Please support your local Samaritan Branch South West Herts Samaritans is an independent charity that supports people who are troubled, despairing or suicidal in the whole of the South West Herts area, and sometimes beyond. Whilst we are affiliated with the National Samaritans Charity, we must raise about £30,000 per year through our own efforts to keep the service going in this community.

Here are some facts about our work. From our centre in St John’s Road Watford, around 100 volunteers provide

a free telephone, email, personal visitor and outreach service to an area with a population of more than 600,000 people.

It costs about £80 per day to keep our centre operating even though we have no paid staff.

Last year our branch received over 25,000 telephone calls, 70 plus visitors and answered over 3000 emails and nearly 2000 SMS texts from people who have no one else to confide in, secure in the knowledge that what they say will not go any further than Samaritans.

As a national movement, we are available 24/7 and SW Herts Samaritans provides more than its share of that support.

Quite simply, for many people our emotional support service is their lifeline. Samaritans are always there at the end of the line.
