n  Elective/CHOICE/Skinny classes Fine Arts, STEM, Career Technical Education

Core/Mandatory Classes n  Language Arts 7 n Math n  Science n  Contemp. Global Studies n Music Tech, Art, FCS/Health, P.E. n Reading 7, STEM 7, Career Ready, and Computer Science 1

Choice Classes n  Fine Arts: 7th Grade Band, Chorus 7 (Two Semesters) Guitar 1, Piano 1, Guitar 2, Piano 2 (One Semester each) n  STEM: Next Generation STEM, Design1 (One semester each) n  Career Tech. Education (CTE): Clothing Construction (One Semester)

Course Registration n  March 26/27- Course Registration sheets will be

handed out and explained to incoming 7th graders. n  April 16th - Parent/Student Middle School

Orientation Night. n  April 16th-17th - Parents and students should

choose and finalize elective classes. n  Return registration sheets by Wednesday, April

18th to your 6th grade teacher/Homeroom. n  Students will register in class on April 18th!

Extra-Curricular Activities

n Winter School Play n Student Council n Athletics

n  Fall- Cross Country, Volleyball, & Football, Cheerleading

n  Nov/Dec. - Wrestling & Girls Basketball, Cheerleading n  Jan/Feb. - Boys Basketball, Cheerleading n  Spring/Summer – Track and Softball

How is Middle School Different? n Hallway Locker with a Combination n  Change classes and teachers during the day n  Change clothes for Physical Education and

have a gym locker with a combination lock n  Carry laptop to each class. Can take home. n New Types of Classes n More Independence for Students n More Responsibility for Students

Laptop Computer Expectationsn  Students carry computer from class to class n  Students may take laptop home at night n MUST always carry in zipped laptop case n  Keep in locked locker when not carrying it or

taking it home n  Fully charge laptop every night n  Do NOT take into locker rooms or to sporting

events n  Leave name tags on computer bags

Electronic Device Expectationsn  Personal Electronic Devices include cell phones,

iPod Touch, MP3 Players, handheld gaming devices, etc.

n  Powered off & out of sight between 8:00-3:00 n  If problems occur, the student handbook is

enforced.

Preparing for Middle School n You will receive your class schedule and

locker combination via Infinite Campus (August 6th).

n Rewrite your schedule in an easy to read format.

n  Practice finding your way to your classrooms.

n  Practice opening your locker and memorize your combination.

n  Put your school supplies in your locker BEFORE the first day of school.

n  Tues. August 21st, MS Open House 6-7pm

Preparing for Middle School n  Designate a study space at home. n  Set a regular homework time each day. n Homework is an important part of Middle School.

n  Continuation of Learning n  Necessary to Successfully Master Skills & Knowledge n  Develops Personal Responsibility n  Leads to Successful Transition into High School years n  Fact of Life

Family and School Partnership n  Fall & Winter Parent-Teacher Conferences n  Teachers have a daily planning time

n  Phone calls, e-mails, meetings n  Infinite Campus – parent portal *****

n  Grades, Assignments, & Attendance n  Updated weekly

The First Week of School The first week is designed to help your child adjust to

CDMS. n  Help with Schedules, Lockers, Extra time between

classes n  Introduction to seventh grade teachers n  Tour the building (Aug. 21-24, 8am-3pm) n  Review Policies and Procedures for the school and

classes. Each student will be given a copy to share with his/her parent(s).
