Creating a Table of Contents

Generally, 2 ways: Using Outline Levels Using Table Entry Fields

Either method requires: Selecting the text to use in the TOC Inserting the TOC into the document

TOC – Outline Levels Method

1. Go to View > Toolbars and turn on Outlining toolbar.

2. Select the text to use as a heading in the TOC

3. Assign text to a level• Level 1 = topmost level

4. Repeat for each heading

4. Position cursor at insertion point in document

5. Go to Insert > Reference > Index and Tables

6. Click OK to use default styles.

1. Alt+Shift+O to bring up Table of Contents Entry box

2. Double click the text to use as a heading in the TOC

3. Assign text to a level Level 1 = topmost level

4. Repeat for each heading

Example 1: Table of Contents

Using lec2_report.doc, insert a table of

contents meeting these requirements:

Should be inserted after the title and before the introduction.

Should contain 4 first-level headings Methods and Procedures section should contain

4 second-level headings.

Inserting Comments

a. With the cursor, either highlight the text, or place the cursor after the text you wish to comment on

b. Click the Comment button (6)

c. Type comment in the red bubble that appears next to the text

Example 2: Insert/Remove a Comment

Using lec2_report.doc,

1. Insert a comment after the first bullet in the Introduction.

2. Remove the comment.

Refers to the rules and conventions established by the American Psychological Association for documenting sources used in a research paper

Must follow this style when referencing in the text and in the Bibliography section

c. Works by Three to Five Authors

d. Works by Six or More Authors

i. Use the first author’s name followed by “et al.” for all citations.
