Mifalot is an effective and far-reaching social change organization.

Foreword by the Executive DirectorMifalot is a testament to the positive force and universal reach of football. For around two decades, Mifalot has been a light to over 400,000 children, youth and young adults. Regardless of race, religion, gender, economic background, or disability, Mifalot strives to ensure that all children are able to learn, play and reach their full potential. Mifalot is dedicated to sports for development and peace; and we are forever grateful for our supporters and dedicated staff members who turn our vision into reality. Looking ahead at the challenges that remain, we know that more can, and should, be done to address the educational, social and coexistence needs of young people throughout our nation, region and around the world.

Mifalot was founded in 1997 by the owners of the Hapoel Tel Aviv Football Club at the time - Moshe Theumim, Sami Sagol, and Motti Orenstein. Their idea was simple - use football to create real change. Today, Mifalot is the largest and most diverse sport for development and peace project in the region. Hapoel Tel Aviv’s responsibility and dedication to Mifalot are based on a unique system of commitment and participation that includes:

Contractual commitments from Hapoel players to participate in Mifalot activitiesSharing Hapoel’s logoTickets to Hapoel games

HAPOEL TEL AVIV F.C.: MUCH MORE THAN FOOTBALL

“At Hapoel Tel Aviv we have a responsibility to give back to our community, our children and our fans. We strive to make a difference in the lives of those in need.”

Youth & Community Development Mifalot harnesses the love of football to teach life skills, empower the individual, strengthen the community, integrate marginalized communities and foster inter-group relationships. No group is forgotten. We embrace all of Israel’s majority and minority populations: Jews, Arabs, youth at risk, new immigrants, refugees/asylum seekers and Bedouins. We engage the entire community through our partnerships with community centers, schools and other NGO’s.

“I have seen Mifalot’s impact in reducing the destructive behavior of youth at risk. For children that come from harsh backgrounds of poverty, orphanages, abuse and worse, Mifalot’s activities have truly helped them to structure their lives, develop life skills, shed violent behavior, and increase motivation to study and excel.

Development Programs: Through the Field: Mifalot’s flagship program which uses football to encourage moral, social, and educational values, as well as maintaining a healthy lifestyle.Around the ball: Basic skills acquisition for young children through football.Sports Leadership: Encourages community involvement and activism among youth through football.ODT (OutDoor Training): Uses outdoor and team-building activities to encourage moral, social, and educational values, as well as maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

“Each session I see the boys improve: they become less aggressive and more collaborative. The school principle tells me that the regular football practices help them in school.”

Our Mutual Goal: Peace and CoexistenceThrough our “Know Your Neighbor” programs we break down stereotypes and build trust – both on and off the field – between different groups within Israel and also between Israelis, Palestinians and Jordanians.

Through Sport Mifalot: Fosters a culture of peace and coexistence among all citizens of Israel and between Israelis, Palestinians and Jordanians.Bridges social, religious and ethnic divides. Football is an international language that is loved by everyone, irrespective of nationality, religion, race or gender.Gives opposing sides the opportunity to play, interact and work together as a team, not against each other.

Special Needs Programs:Game of Life: Development of social skills and behavioral norms in children, youth and adults with special needs through all sorts of ball games.Tie/Win: Children, youth and adults with special needs and non-special needs play together as teammates – a process that builds understanding, friendship and empathy.

Female Empowerment – Girls Kick the Ball!Girls and women are often excluded, for various reasons, from sports activities. At Mifalot, we try to break through the social stigma that excludes females; we believe sport is a powerful tool for female empowerment.

Through sports, females become more confident in their abilities and, as a result, more powerful members of society.Sport is a tool to strengthen self-esteem, body image, and self-efficacy among girls. Our participants receive guidance and training to become future leaders.

Female Empowerment Programs:Through the Field: Our flagship football program adopted to fit the needs of females as active leaders in society.Beyond the Net: Bringing more females into Mifalot’s activities by offering catch ball, a sport based on volleyball and is sometimes more attractive to girls than football.

Employability – Ensuring the FutureMifalot understands that a vibrant society requires engagement with all sectors.Mifalot uniquely utilizes sports as a platform to integrate peripheral communities into the job market. We are especially proud of our civil service program for young adults who are not recruited for army service. Mifalot provides them extensive training and volunteering opportunities in their home communities.

Employability Programs:Civil service: This project promotes equality in Israeli society. The civil service program is a Mifalot initiative created in 2009 and designed for full-time young adult volunteers not recruited for service in the IDF, including Arab Israelis, ultra-Orthodox, and Jewish young adults at risk.Secured Future for Youth at Risk: This project provides a safe and empowering place for youth at risk to learn employability skills such as responsibility, team-work, and communication. Thus, fostering self-confidence as they begin to believe in themselves and their own abilities. Beneficiaries leave the program with a state-certified permit allowing them to work as guides, coaches, and counselors – a huge accomplishment and confidence booster.Professional sports courses: Mifalot offers a range of programs aimed at training coaches and volunteers to become new and ever-improving sports coaches. Instruction varies in level and content – courses offered include football, catch ball, and general sports instruction.
