te• Winters, this year witnessed Microsoft’s major update on
Windows 10, affectionately called the Anniversary Update.
• It will be free for anyone currently Windows 10, and usersin the Windows Insider program can download the newbuilds and try them out today.
• The Anniversary update includes a ton of improvements andnew features, which we’ll go through one by one.
Windows10
• Windows 10 has been a smashing success, since its release. There arenow 270 million devices running the new operating system.
• Microsoft showed off an update to the OS called Windows 10Anniversary Update, which will come with 1,000 new features.
• Windows Hello, a feature in Windows 10 that lets you log into yourcomputer with your face or fingerprint, will be a part of the MicrosoftEdge web browser.
• Developers will be able to build Hello support into their apps andwebsites, letting users ditch passwords on devices with the righthardware.
• Windows 10 is getting the Bash shell, a Linux command line.
WindowsInk
• Build 2016 came with Windows Ink's powerful new features for Surfacetablets.
• Windows Ink will launch as part of the Windows 10 AnniversaryUpdate this summer.
• One of the most interesting is a virtual ruler that users can rotate andmove around freely to make drawing on-screen easier.
• Users can use auto-alignment and adjustment tools to make everythingfrom highlighting text to drawing charts fall into place neatly and tidily.
• Microsoft has already added support for this tool to several appsincluding Office, but developers can add it to their own apps with just acouple of lines of code.
UniversalWindowsApps
• Facebook's going to release new universal versions of itsFacebook, Messenger and Instagram apps for Windows 10.
• Since they're universal, developers will only have to build oneversion of the app and it'll work across all devices (PCs,tablets, and smartphones).
Cortana
• Cortana is also getting smarter, integrating everything it knowsabout you across all of Microsoft’s products.
• It'll work on the lock screen, will have tighter integration withthe Outlook and calendar apps and automatically submitexpenses it recognizes within emails, to name a few.
• Skype is also getting Cortana support, letting you do morethings, like book a trip, through third-party bot integration.

XboxOne
• Microsoft announced that it will unify the Windows Store with theapp store on Xbox One.
• Users can flip a simple switch to turn their Xbox One into a dev kit,and developers can use this to optimize their apps to play on XboxOne. This applies to not just games, but any universal Windows app
• With Windows 10, you'll be able to stream Xbox One games directlyto a PC.
• You'll also get cross-platform support for services like Steam, whichwill let users Xbox users chat with PC users.
HoloLens
• Pamela Davis, the dean for Case Western University's school ofmedicine showed off how medical students can use HoloLens toexamine and learn about the human anatomy.
• Skype is also coming to HoloLens. Skype won't projectholographic versions of your body; but it'll just be a screenfloating in front of the user.
• HoloLens ships to developers starting on Wednesday. Thedeveloper kits, as previously announced, cost $3,000.
