' Memorial Scholarship  This $500 scholarship is awarded annually to a deserving Hillsboro High School graduate who will be entering the field of Education in honor of Joan and Bernard Rappe'.  Joan Rappe' served the Hillsboro School District as a choral instructor and director at Hillsboro High School and Hillsboro Jr. High School.  Mr. Bernard Rappe' was active in community civic affairs, serving as Mayor and a member of the Hillsboro City Council for many years.  Mr. Rappe' served on the district steering committee to build the new Beckemeyer and Coffeen Elementary Schools.  Both Joan and Bernard received Service to Mankind awards from the Hillsboro Sertoma Club for their civic activities and for their service to the community.  Application needs to be submitted to HHS counseling office by March 24, 2017.

Gerald P. Huber Academic Scholarship  This $500.00 scholarship has been established by family and friends of Gerald Patrick Huber. Mr. Huber was a highly respected attorney and was very active in civic events within the community. This scholarship will be awarded to a deserving high school senior.  Application is due in HHS counselor's office by March 24, 2017.

Jan Young Memorial Scholarship  A $500.00 scholarship will be presented by Mrs. Pat Young through the Educational Foundation. This scholarship is funded by members of the Jan Young Family.  Applicants must have a "C" average or better to apply.  Mr. Jan Young served the Hillsboro District for many years as a counselor. Application is due in HHS counselor's office by March 24, 2017. 

Donald L. Burton III Memorial Scholarship The Donald L. Burton III Memorial Scholarship is funded through the Hillsboro Educational Foundation and will be presented by the Don and Sally Burton Family.  Applicants must have a "C" average or better to apply.  Donnie Burton III, a junior at Hillsboro High School, passed away suddenly while preparing for a canoe trip in Missouri during the summer of 2003.  Application is due in HHS counselor's office by March 24, 2017.

full-time undergraduate degree program at an accredited U.S. college or university. The goal of the scholarship program is to award a minimum of one $2,000 scholarship at each commissary location that receives applications from students who meet all of the eligibility requirements. A total of 700 scholarship grants will be awarded for the school year 2017-18.

The MRW/MTI Scholarship application for interested students deadline is fast approaching (March 17th). MRW/MTI are giving away 23 scholarships with 2 being full scholarships.  We only have 9 full applications so far so there is great opportunity for any students that apply to earn a scholarship.  I have attached the instructions for applying for this scholarship for both manually and online.  I would be more than willing to come to your school and help you with applying for this scholarship.  I am trying to devote my time with helping each and every student interested in applying for this scholarship before the March 17th deadline. The scholarship is for Journeyman Welding, Medical Assisting, Dental Assisting, HVACR, and Pharmacy Technician programs.  Please contact me with any question or comments.

I am excited to again offer 3 scholarship opportunities for your seniors this year that I wanted you to be aware of.

1.  The first scholarship is "Aspiring Fashion Professional" Scholarship. This is a $1,000 scholarship that will be awarded to students that are interested in pursuing a fashion degree at an accredited post-secondary school or college.  Interested students can visit this link www.fashion-schools.org and find the scholarship located at the bottom of the page and click on it.

2.  The 2nd Scholarship is the "Aspiring Animation Professional" Scholarship Program. This is the 5th year we are awarding this scholarship for AnimationCareerReview.com. We are offering high school seniors the opportunity to win a $1,000 scholarship.  This will be awarded to students that are interested in pursuing an animation career path at an accredited post-secondary school or college. We ask that you have interested students visit our website, http://www.animationcareerreview.com/ to find eligibility information along with the online application. The scholarship will be on the right side of the page and click on it.

Montgomery Veterans Task Force Education Grant   Preference will be given to students having an immediate family member who is a veteran.  Students must have at least a "C" average and family income must not exceed $70,000.  Students will need deliver applications to Montgomery Veterans Task Force, 201 S. Main St., Hillsboro, IL 62049 by March 17, 2017.

Rose Mormino Teacher Education Scholarship     The Rose Mormino Teacher Education Scholarship is awarded annually to a graduating senior from Hillsboro High School intending to go into the field of education. Ms. Mormino taught grade two at Burbank School in Hillsboro for many years. She finished her career as a second grade teacher at the new Beckemeyer School in Hillsboro. This scholarship is awarded in the amount of $10,000 payable over 4 years to a graduate intending to go into teaching. The scholarship was established by family and friends in 2002. Additional scholarships of $1000.00 are available to applicants.  Scholarship is due in the counseling office by March 17, 2017.

Bonnie Ireland Memorial Scholarship  This scholarship is for any graduating senior who is pursuing a degree at an accredited four year university. Application is due in HHS counselor's office by March 17, 2017. 

Ellen McGurty Nursing Scholarship This annual scholarship for $500.00 is awarded to an individual planning to embark upon a nursing or medical profession. This award honors Mrs. Ellen McGurty, long-time nurse at Hillsboro Hospital. The goal of this scholarship is to enable a graduate to enter into a shortage occupation career. Application needs to be submitted to HHS counseling office by March 17, 2017.  

Kelley Family Scholarship  This $500.00 award is presented to a deserving Hillsboro High School graduate by the Kelley families through the Hillsboro Educational Foundation, Inc. Members of the Kelley family have long been active in governmental and educational projects and activities. Mr. Harry "Bud" Kelley received the first annual Educational Foundation Distinguished Alumni Award in 2001.  This scholarship is available to any graduating Hillsboro High School student.  Scholarship is due in the counseling office by March 17, 2017.

Leona & Louis Huber Memorial Scholarship  The Leona and Louis Huber Memorial Scholarship has been established their children to honor the memory of Leona and Louis.  Louis Huber was a long time State Farm Insurance Agent in Hillsboro.  He is very active in church and community activities.  He and his wife Leona raised their family on the family farm east of Hillsboro.  This scholarship is available to any graduating Hillsboro High School student.  Scholarship is due in the counseling office by March 17, 2017.

Holly Harvey Memorial Scholarship  The $500.00 Holly Harvey Memorial Scholarship will be awarded annually to a deserving Hillsboro High School senior pursuing training in the medical field. Holly Harvey served the Hillsboro community as both a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) for almost twenty years.  Scholarship is due in the counseling office by March 10, 2017. 

The Balin Ethan Daniel Robbins Memorial Scholarship has been established by Daniel and Erica Robbins wand family friends to honor the memory of their son.  Balin was a student at Hillsboro High School.  He passed away in 2014 during his junior year at Hillsboro High School.  Balin was a popular high school student.  He was interested in technology and loved to read about superheroes.  To many, he was a superhero who was always available to help or lend a helping hand.  Balin also chose to be an organ donor, which helped save several lives and improve the lives of dozens more.  This $500 scholarship is available to any graduating Hillsboro High School Student.  It may be used in any two or four-year college or vocational school.  Applicants are requested to complete the information below and to return this application to the counseling office at Hillsboro High School by March 10, 2017.

 Precise Specialties Corporation Scholarship This $1000 scholarship is awarded to a Hillsboro High School graduate by Jim and Pam Dawson, owners of Precise Specialties Corporation. It may be used for tuition and fees for accredited trade schools, two year degree programs, or a four year program. Interested students must use the Educational Foundation Scholarship form attached and application.  Application is due in HHS counselor's office by March 10, 2017.

Hillsboro Educational Foundation Scholarship Scholarships ranging from $500-$1000 are presented annually to graduates of Hillsboro High School by the Educational Foundation. Funding for these scholarships is made possible by donations from alumni that are designed toward scholarships. Included in the 2017 scholarship program will be the following scholarships: Mary Ann Pretnar Memorial Scholarship; Robert Zimmerman Memorial Scholarship; Dkupabai Mekala Memorial Scholarship, as well as a number of Hillsboro Educational Scholarships provided by donations from alumni. Lavina Whitlock Bertram Scholarship  This scholarship is awarded through the Hillsboro Educational Foundation by Mr. Kenneth Bertram to honor the memory of his mother, Lavina Whitlock Bertram, a graduate of Hillsboro High School. It is for a female HHS graduating senior who is pursuing a 4-year degree at an Illinois university or college.  Applicants must be intent on pursuing a professional career in the areas of nursing, business, music or other professional fields. Scholarship is due in the counseling March 10, 2017. 

Selma J. Hartke Scholarship  The Selma J. Hartke Scholarship is for anyone who is pursuing post-secondary education or training. Financial need is the primary criteria for this scholarship. The Hartke scholarship committee request that applicants complete the FAFSA as part of the application.

Mel & Jacqueline Heselov Scholarship  A $1000.00 scholarship is given each year to honor Mel and Jacqueline Heselov of Hillsboro, Illinois. The scholarship was set up by a generous donation by the children of Mel and Jacqueline Heselov. Mr. Heselov owned and operated Heselov’s Style Shop for many years on the Main Street in Hillsboro.  This scholarship is for HHS graduating seniors who are pursuing a 4-year degree at an Illinois university or college.  Preference will be given to University of Illinois candidates. Scholarship is due in the counseling March 3, 2017.

Charles William Schluckebier Memorial Scholarship  This $500 scholarship is awarded annually through the Hillsboro Educational Foundation by members of the William C. Schluckebier family.  Bill Schluckebier was a prominent member of our community and represented one of the several generations of Schluckebiers to have farmed this area.  Mr. Schluckebier served our school district for many years as a board member from the Donnellson area.  Applicants must be a graduating senior who is planning to pursue training in an agricultural related career or diesel mechanics.   Application is due in HHS counselor's office by March 3, 2017. 

Dusty Cameron Memorial Scholarship  This scholarship is awarded annually through the Foundation by friends of the Cameron Family. Dusty Cameron had touched many hearts before passing away during his fifth grade year at Beckemeyer Elementary School. This scholarship is to honor him and to help remind those who apply for this scholarship the importance of a "giving spirit." Application is due in HHS counselor's office by March 3, 2017.

National Bank's Business Scholarship This $500.00 scholarship is awarded annually through the Foundation by the National Bank of Hillsboro. The scholarship is awarded to an applicant from the graduating class who will be working toward a career in a business or accounting profession. Applicant must rank in the top half of their graduating class. Application needs to be submitted to HHS counseling office by March 3, 2017.

Edward A. Goyak Scholarship This $1000.00 scholarship is given by Mrs. Elizabeth Goyak in honor of her late husband Edward. Mr. Goyak grew up in Taylor Springs. He graduated from Hillsboro High School. Mr. Goyak had an intense interest in government. This scholarship is designed to be awarded to an individual who wishes to study civics, government, or public affairs. Mrs. Goyak enjoys hearing from the recipient of the scholarship and is very interested in higher education for young people. Scholarship deadline is March 3, 2017. 

Pat Fuehne Academic Scholarship This $1000 scholarship for tuition and fees is awarded to individuals planning to continue their education at the collegiate level. The goal of this scholarship is to recognize and honor those students who have committed to taking advanced classes throughout their time in the Hillsboro School District. Illinois PTA Scholarship   The Illinois PTA scholarship will be awarded to two students in each of Illinois PTA's Five Field Service Areas in education or education-related degrees. Student must be majoring in the field of education or education-related degree program. All applications must be submitted by the applicant no later than February 15, 2017.

Township Officials of Illinois Scholarship  This scholarship is for graduating high school seniors who attend school in and are residents of Illinois. To qualify for this scholarship, applicants must have a 3.0 GPA and be US citizens. Applicants must have a history of extracurricular activities that demonstrates a willingness to accept leadership responsibilities (student government, club officer, etc.) or a commitment to civic responsibility, social consciousness, and a willingness to serve the community (community service projects, volunteer activities with local service agencies or charitable institutions, etc.). They must also plan to enroll full-time in a bachelor's degree program at an Illinois school. To apply for this scholarship, applicants must submit a 500-word essay on "The Role of Township Government in Today's Society and in the Future" that will include information gained from an interview with a township official.  TOI will award seven $1,500 scholarships in 2017. Dale Stretch Vocational Scholarship  This $500.00 scholarship has been established by friends of the Dale Stretch Family and will be awarded to a deserving student who wishes to pursue a vocational career. Mr. Dale Stretch served as director of Vocational Education for many years in the Hillsboro School District and was a strong proponent of vocational education. Application needs to be submitted to HHS counseling office by February 28, 2017.

Anita T. and John F. Rundquist Scholarship   This $1000.00 Teacher Education Scholarship award is presented annually to a deserving Hillsboro High School senior through the Foundation by the Rundquist family to honor their parents, Ania T. and John F. Rundquist. These individuals are life-long community residents in the Butler area with a strong commitment to education and agriculture. Mr. Rundquist served many years on the Hillsboro District Board of Education.  The recipient of this award must be enrolled or accepted as a student at an accredited post-secondary school with the intent of studying agriculture or foods and nutrition (academic, applied or technology degree).  Application needs to be submitted to HHS counseling office by February 28, 2017.

Dillon C. Clark Christian American Values Scholarship  The Dillon C. Clark Christian American Values Scholarship is a $500 scholarship that is awarded to a Hillsboro High School graduate.  Applicants must submit a one page essay describing their idea on how we can improve our county.  Essays are due in the counselor's by March 3, 2017.

Illinois AMVETS Scholarship program The Illinois AMVETS Service Foundation has been awarding scholarships to Illinois high school seniors for approximately 40 years. Every year AMVETS awards approximately fifty 1-year $3,000 scholarships non-renewable to Illinois High School Seniors. The AMVETS and the AMVETS Subsidiary Organizations value the importance of education and support the educational pursuits of all students. To gather more insight into the AMVETS Scholarship Programs, please review the six scholarships and their requirements at Illinois AMVETS Service Foundation Scholarship Program. Students will be asked to mail their own applications. Application should be postmarked no later than March 1, 2017.

National Defense Transportation Association Scholarship. The purpose of the NDTA Scott/St. Louis Chapter scholarship program is to promote careers in Business, Transportation Logistics, and Physical Distribution. Although all students may apply, preference will be given to students pursuing these and related courses of study. The Scott/St. Louis Chapter of the NDTA intends to award a minimum of two $4000 and two $2500 scholarships in 2017. An additional award of $1500 each are awarded to students enrolled in a two-year associate degree or trade certification program. All applications must be mailed by the applicant no later than March 1, 2017.

Future Healthcare Hero Award  The South Central Illinois Area Health Education Center (SCI-AHEC) is accepting applications for $500 Future Healthcare Hero awards for 2017 graduating seniors.  There will be a total of eighteen $500 awards given to applicants who are pursuing entry into any health science program for the 2017 Fall semester.  Applicants must submit needed materials to SCI-AHEC by March 1, 2017.  

3-M Firefighters' Association Scholarship   The 3-M Firefighters' Association Scholarship is available to who are currently pursuing or planning to pursue undergraduate or graduate studies, a certification program or job skills training at an accredited institution in the fire service field. Applicant must submit application by March 1, 2017. 

LLCC Foundation scholarships are available for both first-time and continuing students who are enrolled full or part-time at LLCC.  To complete a scholarship application, you must have applied to LLCC and have been accepted for admission.  Scholarships are awarded based on a variety of criteria. Many are for students in any program of study; some require a specific program.  Most scholarships have a minimum required GPA based on a 4.0 scale and a minimum number of LLCC credit hours that must be completed each semester.  The applicant must electronically submit their application by March 1, 2017.  Please view the LLCC Scholarship Instruction page for more information.

H.U.E.A. Scholarship Scholarships will be given to a high school seniors who are the son/daughter of a H.U.E.A. member. More than two $500 scholarships may be offered if funds are available. Applications must be submitted to H.U.E.A President Matt Vaughn by March 1, 2017.

Erik Paul Westerman Memorial Scholarship  These scholarships are awarded annually in memory of Erik Paul Westerman, a 1998 Hillsboro High School graduate, to deserving students who exhibit an interest in computer graphics/art, automotive, computer related careers, engineering and/or high end automotive technological education.  Application needs to be submitted to HHS counseling office by February 28, 2017.

Jerad J. Kiefer Memorial Scholarship  The Jerad J. Kiefer Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a Hillsboro High School Senior during the 2016-2017 school year.   Jerad J. Kiefer, son of Paul and Julie Kiefer passed away while a 2nd grade student at Beckemeyer School.   His classmates will be graduating from Hillsboro High School this spring.  Two or more $500.00 scholarships will be awarded in the memory of Jerad.  Application needs to be submitted to HHS counseling office by February 28, 2017.

Glenn and Kay Frame Teacher Education Scholarship   The Glenn and Kay Frame Teacher Education Scholarship has been established by relatives in honor of Glenn and Kay. Glenn served as a long time teacher in the Hillsboro School District, teaching 8th grade mathematics and social studies at Hillsboro Jr. High School.  Mr. Frame also served as a principal of Beckemeyer School in Hillsboro prior to his teaching career at the Junior High School.  Kay Frame finished her career in the Litchfield School District where she taught for many years as a third grade teacher.  Mr. and Mrs. Frame were very active in the Hillsboro area as members of the Hillsboro Lions Club, where he served as president and many years on the board of directors.  He also served as District Governor.  Glenn and Kay represented Hillsboro at many state, national, and international conventions.  This scholarship is available to any graduating Hillsboro High School student planning to enter a Teacher Education Program.  Application needs to be submitted to HHS counseling office by February 28, 2017.

Dennis Wilson Memorial Scholarship  This scholarship was established by friends and family of the late Dennis Wilson. Mr. Wilson worked as an iron worker and a business agent for various trade unions. He was instrumental in helping youth to develop good work ethics and to pursue a trade apprentice program. Trades that provide for apprenticeship programs include: Carpenters, Cement Masons and Plasterers, Electricians, Iron Workers, Laborers, Operating Engineers, Plumbers and Gasfitters, Sheet Metal Workers. The amount of scholarship will depend upon donations received by the Foundation.  Application needs to be submitted to HHS counseling office by February 28, 2017.

Montgomery County Farm Bureau Foundation Scholarship This scholarship is available to students who are pursuing a degree in an agricultural related field.  The applicant, parent or guardian must be a member of Montgomery County Farm Bureau at least 1 year before the date of March 1, 2017.  Please review application for more details.  Application must be submitted by noon on March 6, 2017 to Montgomery County Farm Bureau, 102 N. Main St., Hillsboro, IL  62049.

Betty and Ida Baumann Nursing Scholarship  This annual scholarship has been established as a tribute to Betty and Ida Baumann for deserving Hillsboro High School students who wish to enter the field of nursing. Betty Baumann was very active in community affairs, especially with activities of the Hillsboro Hospital Auxiliary. These annual scholarships for tuition and fees will be awarded to individuals planning to embark upon a career of nursing. Four or more scholarships will be available in 2017. This scholarship may be used for two, three, or four year programs. The scholarship is renewable upon written application to the counselor's office at Hillsboro High School. Students wishing to renew the application for subsequent years must contact the Hillsboro High School counselor's office for the application. Application is due in HHS counselor's office by February 28, 2017.

Farm Credit Illinois Scholarship – Twenty-four $2000 scholarships will be awarded in 2016.  Farm Credit Illinois will be looking to award high school seniors who plan to enroll in an agriculture-based college curriculum next fall and who have aspirations of a career in agriculture.  Recipients will receive a $1000 credit on their college student account for the fall 2017 semester and an additional $1000 will be available to students who continue pursuing an agricultural degree in the Fall 2019 semester.  In addition, the University of Illinois Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES) is offering a scholarship match to 2017 Farm Credit Agriculture Scholars who enroll full-time in the UofI College of ACES.  Students are responsible for mailing their own applications. Application deadline is February 27, 2017. 

The application for the 2017-2018 Children of Veterans Tuition Waiver is now available online. Please refer to our website, osfa.illinois.edu. The applicant will need to print out the application and mail it to our office with the required documents. 

The Children of Veterans Tuition Waiver is a four-year in-state tuition waiver at the University of Illinois. The recipient may use his/her Children of Veterans Tuition Waiver at any of the University of Illinois campuses (Urbana-Champaign, Chicago, Health Sciences Center, or Springfield).

One award is available per conflict in each county, but the maximum number of awards per county is three. The following are eligible conflicts for this award: World War II, the Korean Conflict, the Vietnam Conflict, the Siege of Beirut, the Grenada Conflict, the Southwest Asia Conflict, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Specific information regarding the required service dates and medal eligibility is provided on the application itself. The application also outlines the selection criteria that will be used to determine award winners.

The priority deadline is January 3, 2017. Please note that this deadline is significantly earlier than previous years. Candidates must submit the completed application with photocopies of both the veteran parent’s service papers (DD Form 214 or other official documents) and the student’s ACT or SAT scores to our office.

CBAI Foundation for Community Banking Scholarship Program  This scholarship provides scholarship funds for top high school senior essays statewide. Students can win up to $4000 for higher education and the CBAI Foundation for Community Banking also has the ability to award up to 12 additional scholarships of $1000 each. Top essay winners will be selected from a pool of high school seniors that are able to best capture the essence and importance of community banking. Students will submit essays that best capture the following theme: "The Importance of Community Banking."   Sponsoring Bank:  First Community Bank of Hillsboro  Sponsoring Contact:  Tom Gooding, CEO   A complete scholarship packet needs to be delivered to First Community Bank in Hillsboro by January 25, 2017.  CHANGES to this scholarship allows applicant to submit more than 1 page for their essay.

Hillsboro Sertoma Club Scholarship Sertoma stands for “Service to Mankind”. The organization is international in scope with the purpose “to meet the needs of communities through volunteer service”. The vision of Sertoma is “to create communities of change under common leadership and with a common voice that will serve many in need”. This $2000 scholarship has been established as a Memorial in honor of deceased Sertoma Club members (Dale Stretch, Gerald Huber, Chuck Ellis,) for deserving Hillsboro High School Graduates. There will be two $2000 scholarships awarded for the 2017 graduates.  Applicants will be judged on Quality of Service and Stewardship in serving others. Each applicant will be asked to demonstrate and document service achievements. Applicant must be in the top 50% of their class. Applications are due in the counseling office by January 27, 2017.  CHANGES to this scholarship includes allow ALL student of Hillsboro School District to apply rather than limit it to only Montgomery County residents.

MJM ELECTRIC Cooperative is excited to announce its new scholarships for higher education. The MJM Scholarship Program will be awarding two $1000 scholarships to deserving high school seniors. Additionally, ten scholarships of $2000 each will be awarded in 2016 through the Thomas H. Moore Illinois Electric Cooperatives (IEC) Memorial Scholarship Program. Students who apply to each scholarship program must be the son or daughter of an MJM Electric Cooperative member. Scholarships may be used for educational costs at any two-year or four-year college or university in the U.S., including vocational/technical schools. Students are encouraged to apply online at the MJM Scholarship Program website. Applications are due by December 31, 2016.

AES Engineering Scholarship - Our belief is that achieving a high grade point average should not be the only criteria for determining who deserves to be helped. For that reason we are offering a scholarship that will be awarded on the basis of character, as determined by evaluated the essays that are submitted.  Scholarships are intended for our future leaders across a wide spectrum of fields of study. This award is available to high school seniors and all students attending a post secondary educational facility.  You are not required to be taking Engineering courses to be eligible.   Students must submit an essay of between 500 and 1000 words in answer to the following question:  When you look back on your life in 30 years, what would it take for you to consider your life successful?  What relationships or accomplishments will be important on this journey?  Submission deadline is October 6, 2016.  Use the link above for more information about the scholarship and how to submit your work. 

NSA Stokes Educational Scholarship Program The NSA Stokes Educational Scholarship Program is intended to recruit individuals, particularly minority high school students, with a demonstrated capability to develop skills critical to the mission of the Agency. Stokes is open to high school seniors planning on majoring in computer science or computer/electrical engineering. The Student of the Month Program is sponsored by CNB Bank & Trust of Hillsboro. Its purpose is to recognize outstanding senior students in a variety of areas from the Hillsboro School District. Six individuals will be chosen during the school year to be student of the month from November to April and will receive $50 gift card. At the end of the selection process, all applications received throughout the year will be considered for a $500.00 scholarship to the college or trade school of the winner’s choice.  Please see application for more details.  Applications are due in the counseling office by October 21, 2016.
