The Push and Pull Factors
By Joe and Kaisun
The Push Factors
• Push factors of immigration are when one is forced to leave their country.
• For example:
• War- when there is international conflict in a country, living in such a place can be extremely dangerous, therefore, one is forced to leave the nation and become a refugee and seek asylum in another country.
• Poverty- when people become homeless and cannot afford such important futilities such as food, or if there is a lack of clean water, one has to leave the country to seek out a better place to live.
• Dictatorship- if a nation is being controlled by force, then the population can face extreme persecution, torture and even death. This country is not a safe place to remain, so people will escape said country and seek asylum in a place where they will be welcomed.
The Pull Factors
• Pull factors are when a person is pulled away from there country.
• For example:
• Marriage- If one is engaged to someone who lives in a different country to them, then they will migrate to said country so that they can get married to them.
• To Seek a Better Job- If one has a bad job which is poorly paid and one can suffer from poverty through it, one will go to another country where they can get a much better job in a better environment.
• Family- If one’s family lives in another country, it is common for many citizens to migrate to their country in order to be closer to their family.
