The legendary Tassie Tiger! Mintage just 5,000! the hunt is on!

The ideal subject for the Perth Mint’s world-renowned full-colour minting techniques, this impressive new precious metal Proof forms a breathtaking tribute to one of Australia’s most distinctive, most mysterious, most famous animals – the Tasmanian Tiger.

Distinguished by a tiger-like striped coat, wolf-like head and wombat-like backwards-facing pouch, the Thylacinus cynocephalus (Tasmanian Tiger) is among the most intriguing elements of Australia’s great variety of exotic native fauna. Rivalling in reputation such wonders of nature as the platypus, kangaroo and koala, this unusual creature once thrived on the Australian mainland, but by the time of European Settlement, was found in significant numbers only in Tasmania. Hunting, disease and habitat-destruction all had a major impact on the Tassie Tiger population, and, despite efforts to save the species in the early 20th century, the last known thylacine died in the Hobart Zoo in 1936.

The source of constant fascination in the three-quarters of a century since – with a large number of unconfirmed sightings of this legendary Aussie creature ensuring huge publicity – the highly distinctive appearance of the Tasmanian Tiger has been perfectly captured by the Perth Mint upon this stunning new legal tender coin. Struck to the apex of Proof quality from pure .999 silver, and then superbly enhanced with full-colour, there is no doubt that the 2011 $1 Tasmanian Tiger 1oz Silver Proof will provoke great interest worldwide. Indeed, with demand for full-colour Aussie animal coins from the Perth Mint at unprecedented levels, there is every reason to believe that the limited mintage of just 5,000 will sell out at super speed.

Britain’s short-lived Jubilee half sovereign…a Must-haVe in stunning aunC quaLitY!

A wonderful opportunity for the serious gold coin collector, the

1887-93 Jubilee Half Sovereign was specifically created to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the long reign of Queen Victoria. Distinguished by what is arguably the most distinctive portrait of Queen Victoria on the obverse – the famous Jubilee portrait by Sir Joseph Edgar Boehm – this highly desirable 22-carat gold coin is also defined by the armorial magnificence of Britain’s famous Shield design on the reverse.

As with Australian half sovereigns, this type was struck in very small numbers compared to its full

The perfect partner for the Jubilee Half Sovereign, we also have a small number of the original Queen Victoria Half Sovereign type available – in similarly superb quality! Graced with the Young Head portrait of the long-reigning monarch, united with the magnificent Shield design, each 22-carat gold coin is in Extremely Fine.

scarce in this grade

Before the 1887-93 Jubilee Sovereign Series – introduced when the Queen was in her late 60s – the only obverse used on British sovereigns struck during Victoria’s reign portrayed the Queen as she was when she took the throne in 1837 at the tender age of 18.

United with the Shield reverse – the only reverse motif employed on Queen Victoria British Sovereigns from the beginning of her reign until the 1870s – the Young Head portrait was created by famous Royal Mint designer, William Wyon. A truly great work of numismatic portraiture, the first Queen Victoria obverse type looks particularly fetching when found in high grade – as presented here.

Part of the hoard we recently secured from the UK, and rare in the upper echelons of quality, we have British 1850s Young Head Sovereigns available in both strictly

Uncirculated and superb Extremely Fine condition – dates of our choice – as well as the 1869 Young Head Sovereign in Extremely Fine. Limited stocks available!

Defined by the laureate head obverse portrait and St George reverse, the first sovereign type of King George IV (1820-30) is highly prized – especially in scarce Very Fine condition. Dates of our choice.

As scarce and desirable as the Type I, the George IV sovereign Type II features the bareheaded portrait of

the king, united with the Shield reverse. Issued from 1825 to 1830 – dates of our choice – each coin is

in premium grade gVF.

One of few gold coin types issued during the brief reign of William IV (1830-37), and struck only from 1831 to 1837, we rarely have the chance to offer this key British sovereign in premium grade VF condition. Dates of our choice.

Struck at the Royal Mint in London only from 1887 to 1893, the British Jubilee Half Sovereign is an important, short-lived element of Commonwealth numismatics.

Rarely offered in Australia, especially in the exquisite state of preservation seen here, we are delighted to have secured a small hoard of this sought after gold coin type from

the north of England – with each coin in sparkling about Uncirculated condition!

1866 – rare in superior quality…

1870 – the last sydney Mint sovereign…

That we have the opportunity to offer the 1866 dated Sydney Mint Sovereign in such high grade is particularly notable. Whilst extremely small by any standards, the mintage of the 1866 date is the highest of the 1855-70 Sydney Mint Sovereign Series, with 2.911m coins struck. Importantly, that does not mean that this date is readily available in good grade today. Indeed, the opposite is true, with the 1866 Sydney Mint Sovereign notoriously tough-to-find in the upper echelons of quality.

An irresistible opportunity for any serious Australian coin collector, we are delighted to be able to present the 1866 Sydney Mint Sovereign in truly outstanding quality. Conservatively graded at good Extremely Fine, we rarely have the chance to offer this crucial Gold Rush type in such a dazzling state of preservation.

Interestingly, the rarity of the 1866 Sydney Mint Sovereign, and all subsequent dates in the series, is because it was in this year that this highly distinctive colonial sovereign became legal tender in Britain. Transforming the Sydney Mint Sovereign from Australian circulating currency to international commodity, with a huge number of coins shipped overseas, this change in status explains the larger mintage, and also the difficulty in finding this date in top condition.

Underpinned by sharp edges, detailed designs, smooth fields and minimal wear to the ‘high points’ – as seen in the images at left – the 1866 Sydney Mint Sovereign is a must-have when found in stunning gEF condition, as here.

A feature of the obverse most prone to wear, known as a ‘high point’, the Queen’s braid of hair is practically unblemished on this outstanding Sydney Mint Sovereign

A recognised high point, the

Banksia laurel upon the Queen’s head shows virtually no sign of the deterioration naturally sustained during general circulation

Struck from 1855 to 1870, the Sydney Mint Sovereign is the only sovereign type bearing designs different than standard British coins. An attempt to distinguish Sydney coins from Imperial issues, they were intended to be legal tender in New South Wales only. Before long, they were gladly accepted as far afield as England, India and Newfoundland, with international demand for the later dates in the series heightened by the declaration of legal tender status in Britain in 1866.

Ironically, it was the great popularity of the Sydney Mint Sovereign that proved its downfall, as British authorities were shocked to find it was actually preferred to those sovereigns struck at the Royal Mint! Marking the end of an era, with the Royal Mint directing the Sydney Mint to use standard designs from 1871, the ‘last issue’ status of the 1870 Sydney Mint Sovereign has ensured it is among the most collected Australian sovereigns.

A tremendously beautiful, distinctively Australian Gold

Rush coin, the 1870 Sydney Mint Sovereign in superior grade will lift a collection to a new level. A coin underpinned by fascinating history and unique beauty, we have just a few examples of this key ‘last issue’ date in stock – in gEF-aUnc condition.

Gold Rush history you can hold in your hands, struck at the first overseas branch of the Royal Mint, the 1870 Sydney Mint Sovereign is one of Australia’s most important types. The very final issue of Australia’s first, and most distinctive, sovereign series, this key date is hotly pursued – particularly when found in the rarely seen superior grade presented here.

Issued to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Australia’s first national coinage system, and distinguished by an unprecedented mintmark, this unique type will soon vanish from the market – just like its predecessors in this highly desirable series. The tiny mintage and instant rarity of this superbly struck 11.66g .999 fine silver Proof is the natural consequence of the RAM’s radical ‘meltdown policy’. Every coin not sold or allocated to dealers attending the Perth, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney ANDA Shows has been melted down, with remarkably tiny

A major highlight of one of the world’s biggest numismatic festivals, this unique release represents the RAM’s first ever official USA Show Mint Set. Naturally comprising the six standard Australian denominations from the 5c to $2 – with every coin struck to the Mint’s rigorous BU standards – this official issue is distinguished by a special Show edition outer sleeve! More than just an overprint, or a sticker, the decision to radically differentiate between this special limited edition Mint Set and the standard Mint Set with a special sleeve naturally proved extremely popular with collectors. Although a vast majority of sets from the limited edition of 2,500 were sold at the Show, our attendance at this numismatic spectacular meant we were able to secure a small number on behalf of

our clients – most of which were snapped up when offered earlier this month.

With Australian Show Mint Sets proving hot property over the years – with the 1991 Singapore Show Mint Set (issued A$12.75, trades at A$95), and 2006 Canberra ANDA Show and Berlin World’s Money Fair Mint Sets (issued A$25, trade at A$90 apiece) illustrating the point – don’t miss the chance to secure this new set at such an affordable price! Time is of the essence!

A sensational opportunity to add one of the Royal Australian Mint’s most exclusive Mint Set issues to your collection, we still have the 2010 Boston World’s Fair of Money Mint Set available – but not for long!

As noted at left, this minuscule mintage is the result of the RAM’s ‘meltdown policy’. As with its predecessors, the 2010 $1 Sydney ANDA Show 1oz Silver Proof has now sold out at the Mint!

to the ‘Garden State’, and a must-have for Victorians, this 40.60mm .999 silver coin has also naturally been targeted by those keen to assemble

the complete Show Series. With a limited number in stock, we, like the Mint, will soon be completely sold out.

Set in an official case in an ANDA Show outer box with a Certificate of Authenticity, as with its

successors, we have just a few coins available. With all Australian Show products vanishing from

Australia BU Series. With no ANDA Show to take place in the Northern Territory this year, the Mint decided to take a bit of the Aussie Outback to the States, and release the set in Boston.

An inspired move on the part of Australia’s precious metal specialists, with the Outback

one of Australia’s most internationally recognised features, demand at the Show for this coin was predictably strong. A vast majority of the mintage will never be seen on Australian shores as a result, but, providing a strong Aussie presence at what is undoubtedly one of the world’s most important numismatic festivals, we were on hand to secure an allocation on behalf of our clients.

australia’s first Official horse race! just 5,000 stRuCK – the RaCe is on!

Struck by Australia’s own Perth Mint, this outstanding precious metal Proof forms a scintillating celebration of the bicentenary of a truly decisive moment in early Australian history – the first official horse race meeting held

upon our shores.

One of many crucial advances made during

the time of Australia’s fifth Governor, Lachlan Macquarie

(1810-21), Australia’s first official race meeting began at Sydney’s Hyde Park on the 15th of October 1810. Partly inspired by Macquarie’s desire to integrate the divided colonial population, the meeting drew huge crowds, with the vitality and colour of the event captured upon the 40.60mm frame of the 2010 $1 First Official Australian Horse Race Bicentenary 1oz Silver Proof. Struck to the highest standards of the Perth Mint, and beautifully embellished with full-colour, the design depicts the victory of Captain Ritchie’s 6-year-old grey gelding ‘Chase’ in the first official Australian horse race, held on the first day of the 3-day meeting.

A release of immensely broad appeal, this unique .999 fine silver coin has naturally caught the eye of racing devotee and collector alike – as well as those interested in Australia’s early colonial heritage. With just 5,000 struck, and demand for Perth Mint-struck coins celebrating Australia and its icons always very strong, do not miss the chance to guarantee supply of this inspiring legal tender issue at the Official Issue Price!

Indeed, due to the extreme rarity of some issues, we have not been able to offer the complete 1966-2010 Proof Set Series for THREE years – making this rare opportunity very, very important.

The qualiTy…For many centuries, Proof coins have been created as showpieces of a Mint’s skill. In Australia during the predecimal period, the Sydney, Perth and Melbourne Mints created a fine tradition of Proof quality coinage – a tradition maintained in the decimal era by the Royal Australian Mint in Canberra. From the 1966 1c to the 2010 $2, every coin in every Proof Set has been struck to the highest possible standards of the RAM, and literally shines with quality. Considered to be the pinnacle of the art of numismatics, these are the finest coins money can buy.

Eagerly anticipated, the annual Proof Set release is unquestionably a highpoint on the collector calendar – not only in Australia, but right around the globe. The worldwide popularity of Australian Proof Sets, and in some cases extremely low mintages, has ensured that many sets are difficult to locate today. The early dates in the program are particularly notorious for their scarcity, with some sets issued in mintages as low as 10,000! With scarcity comes potential, and it is no surprise that a great number of the Proof Sets issued from 1966 to 2010 have soared in secondary market value.

The POTenTial…As new enthusiasts are drawn to the series, more pressure is placed upon the limited number of Proof Sets available today, with an increase in market value the natural consequence of the heightened competition. This is especially the case with the early years of this illustrious RAM collector program. The very first set, issued at the dawn of the decimal era in 1966, is now valued at nearly A$500, with the 1969 set (valued at A$350), 1971 & 1972 sets (valued at A$250 apiece) and 1973 set (valued at A$275) all indicative of the scarcity and potential of the early Proof Set issues.

This trend is not limited to the initial decimal Proof Set issues, however, with even recent releases regularly soaring way above Official Issue Price. The 2000 Proof Set, for example, was issued at A$64.95, and now trades at A$350, with the 1999 set (valued at A$195) and 2001 set (valued at A$220) illustrating the potential of the series.

australia’s Premier silver series…A distinctively Australian reflection of the places, people and pastimes that form the foundation of this great nation, the Masterpieces in Silver Series is the RAM’s premier annual silver release. Following the launch of the 2010 Masterpieces in Silver, we have been bombarded with requests for previous issues and are delighted to present this fine selection.

The first in the series…

intricately detailed…

The first of the series, the 1988 Masterpieces was incredibly popular upon release – and has remained a favourite ever since. Featuring the 50c, $1, $2 and $5 Bicentennial commemoratives – the only place you will find the $5 coin in silver – this sumptuous sterling silver set (mintage 24,970) is housed in a RAM case with a Certificate of Authenticity.

Housed in a RAM case with a booklet incorporating a Certificate, the 1999 Masterpieces comprises .999 silver Proof recreations of six of Australia’s highest profile rarities – including the 1930 Penny! The inclusion of the King of Coins in silver Proof set the market alight, and the mintage of 15,000 sold out rapidly. Seldom seen on the market today.

Among the most sought after issues of this long-running series, the 1989 Masterpieces Set is headlined by Australia’s first five commemorative 50c coins – in stunning sterling silver Proof! From the 1970 Cook to the 1988 Bicentennial 50c…all are included! With a mintage of 25,000, each collection is set in a case with a silver Plaque of Authenticity.

An exquisite tribute to Australian numismatic portraiture, the 5-coin 2000 Masterpieces portrays each of the five monarchs depicted upon coins struck in Australia – from Victoria to Elizabeth II. Set in a case with a booklet incorporating a Certificate of Authenticity, this exclusive .999 silver set (mintage 15,000) also features a .999 silver plaque.

Commemorating the 25th anniversary of decimalisation, the 1991 Masterpieces draws together every coin design issued for the year – the last in which 8 Australian denominations were struck before the 1c and 2c were demonetised. A fine memento of a key landmark in Australian numismatic history, each sterling silver set (1c-$2) is housed in a case with a numbered silver ingot.

A rich exploration of Australia’s numismatic history, this stunning .999 fine silver set forms a unique, high-quality tribute to the 150th anniversary of the 1850s Port Phillip Gold Patterns. Uniting four intricately detailed, utterly faithful recreations of these important Gold Rush issues, the 2003 Masterpieces is set in a RAM case with a Certificate. Tiny mintage just 7,489!

Turning 50?A comprehensive appreciation of Australia’s first national coinage – struck at the Royal Mint in London 100 years ago – the 1910 Edward VII Year Set is scarce, important, and yet surprisingly affordable. Housed in an informative pack, the set includes average circulated examples of the 1910 sterling silver 3d, 6d, 1/- and 2/- – the only Australian coins to bear the portrait of Edward.

An ideal way to celebrate an important milestone in the past, the RAM’s 2000 Mint Set is definitely one to pop away for the future. One of the most sought after, highest cataloguing Mint Sets, this highly desirable Millennium keepsake has jumped sixfold in value since issue! Highlighted by the Millennium 50c among its six coins (5c-$2), and rarely seen on the market, we have just eight in stock.

A major milestone in the 1966-2010 Mint Set Series, the RAM’s 2010 Mint Set represents only the second time in 20 years that this key annual issue has been highlighted by Australia’s traditional decimal designs. Absolutely superb when struck to the RAM’s rigorous BU quality, Stuart Devlin’s original 5c, 10c, 20c, 50c and $1 and Horst Hahne’s $2 are united within an official RAM pack.

Whilst an unparalleled way to mark an 80th anniversary or birthday, the 1930 King George V Year Set also represents a tremendously rare opportunity for the collector or investor to secure Australia’s most famous coin – the legendary 1930 Penny.

Know someone who is? Well, whether for yourself or as a present for another, the 1960 Elizabeth II Year Set will help you celebrate a 50th birthday in style. Housed in an informative, ‘ready-to-wrap’ pack, each set includes the Perth Mint’s 1/2d and 1d, united with the Melbourne Mint’s 3d, 6d, 1/- and 2/- – with all six coins in this affordable collection graded Very Fine.

With no silver coins issued in 1930 due to the economic trauma of the Great Depression, this highly desirable set comprises the King of Coins, the 1930 Penny (mintage approx

3,000) united with the low-mintage 1930 Halfpenny (just 638,000 struck) – both in Fine. Beautifully presented within an informative, attractive Mint Set style pack, as with each collection on

this page, you must act immediately. Due to the extreme rarity of the 1930 Penny, we have just a few sets available.

A coin of rich symbolism, eye-catching beauty and inspiring originality, this memorable legal tender issue honours one of the most fundamental symbols of Maori culture – the Heitiki. Traditionally worn around the neck by Maoris of high rank, and handed down the generations in a bestowal of authority, status and power, the Heitiki is usually carved from pounamu – New Zealand greenstone.

A perfect recreation of the distinctive green hues of this ancient Maori symbol, the Heitiki is brilliantly portrayed upon the 40mm flan of this .999 silver coin. A stylish presentation, and a fantastic gift idea, each Silver Proof is set in a handmade waka huia (treasure box) and is complete with an authentication booklet confirming the tiny mintage of just 4,000.

A unique, officially approved memento of one of the world’s largest sporting events, this new Silver Proof crown is an official legal tender issue of New Zealand – the host of the RWC 2011. To be held in September and October next year, rugby union’s most prestigious, most fiercely contested competition will be closely followed across the globe. Twenty nations will battle to be the world champion, and hold aloft the

Webb Ellis Cup – the official RWC 2011 Trophy so brilliantly depicted upon this eye-catching new precious metal proof.

Struck from an ounce of .999 silver to High Relief quality, and superbly embellished with pure .999 gold, the broad 40mm diameter flan of this sparkling Proof coin is dominated by an extraordinarily detailed portrayal of Rugby Union’s most famous prize. Imparting a

powerful 3D effect to the depiction of the Webb Ellis Cup, the special standard of strike is complemented beautifully by the

precise application of the world’s favourite precious metal.

A fine piece of numismatic craftsmanship, sure to catch the eye of collectors worldwide, the RWC 2011 Webb Ellis Cup coin is naturally a must-have for fans of ‘The Game They Play in Heaven’. Recognising that international demand is bound to be extremely strong, given the global nature of the event, New Zealand has set the limited edition at 12,000 coins – each presented within an individually numbered timber case and complete with a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
